Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent failure in the commutation of a thyristor by reducing current flowing through thyristors and the transformers through shunting of the current of the motor with a shunting resistance connected to the thyrister bridge when the overlapping angle of the commutation exceeds a given value.
CONSTITUTION: DC current is fed to a main motor M from a transformer MT through a thyristor bridge MRf. To a field coil MF, a control current is fed from a field braking rectifier circuit BRf. A detector AD detects the overlapping angle of commutation. When the detection signal exceeds a given level, with a command from a switch controller SC, a change over switch S1 is closed, allowing a shunting resistor SR to be inserted into the thyristor bridge MRf in paralle. The commutation of partial motor current reduces the current flowing through the thyristors and the main transformer MT thereby preventing the failure in the commutation of the thyristor.
