Abstract

PURPOSE: To breed microbes on a filter and maintain their activity even if the temperature of the atmosphere falls, by keeping constant the temperature of waste water near the filter through a heater.
CONSTITUTION: To keep the temperature of the waste water constant in an immersed filter bed vessel 3, a temperature detecting end 14 is provided near the filter 4 and connected to a temperature controller 12. The heater 8 is provided in the lower part of the vessel 3 and connected to a control valve 13 (switch in an electrical case) which controls a heating medium 7 aupplied to the heater 8. The control valve 13 is connected to the temperature controller 12. The temperature of the waste water detected by the temperature detecting end near the filter 4 is applied to the controller 12. The controller 12 operates the valve 13 to regulate the quantity of the heating medium 7 supplied to the heater 8. Thereby, the temperature of the water in the immersed filter bed vessel is kept constant and the adverse effect of water temperature drop on the activity of the microbes is prevented.
