Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to heat water in a hot water tank efficiently by a method wherein a daily target heating temperature is determined on the bases of the temperature of residual hot water and the temperature of the water in the tank and the heating of the water in the tank is controlled on the base of the target heating temperature. CONSTITUTION:A hot water temperature sensor 5 for detecting the temperature of the hot water standing in the upper part of the tank 1 and a water temperature sensor 6 for detecting the temperature of water standing in the lower part of the tank are provided within the tank and the titled control device 7 comprising a mode setting device 8 and lowest hot water temperature setting devices 9 and 10 is provided adjacent the tank 1. With the above arrangement, the outputs of the hot water temperature sensor 5 and the water temperature sensor 6 are operated by the mode setting device 8 and the lowest hot water temperature setting devices 9 and 10 and the target heating temperature of the preceding day is corrected to determine the day's target heating temperature so that the heating of water in the tank 1 is controlled on the base of the day's target heating temperature. Accordingly, it is possible to heat the water in the tank 1 to a temperature suitable for the conditions of its use and to operate the water heater in an efficient manner.
