Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform a stable active sludge treatment by using an automatic oxidation-reduction potential controller to maintain the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) in an aeration tank at the optimum value by automatically controlling the amount of air to be supplied into the aeration tank and the amount of raw water (BOD quantity).
CONSTITUTION: When active sludge is in a level of normal activity, the ORP in the aeration tank 1 is detected by the combined electrodes 6. When the ORP value is at the reduction side, the automatic ORP controller 5 instructs the damper 9 to be opened to increase the aeration, allowing a shift to be made toward a high ORP value. When the ORP value approaches the set value, the damper 9 is being closed to decrease the aeration by means of the proportional control on the ORP value. When the ORP value exceeds the set value by about +50mV, the ORP controller 5 directs the water pump 8 to increase the original water supply by about 5W10% so that the set value is resumed.
