Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain microcapsules with different breaking strengths over a wide range by covering an aq. liquid filler with envelopes made of high MW crystalline 1, 2-polybutadiene of syndiotactic structure (stereoregular structure). CONSTITUTION:An aq. liquid filler is contacted to a sprayed soln. of the above high MW crystalline 1,2-polybutadiene in a solvent such as cyclohexane. The filler may be, e.g. particles obtd. by gelling EG with very finely divided anhydrous silica and freeze pulverizing the gel at low temp. The contacted particles are then irradiated with light of wavelengths below 370 nm from a low voltage mercury lamp, etc. for a predetermined time to obtain desired microcapsules. The MW of the polybutadiene is above 10000, and the degree of crystallinity 5-60, esp. 10-30%. Only by varying the radiation time of light of wavelengths below 370 nm, degree of deterioration of microcapsules is changed by hardening due to the radiation, and the breaking strength of a membrane produced can be controlled freely.
