Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture a high tensile steel with superior strength, toughness and hydrogen induced cracking resistance by reducing the C content of steel to enhance the hydrogen induced cracking resistance; adding Mn to offset a lowering in strength; and carrying out specific heat treatment to lower the hydrogen induced cracking sensibility.
CONSTITUTION: An ultra low carbon steel contg. C; 0.001W0.01%, Si<0.5%, Mn; 2W4%, sol. Al<0.10%, Ca; 0.0005W0.01% and/or Ce; 0.0005W0.02% and impurity S<0.002%. The steel may further contain one or more out if Cu; 0.2W0.5%, Cr; 0.1W1.0%, Ni; 0.05W0.60%, Mo; 0.05W0.50%, Nb; 0.01W0.10% and V; 0.02W0.10%. This steel is heated at the Ac3 pointW1150°C to be austenitized, and then it is hot rolled at a reduction ratio above 60% at below 850°C to make the grains fine. Tempering temp. is regulated to 550°Wthe Ac1 point, thus obtaining a high tensile steel with superior hydrogen induced cracking resistance.
