Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate oil from water by mechanical operation,by addn. of chips of fibrous material such as large-sized sawdust as a separation aid to the liq. to be treated which forms emulsion consisting of water and oil (especially crude oil), then by filtering the mixture after stirring and pressurizing.
CONSTITUTION: Water to be treated which forms emulsion consisting of water and crude oil is delivered from a turbid layer E in an oil storage tank 1 though a withdrawing pipe 4 to a heating unit 7, where it is heated to about 60W75°C. then the emulsion is sent a mixer 14, where it is stirred with addn. of large-sized sawdust as a separation aid 15. Successively the sludgy mixture is sent by a screw conveyor 17 to a compression filter 16, where it is pressurized and compressed to 60kg/cm2 or above, nearly all of the emulsion being broken and dehydrated. The filtrate 18 is separated into crude oil and water by a floating oil-separator 11,and crude oil is returned through a pump 23 to the tank 1.
