Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the moldability and increase the space occupation factor by twisting three composite superconductor wires to obtain a composite superconductor wire unit, stranding such wire units such as to produce a space in the center of the section of the strand, and then removing the space by plastically deforming the strand into a flat form.
CONSTITUTION: Three composite superconductor are twisted together at a pitch of, for instance, 20 mm to form a superconductor unit 3. Six such superconductor units are stranded together at a pitch of 50 mm to form a space 1 in a central portion of the section of the strand. The strand is then plastically deformed with a roller with a groove or the like into such a flat form that the space 1 is practically removed. In this way, a flat superconductor strand having a high space occupation factor can be manufactured with highmolding process control property.
