Abstract

PURPOSE:As a molten iron desulfurizing agent to be used outside furnace, a mixture of soda ash and coke powder is prepared, the mixture being used in reducing desulfurizer atmosphere to enhance desulfurizing effect, and in oxygen blow smelting process to prevent oxidized consuption of Si heat source material. CONSTITUTION:Molten iron is desulfurized outside furnace using pouring ladel, etc., prior to oxygen blow smelting of iron to steel. In this process, as a desulfurizing agent, soda ash is used with coke powder, which is mixed into the soda ash in an amount such that the ratio of Na2CO3 in the ash to C in the coke should be 1/3 to 3. This mixture is blended with 5% of kerosine to be molded into pellet form of 10 to 50 mm diameter. When these pellets are used as desulfurizing agent, coke and Na2CO3 react to produce CO gas which is a reducing atmosphere to enhance desulfurizing efficiency. In addition, Si oxidation in molten iron is prevented to the effect that in steel converter oxygen blow smelting, Si heat source consumption is minimized.
