- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.近位端および遠位端を有し、第二の可撓性導管と同心的である第一の可撓 性導管と、該第一の可撓性導管が、冷却流体を該近位端から該遠位端に流れさせ 、該第二の可撓性導管が、近位端および遠位端を有し、該冷却流体を該遠位端か ら該近位端に流れさせることと、 該第一の可撓性導管の該遠位端と、該第二の可撓性導管の該遠位端とを接続す る沸騰室と、該沸騰室が該冷却流体を沸騰させて気体状にすることと、 を含む凍結カテーテルにおいて、 血管を損傷することなく、該血管に挿入され、その中に通されるのに十分に可 撓性かつ十分に細いものである凍結カテーテル。 2.該第一の可撓性導管が、室温での該冷却流体の蒸気圧を超え、かつ平方イ ンチあたり300ポンド未満の圧力で、該沸騰室への該冷却流体の送り出しを制 御するための流量制限区分を有する請求の範囲第1項記載の凍結カテーテル。 3.該第一の可撓性導管が、第一の内径を有する第一の部分と、該第一の内径 よりも小さな第二の内径を有する、該遠位端に隣接する第二の部分とを有し、該 第二の可撓性導管が、該近位端から該遠位端まで実質的に均一の内径を有してい る請求の範囲第1項記載の凍結カテーテル。 4.該第一の内径が0.18ミリメートルであり、該第二の内径が0.13ミ リメートルである請求の範囲第3項記載の凍結カテーテル。 5.該凍結カテーテルが長さ約1メートルであり、該第二の部分が長さ25セ ンチメートルである請求の範囲第4項記載の凍結カテーテル。 6.近位端および遠位端を有し、第二の導管と同心的であり、第一の内径を有 する第一の部分と、第二の内径を有する第二の部分とを有する第一の導管と、該 第二の部分が該遠位端に隣接し、該第二の内径が該第一の内径よりも小さく、該 第一の導管が、冷却流体を該近位端から該遠位端に流れさせ、該第二の導管が、 近位端および遠位端を有し、該冷却流体を該遠位端から該近位端に流れさせるこ とと、 該第一の導管の該遠位端と、該第二の導管の該遠位端とを接続する導電性沸騰 室と、該沸騰室が該冷却流体を沸騰させて気体状にすることと、 該沸騰室と導電的に接触した第一の電極ワイヤおよび該沸騰室から隔離された 第二の電極ワイヤと、 を含む凍結カテーテル。 7.該第二の電極ワイヤが、該第二の導管の一部を該沸騰室の一部に対して押 圧する請求の範囲第6項記載の凍結カテーテル。 8.該沸騰室の該部分が複数の環状うねを含む請求の範囲第7項記載の凍結カ テーテル。 9.該沸騰室に固着された操舵ワイヤをさらに含む請求の範囲第7項記載の凍 結カテーテル。 10.該沸騰室に固着され、該第一の操舵ワイヤから、該第二の導管の内径を 超えない距離だけ離れた第二の操舵ワイヤをさらに含む請求の範囲第9項記載の 凍結カテーテル。 11.該沸騰室が、該第一の可撓性導管の該遠位端と連通した第一の開口を画 定し、該沸騰室と該第二の可撓性導管の該遠位端との間に受動的な流量制限装置 を含む請求の範囲第2項記載の凍結カテーテル。 12.該第二の可撓性導管内のガス圧を所与の血圧よりも低い所定の水準に維 持するための流体制御装置をさらに含む請求の範囲第2項記載の凍結カテーテル 。 13.低い沸点を有する冷却流体の供給をさらに含む請求の範囲第12項記載 の凍結カテーテル。 14.該冷却流体がその液体状で毒性である請求の範囲第12項記載の凍結カ テーテル。 15.該冷却流体がその気体状で毒性である請求の範囲第12項記載の凍結カ テーテル。 16.該冷却流体がフレオンを含む請求の範囲第13項記載の凍結カテーテル 。 17.該冷却流体が、患者の心臓血管系中に放出されると、ヒトにとって有害 である請求の範囲第13項記載の凍結カテーテル。 18.近位端および遠位端を有し、第二の導管と同心的である第一の導管と、 該第一の導管が、冷却流体を該近位端から該遠位端に流れさせ、該第二の導管が 、近位端および遠位端を有し、該冷却流体を該遠位端から該近位端に流れさせ、 該第一の導管が、第一の内径を有する第一の部分と、第二の内径を有する第二の 部分とを有し、該第二の部分が該遠位端に隣接し、該第二の内径が該第一の内径 よりも小さいことと、 該第一の導管の該遠位端と、該第二の導管の該遠位端とを接続する沸騰室と、 該沸騰室が該冷却流体を沸騰させて気体状にし、該沸騰室が、導電性であり、さ らに、該沸騰室と導電的に接触した第一の電極ワイヤと、該沸騰室から電気的に 絶縁された第二の電極ワイヤとを含み、該第二の電極ワイヤが該第二の導管の一 部を該沸騰室の一部に対して押圧することと、 該沸騰室に固着された操舵ワイヤと、 を含む凍結カテーテル。 19.該沸騰室が、該第一の導管の該遠位端と連通した第一の開口を画定し、 該沸騰室と該第二の導管の該遠位端との間に受動的な流量制限装置を含む請求の 範囲第18項記載の凍結カテーテル。 20.該第二の導管内のガス圧を所与の血圧よりも低い所定の水準に維持する ための流体制御装置をさらに含む請求の範囲第19項記載の凍結カテーテル。 21.低い沸点を有する毒性の冷却流体の供給をさらに含む請求の範囲第18 項記載の凍結カテーテル。 22.近位端および遠位端を有し、第二の可撓性導管と同心的である第一の可 撓性導管と、該第一の可撓性導管が、冷却流体を該近位端から該遠位端に流れさ せ、該第二の可撓性導管が、近位端および遠位端を有し、該冷却流体を該遠位端 から該近位端に流れさせることと、 該第一の可撓性導管の該遠位端と、該第二の可拉性導管の該遠位端とを接続す る沸騰室と、該沸騰室が該冷却流体を沸騰させて気体状にすることと、 を含む凍結カテーテルを用意する段階と、 毒性の冷却流体を室温と体温との間の温度で該沸騰室に汲み込む段階と、 該第二の可撓性導管内のガス圧を所与の血圧よりも低い所定の水準に維持する 段階と、 を含む、心臓組織を冷却する方法。 23.近位端および遠位端を有し、第二の導管と同心的である第一の導管と、該 第一の導管が、冷却流体を該近位端から該遠位端に流れさせ、該第二の導管が、 近位端および遠位端を有し、該冷却流体を該遠位端から該近位端に流れさせるこ とと、 該第一の導管の該遠位端と、該第二の導管の該遠位端とを接続する導電性沸騰 室と、該沸騰室が該冷却流体を沸騰させて気体状にすることと、 該第一の導管が、室温での該冷却流体の蒸気圧を超え、かつ平方インチあたり 300ポンド未満の圧力で、該沸騰室への該冷却流体の送り出しを制御するため の流量制限区分を有することと、 該沸騰室と導電的に接触した第一の電極ワイヤと、 を含む凍結カテーテル。 24.該沸騰室から隔離された第二の電極ワイヤをさらに含む請求の範囲第23 項記載の凍結カテーテル。 25.該第二の電極ワイヤが、該第二の導管の一部を該沸騰室の一部に対して押 圧する請求の範囲第24項記載の凍結カテーテル。 26.該沸騰室の該部分が複数の環状うねを含む請求の範囲第25項記載の凍結 カテーテル。 27.該沸騰室に固着された操舵ワイヤをさらに含む請求の範囲第23項記載の 凍結カテーテル。 28.該沸騰室に固着され、該第一の操舵ワイヤから、該第二の導管の内径を超 えない距離だけ離れた第二の操舵ワイヤをさらに含む請求の範囲第27項記載の 凍結カテーテル。
