Abstract

(57)【要約】 【課題】 スイートエリヤの広い等のアイアン形ゴルフ
クラブヘッドを提供する。 【解決手段】 金属製のヘッド本体１のフェース４の後
面１Ａに複数の窪み５を形成する。前記窪み５は鍛造に
より形成される。鍛造により形成することにより、均質
かつ微細な組織、鍛流線が形成される。材料のじん性と
耐久性等を高め、フェース４の厚みＡを１．０乃至３．
５ｍｍに形成して薄肉化を図れ、重量分布を自由にでき
る。

Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、アイアンゴルフクラブ
ヘッド、サンドウェッジゴルフクラブヘッド、ピッチン
グゴルフクラブヘッド等の金属製のアイアン形ゴルフク
ラブヘッドに関する。
【０００２】
【発明が解決しようとする課題】従来この種のものとし
て、実開昭６０−１７７８６７号公報の第２図には、ヘ
ッドの後部に窪みを形成した窪み付きゴルフクラブが開
示されている。このゴルフクラブにおいては、従来滑ら
かに形成されていたヘッド本体の後部に窪みを多数形成
することによりゴルフクラブをスイングした際に、空気
抵抗を減少することができるというものである。また、
特開平２−２４１４６９号公報の図１には材料を切削し
て周面に小窪みを複数形成したウッド形のゴルフクラブ
ヘッドが開示されている。このウッド形のゴルフクラブ
ヘッドにおいては、前記小窪みにより、美観を高めるこ
とができるというものである。
【０００３】ところで、アイアン形ゴルフクラブヘッド
（ヘッドと称する）においては、スイートエリヤの拡大
を図るために、ヘッドの重心とフェースとの距離を長く
したり、またフェースの縁を厚くしてフェースの周囲に
重量を分散することが知られている。
【０００４】しかしながら、従来のヘッドにおいてはシ
ョット時における強度上フェースを所定の厚みにしなけ
ればならず、このためフェースの厚みに所定の重量が必
要であり、この結果ヘッドの形状を自由に形成できない
という問題があった。
【０００５】そこで、本発明は前記問題を解決してフェ
ースの薄肉化を図って、ヘッドの形状を自由に形成でき
るアイアン形ゴルフクラブヘッドを提供することを目的
とする。
【０００６】
【課題を解決するための手段】本発明のアイアン形ゴル
フクラブヘッドは、ー側にシャフト取付部を設け前面に
フェースを設けた金属製のゴルフクラブヘッド本体の前
記フェースの後面に複数の窪みを鍛造により形成してフ
ェースの強度を向上し、フェースの薄肉化に伴いその分
の重量を他の部位に配分してスイートエリヤ等の拡大を
図ることができるものである。
【０００７】また本発明は前記フェースの厚みを１．０
乃至３．５ｍｍに形成したものである。
【０００８】
【発明の実施態様】以下、本発明の第１実施例を図１乃
至図４を参照して説明する。金属製のヘッド本体１はー
側にシャフト２の取付部たるホーゼル３が突設し、前面
には打球面たるフェース４が形成されている。さらに、
ヘッド本体１の後面１Ａにおいては前記フェース４に対
応して複数の窪み５が千鳥状に比較的密に形成され、さ
らに後面１Ａの縁部には環状突起６が形成されている。
環状突起６の下部によりソール７が形成される。前記窪
み５は直径Ｘが３〜８ｍｍ、好ましくは５〜６ｍｍで、
深さＹが０．２〜１．７ｍｍ、好ましくは０．７〜１．
２ｍｍに形成されている。さらに隣接する窪み５の中心
間距離Ｚは３〜１０ｍｍ、好ましくは５〜７ｍｍであ
り、そして後述する平坦部９に前記窪み５が占める面積
の割合は７０％以上が好ましい。尚、８は前記フェース
４に形成したスコアラインと称せられる溝である。
【０００９】次に製造方法について説明する。例えばＪ
ＩＳ規格のＳ２０Ｃ，Ｓ２５Ｃ等の機械構造用炭素鋼材
等の鋼材やチタン、チタン合金、ベリリウム銅等の金属
を鍛造装置により熱間或いは冷間鍛造方法で、図４に示
すように前記フェース４、後面１Ａの環状突起６及び後
面１Ａの中央側に形成される平坦部９を形成しておく。
尚、鋼の場合は熱間鍛造方法により行いこの後焼なまし
する。次に、前記ヘッド本体１を鍛造装置の下型10に載
置し、一方上型11の下面には前記複数の窪み５を形成す
るための半球状の突部12が形成されている。そして前記
上型11を前記平坦部９に押圧して前記窪み５を冷間鍛造
により複数同時に形成する。また実施例では前記窪み５
を冷間鍛造により形成したが鋼等では熱間鍛造により形
成してよい。このように窪み５を形成した後に、前記溝
８を形成すると共に、表面を研磨等により磨いて製品と
するものである。
【００１０】以上のように、前記実施例ではヘッド本体
１の後面１Ａに複数の窪み５を鍛造により形成すること
により、フェース４の中央側の強度を向上し、このため
にこのフェース４の厚みＡを１．０乃至３．５ｍｍ程度
に薄くでき、その薄くできた分の重量を例えばソール７
に配分してその厚みＢを大きくしヘッド１の重心Ｇとフ
ェース４との距離を大きくしてスイートエリヤの拡大を
図ったり、また前記重量を環状突起６に配分してその厚
みＣを大きくしフェース４周囲の重量分布を大きくして
スイートエリヤの拡大を図ることができる。
【００１１】以下の表１の引張試験成績表には前記窪み
５と同様なものを形成した平板（資料番号３，４）と、
窪みを形成しない平板（資料番号１，２）の引張試験を
示している。また、表１の曲げ試験成績表には前記窪み
５と同様なものを形成した平板（資料番号２）と、窪み
を形成しない平板（資料番号１）の曲げ試験を示してい
る。

【００１３】表１の引張試験において、窪みを形成した
板材（資料番号３，４）の引張強さ平均は６４２．９Ｎ
／ｍｍ2 、窪みを形成しない板材（資料番号１，２）の
引張強さ平均は５１６．７Ｎ／ｍｍ2 であり、窪みを形
成することにより、２４．４％の引張強さの向上を図る
ことができる。また、表１の曲げ試験においては、窪み
を形成した板材（資料番号２）の変形開始荷重は６３７
０Ｎ、窪みを形成しない板材（資料番号１）の変形開始
荷重は４２８８Ｎであり、４８．５％の向上を図ること
ができる。このような強度の向上は窪み５を鍛造により
形成する際に、均質かつ微細な組織を与える一方、鍛流
線を形成することにより材料のじん性と耐久性等を高め
ることに起因すると考えられる。
【００１４】さらに、前記窪み５は球面状としたので前
記鍛流線の切断等が生じにくく、一層強度を向上でき
る。
【００１５】図５及び図６は第２実施例を示しており、
前記第１実施例と同一部分には同一符号を付し、その詳
細な説明を省略する。第２実施例のアイアン形ゴルフク
ラブヘッドは、例えばベリリウム銅（比重約８．２）か
らなるヘッド本体21のフェース相当部に窓孔22を形成
し、この窓孔22に前記ベリリウム銅合金より比重が小さ
い材料、例えば機械構造用炭素鋼材（比重約７．８）か
らなり、前面にフェース23Ａを形成したフェース部材23
を嵌着したものである。そして、前記フェース部材23は
熱間鍛造により製造した後に、冷間鍛造によりフェース
部材23の後面24に窪み25を形成し、この窪み25を形成し
たフェース部材23を前記ヘッド本体21の窓孔22に嵌着し
たものである。また、フェース部材23をヘッド本体21の
窓孔22に先に嵌着した後、第１実施例と同様にフェース
部材23の後面24に窪み25を鍛造により形成してもよい。
【００１６】以上のように、ヘッド本体21の窓孔22に嵌
着するフェース部材23の後面24に予め窪み25を形成する
ことにより、フェース部材23の強度を向上でき、このフ
ェース部材23の厚みＤを１．０乃至３．５ｍｍ程度に薄
くでき、この薄くできた分の重量をソール７等に配分し
てスイートエリヤの拡大等を図ることができる。また、
ヘッド本体21とフェース部材23を異なる材料により形成
したので、重心Ｇの位置を一層フェース23Ａより離間す
ることができ、スイートエリヤの拡大を図ることができ
る。
【００１７】図７及び図８、図９及び図１０、図１１及
び図１２、図１３及び図１４は第３乃至第６実施例を示
したものであり、前記第１実施例と同一部分には同一符
号を付しその詳細な説明を省略する。第３実施例におい
てはヘッド本体１の後面１Ａに異なる直径を有する球面
状の窪み31，32が形成されている。前記径大な窪み31は
前記後面１Ａのフェース４の中央側に対応する箇所に形
成され、一方径小な窪み32は前記後面１Ａのフェース４
の縁側に対応する箇所に形成され、すなわち環状突起６
側に形成されている。このように異なる形状の窪み31，
32を形成することにより、前記窪み31，32を密に形成で
きる。
【００１８】第４実施例においては、ヘッド本体１の後
面１Ａに異なる直径を有する円錐形状の窪み41，42が形
成されており、前記窪み41，42を密に形成できる。
【００１９】第５実施例においては、ヘッド本体１の後
面１Ａに異なる形状を有する角錐形状の窪み51，52が形
成されており、前記窪み51，52を密に形成できる。
【００２０】第６実施例においては、ヘッド本体１の後
面１Ａに異なる形状を有する断面が角型の窪み61，62が
形成されており、前記窪み61，62を密に形成できる。
【００２１】尚、本発明は前記実施例に限定されるもの
ではなく、種々の変形が可能である。

【発明の効果】本発明は、鍛造により形成した窪みによ
りフェースの強度を向上でき、フェースを薄くできる。
したがって、フェースの薄肉化に伴いその分の重量を他
の部位に配分してスイートエリヤ等の拡大を図ったり自
由な重量配分ができるアイアン形ゴルフクラブヘッドを
提供できる。
【００２３】また、本発明は厚みを１．０乃至３．５ｍ
ｍとしたフェースにより、薄肉化に伴いその分の重量を
他の部位に配分して自由な重量配分ができるアイアン形
ゴルフクラブヘッドを提供できる。

  1. 【請求項１】 ー側にシャフト取付部を設け前面にフェ
    ースを設けた金属製のゴルフクラブヘッド本体の前記フ
    ェースの後面に複数の窪みを鍛造により形成したことを
    特徴とするアイアン形ゴルフクラブヘッド。
  2. 【請求項２】 前記フェースの厚みを１．０乃至３．５
    ｍｍに形成したことを特徴とする請求項１記載のアイア
    ン形ゴルフクラブヘッド。
