に出願された米国出願番号第07/857,903号の
継続部分出願である。また、その継続部分出願は199
0年7月30日に出願された米国出願番号第07/55
9,915号の継続部分出願である。本発明は窓ガラス
用途において日射の透過率を制御するために特に適した
ソーダ石灰シリカガラスに関する。該ガラスは一般に淡
緑色に着色されていると言うことができ、低い熱伝達率
と紫外線波長範囲において特に強化された吸収率とを有
するように設計される。このことは例えば自動車のよう
な用途におけるプラスチックとファブリック(fabrics)
とを太陽光線が劣化させる速度を減ずるために好まし
い。本発明の特定の目的は、高価な成分の必要量を減ず
ることによって、この種のガラスの低コストでの製造を
可能にすることである。
ガラス全体の重量%基準で下記組成: SiO2 66〜75% Na2 O 10〜20 CaO 5〜15 MgO 0〜 5 Al2 O3 0〜 5 K2 O 0〜 5 を有することを特徴とする。
めた、他の微量成分もガラス組成中に存在することがで
きる。少量のK2 O、BaO又はB2 O3 と他の微量成
分も板ガラスに含まれることが時にはあり、任意成分と
見なされる。この基本ガラスに、ガラスの透過率特性を
生ずる着色成分が加えられる。本発明に関するガラスの
カテゴリーにおける主要な着色剤は鉄であり、鉄は通常
Fe2 O3 とFeOの両形態として存在する。ここで
は、ガラス中に存在する鉄の総量を、実際に存在する形
態に拘わらず、通常のように、Fe2 O3 として表現す
る。典型的な、淡緑色の自動車ガラスは約0.5重量%
の、FeO/全鉄の比が約0.25である全鉄を有す
る。
することが重要視されている。大きい面積のガラスの使
用とCFC空気調和装置冷却剤の排除とは、自動車の内
装と空気調和装置系統とに大きい負担を課している。あ
る種の自動車ガラスでは紫外線透過率を38%以下に制
限するという目的が達成されている。同時に、自動車の
視界範囲のガラスは少なくとも70%の視感透過率を有
することが必要条件である。
たすために二つのアプローチが採られてきた。最初のア
プローチでは、ガラスに高い鉄レベルを用いる。この高
い鉄レベルの、暗緑色に着色したタイプの2種類の市販
アニール化製品の例と、通常の淡緑色に着色した上記ガ
ラスの例との着色剤組成と透過率特性とを以下に記載す

%値はまだ所望の目的値を越えている。紫外線透過率を
減ずるために全鉄の量を単に増加することは、視感(可
視光線)透過率を許容し難く低下させるので、好ましく
ない。その上、非常に高レベルの鉄の使用は、例えば短
いキャンペーン(campaign)又は費用のかかる電気ブース
タの使用のような、ガラス製造における問題を生ずる可
能性がある。
0,059号と第5,077,133号明細書に開示さ
れているように、紫外線透過率を減ずるためにガラスに
酸化セリウム、又は酸化セリウム+酸化チタンを用い
る、下記例はこの第2アプローチを用いる市販製品の例
である:
透過率との好ましい組合せを有するが、セリウム供給源
の高いコストがこのガラスの製造コストを実質的に高め
る。このような高い原料コストを招くことなく上記目的
を満たすことができることが望ましい。上記2アプロー
チによって製造したガラスが焼入れ時及び太陽の紫外線
への暴露時に薄黒くなることも判明している。このこと
は次には視感透過率をも低下させる。それ故、ガラスが
使用後に少なくとも70%の視感透過率を有することを
保証するためには、熱吸収性成分(Fe2 O3 )を減ず
ることが必要である。
性が強化され、ソラリゼーションが減ぜられたガラスを
低コストで製造することが望ましい。上記及びこの開示
を通しての透過率データは、他に記載する場合を除い
て、ガラス厚さ3.9mm(0.154インチ)に基づ
くものとする。視感透過率(LTA )はC.I.E.標
準光源“A”を用いて波長範囲380〜770nmにわ
たって10nm間隔で測定する。総太陽紫外線透過率
(TSUV)は波長範囲300〜400nmにわたって
10nm間隔で測定する。総太陽赤外線透過率(TSI
R)は波長範囲800〜2100nmにわたって50n
m間隔で測定する。総太陽エネルギー透過率は波長範囲
300〜2100nmにわたって50nm間隔で測定す
る。
率値を波長区間[a,b]にわたって積分する。この範
囲をポイント{X0 ,X1 ,・・・,Xn }によって長
さhの等小区間n個に分割する、この場合Xi =a+
(ixh)である。一般に、方形公式又は台形公式を用
いて、透過率データを算出する。各方法に対して、種々
の補間関数を用いて各小区間における構成要素fを概算
する。これらの補間関数の積分が積分の概算値を与え
る:

れは[a,b]のf(X)の階段関数の概算と数値積分

公式に基づくものである。
0.189インチ(3.9〜4.9mm)の範囲内の厚
さにおいて、視感透過率少なくとも70%と紫外線透過
率38%以下とを有する、淡緑色に着色した紫外線吸収
性ソーダ石灰シリカガラスを提供する。本発明において
は、この性質は総ガラス組成の2.0重量%未満のTi
O2 、好ましくは0.05〜0.6重量%のTiO
2 と、0.60重量%を越える全鉄(Fe2O3 として
表現)、好ましくは0.6〜0.95重量%の全鉄と、
0.350未満、好ましくは0.24〜0.29のFe
O/全鉄(Fe2 O3 として表現した全鉄によって除し
た、FeOとして表現した第1鉄)の比とを有する着色
剤を用いることによって得られる。鉄と酸化チタンとの
組合せは実際に視感透過率を高め、それによって吸収剤
の最大レベルの使用を可能にし、ガラスの総合日射性能
を改良することができる。
ンチの範囲内の厚さにおいて、紫外線透過率38%以下
(300〜400nm)と視感透過率(光源A)少なく
とも70%とを有する、淡緑色に着色した紫外線吸収性
ソーダ石灰シリカガラスの製造方法を提供する。この方
法は、重量%基準で、2.0重量%未満のTiO2 、好
ましくは0.05〜0.6重量%のTiO2 と、0.6
重量%を越える全鉄(Fe2 O3 として表現)、好まし
くは0.6〜0.95重量%の全鉄とから本質的に成
り、0.350未満、好ましくは0.24〜0.29の
FeO/全鉄の比(Fe2 O3 として表現した全鉄によ
って除した、FeOとして表現した第1鉄)を有する着
色剤部分を含むソーダ石灰シリカガラスを溶融し、成形
する工程と;前記ガラスを焼入れしてそれの視感透過率
を70%を越える値にまで高める工程とを含む。
ではなく、この組成は上記範囲を特徴とする、通常のソ
ーダ石灰シリカ板ガラス組成から成ることができる。好
ましくは、基本ガラスは当業者が連続融解炉で製造し、
フロート(float) 方法によって板ガラスに成形すること
ができる公知のものである。本発明の基本ガラスの特定
の例は、前記例Aである下記例に見ることができる。基本ガラス組成例A組成 SiO2 72.67 重量% Na2 O 13.76 CaO 8.71 MgO 3.84 Al2 O3 0.14 K2 O 0.05 SO3 0.214 Fe2 O3 (合計) 0.521
与えずに存在することができる。例えばSO3 のような
溶融/清澄助剤はガラスの製造中に有用であり、ガラス
中のそれらの残留量は変化することができ、ガラス製品
の性質に有意な影響を与えない。この例ではK2 Oが不
純物として存在し、その存在は必要ではないが、ガラス
中でNa2 Oの機能に実質的に等しい機能を果たす。例
1のガラスを溶融形成するための原料のバッチ混合物は
下記のとおりである: 砂 1000 ソーダ灰 329 石灰石 71 ドロマイト 242 石こう 19.65 鉄丹 6.4
全鉄の比を制御することが重要である。この第1鉄/全
鉄の比を制御する方法の一つは、バッチ混合物中に含め
る石炭(coal)その他の還元剤の量を選択することであ
る。石炭の代わりに、種々の他の炭素供給源がガラス溶
融中の還元剤として役立つことが公知である。他の制御
手段は融解炉内の空気/燃料比によるものである。高い
空気/燃料比は融解炉内に、より酸化性である条件を生
じ、これは次に第1鉄/全鉄の比を低下させる。酸化性
制御手段の指定は特定融解炉の特定操作特性に依存す
る。場合によっては、例Aの基本ガラスに関して、本発
明に必要な、適当なガラスレドックス条件を得るために
石炭その他の還元剤を含まないことが望ましい。
の以後の使用と加工との結果として変化することが判明
している。さらに詳しくは、ガラスは紫外線への暴露時
に薄黒くなる傾向があり、これが次にはLTA 、TSU
V、TSETを低下させる。ソラリゼーションと呼ばれ
る、この影響は高レベルの鉄(Fe2 O3 >0.6重量
%)とセリウムとを含むガラスにおいて重大である。さ
らに、焼入れもガラスの分光特性を変化させることが判
明している。ここで用いる焼入れとは、ガラスをそのア
ニール点温度より高温に、ソーダ石灰シリカガラスでは
典型的に約530〜560℃(1000〜1040゜
F)に加熱し、次にこのガラスを急冷して、ガラス温度
を典型的に約496〜521℃(925〜970゜F)
である、ガラスアニール点温度までの焼入れ範囲を通し
て急激に低下させることを意味する。この操作はガラス
の外層における圧縮応力と中心における引張り応力とを
含む。
本ガラスの改良であり、ガラスバッチに酸化チタンを用
いて紫外線透過率を低下させると同時に視感透過率を改
良する利点を説明する。表1は基本ガラス改良と、各組
成の6サンプルに基づくアニール化ガラスの平均分光特
性とを説明する。表2はソラリゼーションと焼入れとに
よる例1、2、3の分光特性の%変化を示す。例1と2
の結果は実際のガラス製造に基づくものであり、表3の
結果は実験室溶融物に基づくものである。
むが、例1における0.017重量%量はガラスバッチ
材料中の不純物に由来する痕跡量の酸化チタンに過ぎな
い。例2と3に関しては、典型的なソーダ石灰シリカガ
ラス(例2)と高鉄ガラス(例3)との両方への酸化チ
タンの添加が紫外線透過率を、基本ガラス組成(例A)
に比べてそれぞれ、12%と33%減ずることが見られ
る。このことから、酸化チタンと、ここに開示したレベ
ルでの鉄(Fe2 O3 )を補助した酸化チタンとを紫外
線吸収剤として用いて、他の添加剤を必要とせずに、紫
外線透過率を減ずることができることは明らかである。
ション後と焼入れ後にLTA に及ぼす影響が特に重要で
ある。例1では、LTA は総量で1.1%が低下した。
このことは、このアニール化ガラスの70.3%のLT
A が焼入れと紫外線への暴露後に結局約69.2%に低
下すると予想されることを意味する。このLTA 値が連
邦法のもとで要求される70%レベル未満であることが
注目される。例2では、LTA は0.6%低下し、これ
は例1に見られる低下率の約半分である。例3では、L
TA が実際に0.2%増加した。
とのそれぞれの影響を比較すると、ソラリゼーションは
例1のLTA を0.7%減ずるが、例2と3におけるL
TAの低下は僅か0.4%であった。焼入れは例1のL
TA を0.4%減ずるが、例2におけるLTA の低下は
僅か0.2%であった。例3では、焼入れは例1におけ
るようにLTA を減ずるのではなく、実際に0.6%増
加させた。例3におけるLTA に対するソラリゼーショ
ンと焼入れとの低い影響と、視感透過率の予想外の増加
とは、例1に比べた場合に特に重要である、この理由は
両組成が殆ど同じ高さの全鉄の量と匹敵できるレドック
スとを有するので、この影響が主として酸化チタンの存
在に起因するからである。この結果、鉄と酸化チタンと
の組合せが実際にLTA を高めることができ、それによ
って鉄の最大量の使用を可能にし、ガラスの総合日射性
能を改良することは明らかである。
よりも大きく、焼入れによる寄与が50%増加し、ソラ
リゼーションによる低下が減少することを示す。TSU
Vはガラス組成が減じようと試みている分光特性である
ので、TSUVのこの低下は好都合である。この場合に
も、例1と3の鉄含量とレドックスとは同等であるの
で、TSUVの有利な低下は主としてガラス中の酸化チ
タンに起因する。
ために酸化チタンを用いる。さらに詳しくは、焼きなま
しガラスのTSUVを減ずるためばかりでなく、焼入れ
とソラリゼーションとの結果としてのTSUVをさらに
減じ、紫外線透過率性能を改良するためにも、酸化チタ
ンを加える。さらに、酸化チタンはソラリゼーションと
焼入れとを抑制することによってLTA の低下を軽減
し、場合によっては実際にLTA を改良する。この結
果、ガラスのソラリゼーションと焼入れとがガラスが規
格を満たすようにLTA を高め、TSUVを減ずること
を期待して、所望の規格に関してボーダーラインである
又はこの規格を満たさない分光特性、特にLTA とTS
UVを有するガラス組成物を酸化チタンを用いて調製す
ることができる。
ベルの鉄を含む他のガラス組成の例と、それらの、ソラ
リゼーションと焼入れとの前の分光特性とを説明する。
表3と4の分光データはそれぞれ0.154インチ
(3.9mm)と0.189インチ(4.9mm)の基
準厚さの実験室溶融物に基づくものである。表5と6の
分光データはこのガラス組成とレドックスとに基づくガ
ラスの分光特性を予測するコンピューターモデルを用い
て得たものである。
3のガラス組成に、例3に示したと同様に、影響を与え
ることが予想される。試験結果に基づくと、ガラスバッ
チの2.0重量%以下の量での酸化チタンを用いて、紫
外線透過率を所望のレベルまで、特に38%を越えない
レベルまでに低下させることができると考えられる。こ
こでは紫外線透過率を波長範囲300〜400nmに関
して報告してきた。他では紫外線測定に範囲300〜3
90nmを用いる。本発明にとって38%の最大紫外線
透過率の目標は、範囲300〜390nmを用いる場合
の31%に大体等しい。さらに、300〜390nm範
囲にわたって方形公式を用いる場合には、最大紫外線透
過率の目標は約34%である。
の色は好みの問題であり、特定の色特徴を本発明にとっ
て本質的であると考える必要はないが、本発明に準じて
製造されたガラスは1%より大きい、通常は2〜4%の
刺激純度と、主波長495〜535nmとを特徴として
いる。本発明では、ガラス組成に酸化チタンとしてチタ
ンを含めた。TiO2 以外の形態のチタン、例えば単体
チタンがバッチ組成に使用可能であるが、これがバッチ
溶融/清澄プロセス中にここに開示した範囲内でこの酸
化物形に転化することは、当業者によって理解されるで
あろう。
(TSET)は比較的低く、そのためにこのガラスを嵌
めた窓ガラスを通過する熱エネルギー量を有意に減ず
る。本発明にとって本質的ではないが、本発明のガラス
のTSETは一般に45%より低い。本発明を特定の実
施態様に関して説明したが、当業者に公知である変化及
び変更が特許請求の範囲によって定義される本発明の範
囲内で行われうることを理解すべきである。
Claims (8)
- 【請求項1】 淡緑色に着色した紫外線吸収性ソーダ石
灰シリカガラスにおいて、TiO2 0.05重量%以上
2.0重量%未満と、0.24〜0.35のFeO/全
鉄の比を有する鉄(Fe 2 O 3 と表して)0.6〜0.
95重量%とから本質的に成る着色剤部分を含み、か
つ、0.154〜0.189インチの範囲内の厚さで、
38%以下(300〜400nm)の紫外線透過率と少
なくとも70%の視感透過率(A光源)とを有する上記
ガラス。 - 【請求項2】 着色剤部分が、0.24〜0.29のF
eO/全鉄比を有する鉄(Fe2O3と表して)0.6
〜0.95重量%及びTiO20.05〜0.60重量
%である請求項1に記載のガラス。 - 【請求項3】 着色剤部分が、0.251〜0.285
のFeO/全鉄比を有する鉄(Fe2O3と表して)
0.65〜0.925重量%及びTiO20.15〜
0.52重量%である請求項2に記載のガラス。 - 【請求項4】 ガラスが495〜535nmの主波長を
示す請求項1に記載のガラス。 - 【請求項5】 ガラスが、前記厚さの範囲内で45%未
満の全太陽エネルギー透過率を示す請求項1に記載のガ
ラス。 - 【請求項6】 0.154〜0.189インチの範囲内
の厚さで、38%以下(300〜400nm)の紫外線
透過率と少なくとも70%の視感透過率(A光源)とを
有する、淡緑色に着色した紫外線吸収性ソーダ石灰シリ
カガラスの製造方法において、 2.0重量%未満のTiO2と、0.6重量%を越え
る、FeO/全鉄の比が0.35未満である鉄(Fe2
O3として表現)とから本質的に成る着色剤部分を含
み、かつ、少なくとも70%の視感透過率を有するソー
ダ石灰シリカガラスを溶融し、成形する工程と、 前記ガラスを焼き入れして、前記視感透過率を70%を
越える値にまで高める工程とを含む上記方法。 - 【請求項7】 0.154インチの基準厚さで、紫外線
透過率が38%以下であり、視感透過率が少なくとも7
0%であり、しかも、着色剤部分が、0.24〜0.2
9のFeO/全鉄比を有する鉄(Fe2O3と表して)
0.8〜0.95重量%及びTiO20.55〜0.5
0重量%である請求項6に記載の方法。 - 【請求項8】 0.189インチの基準厚さで、紫外線
透過率が38%以下であり、視感透過率が少なくとも7
0%であり、しかも、着色剤部分が、0.24〜0.2
9のFeO/全鉄比を有する鉄(Fe2O3と表して)
0.6〜0.8重量%及びTiO20.05〜0.60
重量%である請求項6に記載の方法。
