(57)【要約】 【目的】 ゴルフボールとのインパクトの時に改善され
た感触を提供することを特徴としている。。 【構成】 クラブヘッドのフェイスに複数個の細長い間
隔を置いた挿入体条片を有し、フェイスに複数個の細長
い間隔を置いた窪み溝が設けられ、挿入体が窪み溝に充
填されており、隣接の窪み溝の各組の間に細長い溝が設
けられている。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】この発明はゴルフクラブヘッド、
特に複数個の細長い間隔を置いた挿入体が設けられたゴ
ルフクラブヘッドに関するものである。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】ゴルフの規則は、クラブのフェイスに挿
入体を有するようゴルフクラブヘッド、特にアイアン型
のゴルフクラブヘッドを許すよう近年変更されている。
挿入体の材料はクラブフェイスの材料と異なることが出
来る。従って、フェイスに挿入体を有する多くのクラブ
ヘッドが設計されている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】従来一般的に設計され
ている挿入体は、クラブヘッドのフェイスに連続したヒ
ッティング面を設ける独立部片であり、この様な挿入体
はゴルフボールと通常当接するフェイスのほゞ全体に亙
って延びていたり、或はまたクラブヘッドのスィートス
ポットのフェイスの小さな部分だけを占めるよう成って
いる。
【０００４】従って、この発明は、クラブヘッドのフェ
イスに複数個の細長い間隔を置いた挿入体を有するよう
造られたゴルフクラブヘッドを提供することを目的とし
ている。

【課題を解決するための手段】上述の目的を達成するた
めに、この発明に依れば、ゴルフクラブヘッドは、イン
パクトの時にゴルフボールと接触するヒッティング面が
挿入体材料とフェイス材料との交互の部分から成るヒッ
ティング面と挿入体との間の部分にフェイスの材料が露
呈されている。

【作用】この様に構成されたこの発明のゴルフクラブヘ
ッドにおいて、この様なフェイス構造は、単一材料だけ
がゴルフボールと接触するフェイスと較べて、ゴルフボ
ールとのインパクトの時に改善された感触を提供するこ
とが確信される。
【０００７】この発明の他の目的と特長および利点は以
下の添付図面に沿っての詳細な説明から明らかになろ
う。

【実施例】図面の図１および図２のＡ、Ｂを先ず参照す
るに、符号２０は、本体、すなわちブレード２１とホー
ゼル２２を有するアイアン型のクラブヘッドを大体示し
ている。ホーゼル２２にはクラブヘッド２０を通常のシ
ャフトに取付けるための孔２３が設けられている。
【０００９】ブレード２１は、ホーゼル２２と続いたヒ
ール２４と、トー２５と、ソール２６と、トップエッ
ジ、すなわち上縁面２７と、背面２８と、球、すなわち
ゴルフボールを打つフェイス２９とを有している。ホー
ゼル２２の中心線または軸心に対するフェイス２９の平
面の角度はクラブヘッド２０のロフト角度を決めてお
り、このロフト角度はクラブの番数によって表される。
アイアンクラブヘッドは通常は１番から９番までのクラ
ブとピッチングウエッジである。
【００１０】フェイス２９は平らで、複数個の細長い間
隔を置いた挿入体３１がフェイス２９に埋設されてい
る。各挿入体３１の外面はフェイス２９の平らな面と同
一平面が好適である。クラブヘッド２０には各挿入体３
１のための窪み溝３２が設けられており、挿入体３１が
窪み溝３２に充填される。窪み溝３２と挿入体３１はヒ
ール２４とトー２５の間に延びている。推奨実施例にお
いて、窪み溝３２と挿入体３１は平行で、クラブヘッド
２０が適切なライ角度に在る時にクラブヘッド２０のソ
ール２６の中心が接触する地面Ｇに平行に延びている。
【００１１】また、フェイス２９には複数個の通常の溝
３４が設けられている。図１の図示の実施例において、
溝３４は隣接する挿入体３１の各組の間に延びており、
最上の挿入体３１の上のフェイス２９の上部に別の溝が
設けられている。もし、必要ならば、挿入体３１はフェ
イス２９の上部にも設けることも出来る。併し、フェイ
ス２９の上部はゴルフボールが希に接触するので、挿入
体３１をこゝに設ける必要が無い。
【００１２】溝３４は挿入体３１と地面Ｇとに対して平
行に好適に延びている。また、溝３４は挿入体３１と同
じ或は大体同じ長さに延びているが、挿入体３１よりも
溝３４の長さを短く或は長くすることが出来る。
【００１３】溝３４は通常の様に米国ゴルフ協会の規則
に従っている。溝３４の幅と深さは夫々０.８８９ｍｍ
(０.０３５インチ）と０.５０８ｍｍ（０.０２０イン
チ）で、溝３４間の最小ランド幅は１.９０５ｍｍ（０.
０７５インチ）である。窪み溝３２と挿入体３１の幅と
深さは実質的に大きく、窪み溝３２の幅は約１.５７５
〜７.９２５ｍｍ（約０.０６２〜０.３１２インチ）の
範囲内に出来る。窪み溝６２の深さは約１.５７５〜６.
３５０ｍｍ（約０.０６２〜０.２５０インチ）に出来
る。
【００１４】アイアン型のクラブヘッドは通常の鍛造ま
たは鋳造技術によって製造出来る。窪み溝３２と溝３４
は鍛造または鋳造の際にフェイスに形成される。クラブ
ヘッドが研磨またはバフ磨きされた後に、挿入体３１が
窪み溝３２内に配置される。
【００１５】挿入体３１の材料はフェイス２９の材料と
異なっている。挿入体３１はフェイス２９の材料よりも
硬くも軟らかくもすることが出来る。多くの場合、挿入
体３１の材料はフェイス２９の材料よりも軟らかい。挿
入体３１は従ってゴルフボールとのインパクト、すなわ
ち衝撃を吸収緩和する。
【００１６】この発明の特別な実施例において、挿入体
は、ウレタン、エポキシ、黒鉛（グラファイト）繊維と
エポキシ樹脂の複合材料等から造られる。アイアン型の
クラブヘッドはステンレス鋼から造られる。例えばベリ
リウム銅の様な他の材料または合金が使用出来る。使用
されている特別なウレタンとエポキシはジュロメーター
硬さ９０のポリウレタンとハードマン・エポウエルド・
エポキシである。窪み溝３２は液体ウレタンまたはエポ
キシを充填した後に硬化できる。
【００１７】挿入体３１の幅と間隔は、ゴルフボールが
インパクトの際に挿入体材料とフェイス材料との両材料
に常に接触する様に好適に選ばれる。ゴルフボールは、
ゴルフクラブによってゴルフボールが打たれる時に圧縮
されて平らに成り、ゴルフボールの平らに成った部分の
直径は９番アイアンでの約１９.０５０〜２３.８１３ｍ
ｍ（１２／１６〜１５／１６インチ）からクラブヘッド
速度４.８４８ｍ／秒（１６０フィート／秒）のドライ
バーでの２３.８１３〜２６.９８８ｍｍ（１５／１６〜
１−１／１６インチ）迄の範囲である。ゴルフボールの
平らに成った部分の寸法は、ゴルフボールの圧縮率、ゴ
ルフボールの材料、クラブヘッドの速度等に基づいて変
化する。
【００１８】また、挿入体３１の幅と間隔は、ゴルフボ
ールがインパクトの際に少なくとも２つ以上の挿入体ま
たは少なくとも２つ以上の平面部分と接触する様に選ぶ
よう出来る。
【００１９】図１に示される実施例においては７個の挿
入体３１と１２個の溝３４とが在る。幾つかの挿入体と
溝を必要ならば増減することが出来る。挿入体３１の幅
は１.５７５ｍｍ（０.０６２インチ）であり、隣接する
挿入体３１間の平面部分の幅は２.０８２ｍｍ（０.０８
２インチ）である。挿入体３１と窪み溝３２の長さは同
じである。
【００２０】図３において、溝３４は挿入体３１よりも
幾分長く成っている。挿入体３１の幅と間隔は図１にお
けると同じである。
【００２１】図４は、図１のゴルフクラブよりも更にロ
フトの大きなゴルフクラブを示している。挿入体３１の
幅と間隔は図１の挿入体と同じであるが、挿入体３１は
溝３４よりも幾分長い。同図にては７個の挿入体３１と
１５個の溝３４が在るが、幾つかの挿入体と溝を増減し
て使用出来る。
【００２２】図５において、挿入体３１の幅と間隔は図
１におけるよりも大きい。挿入体３１の幅は約３.１７
５ｍｍ（０.１２５インチ）で、挿入体３１間の間隔は
約３.９６２ｍｍ（０.１５６インチ）である。同図にて
は４個の挿入体３１と８個の溝３４が在る。
【００２３】図６において、挿入体３１の幅は約５.５
３７ｍｍ（０.２１８インチ）で、挿入体３１間の間隔
は約２.３６２ｍｍ（０.１５６インチ）である。同図に
ては４個の挿入体３１と８個の溝３４が在る。また、幾
つかの挿入体３１と溝３４を増減するよう使用出来る。
【００２４】図７と図８は、この発明に従って造られた
ウッド型のクラブヘッド４０を示している。ウッド型の
クラブヘッドは従来一般的にはウッド、すなわち木から
造られるが、多くのウッド型のクラブヘッドが今日は金
属や複合材料から造られる。この発明は、木や金属や或
は他の材料のいずれからも造られるウッド型のクラブヘ
ッドに使用出来る。
【００２５】クラブヘッド４０は本体４１とホーゼル４
２とを有している。本体４１はヒール４３とトー４４と
ソール４５と頂面４６と背面４７（図１１）とフェイス
４８とを有している。ウッド型クラブヘッド４０のフェ
イス４８は膨らんだ湾曲した曲面に普通に設けられてお
り、平らな平面に成っていない。
【００２６】複数個の細長く間隔を置いた平行な窪み溝
５０（図７）がフェイス４８に設けられており、各窪み
溝５０に挿入体５１（図８）が充填されている。窪み溝
５０と挿入体５１は、クラブヘッド４０が適切なライ角
度に在る時にソール４５が係合する地面とほゞ平行にヒ
ール４３とトー４４の間に延びている。
【００２７】また、ウッド型クラブヘッド４０における
挿入体５１の材料はフェイス４８の材料よりも硬いか或
は軟らかな、いずれにもすることが出来る。好適には、
挿入体５１はフェイス４８よりも軟らかく、使用できる
特別な挿入体材料はウレタンとエポキシである。
【００２８】ウッド型クラブヘッドの速度はアイアン型
クラブヘッドの速度よりもインパクトにおいて大体早
く、インパクトにおけるゴルフボールの平らに成る面積
は大きい。挿入体の幅と間隔はアイアン型ゴルフクラブ
におけるよりもウッド型ゴルフクラブの方が従って大き
く出来る。
【００２９】図７と図８においては５個の窪み溝５０と
挿入体５１が在り、挿入体５１の幅は約２.７９４ｍｍ
（０.１１０インチ）で、挿入体間の間隔は約３.１７５
ｍｍ（０.１２５インチ）である。図７と図８に示され
る特別な実施例ではフェイス４８には浅い溝が無いが、
必要ならば窪み溝をその間に設けることが出来る。
【００３０】図７と図８のクラブヘッド４０はステンレ
ス鋼から造られるが、他の金属材料も使用出来る。ま
た、クラブヘッドは木や複合材料からも造くることが出
来る。
【００３１】図１１を参照するに、クラブヘッド４０の
本体４１は中空であり、インベストメント鋳造法によっ
て好適に造られる。窪み溝５０は鋳造の際に形成され
る。クラブヘッドの重量を軽くするために複数個の内溝
５２がフェイスの内側面に形成される。
【００３２】図１１の窪み溝５０と挿入体５１はほゞＵ
字形で丸く成った底部を有している。窪み溝５０の幅は
約３.１７５ｍｍ（０.１２５インチ）で、窪み溝５０の
深さは約３.１７５ｍｍ（０.１２５インチ）である。隣
接の窪み溝５０間の間隔は３.１７５ｍｍ（０.１２５イ
ンチ）である。
【００３３】図１２は、窪み溝５３と挿入体５４が断面
矩形に成った変形例を示している。窪み溝５３の幅と間
隔は図１１の窪み溝と同じである。窪み溝５３の深さは
３.８１０ｍｍ（０.１５０インチ）である。
【００３４】図９と図１０は、フェイス５７に３個の窪
み溝５８（図９）と挿入体５９（図１０）とが有るクラ
ブヘッド５６を示している。窪み溝５８の幅は約６.３
５０ｍｍ（０.２５０インチ）で、挿入体５９間の間隔
は約３.４２９ｍｍ（０.１３５インチ）である。通常の
フェイス溝６０が挿入体５９の間と挿入体５９の上下に
設けられている。溝６０は挿入体５９と平行に延びてい
る。
【００３５】図１３乃至図１５は、異なった寸法と形状
の窪み溝と挿入体とを有するウッド型のクラブヘッドの
他の実施例における断面図である。図１３のクラブヘッ
ド６１は３個の大きな矩形の窪み溝６２と挿入体６３と
を有している。窪み溝６２は幅が約６.３５０ｍｍ（０.
２５０インチ）で、深さが約３.１７５ｍｍ（０.２５０
インチ）で、間隔が約３.１７５ｍｍ（０.１２５イン
チ）である。
【００３６】図１４のクラブヘッド６４は、更に間隔を
置いている４個の薄い矩形の窪み溝６５と挿入体６６と
を有している。図１５のクラブヘッド６７は４個の窪み
溝６８と挿入体６９とを有している。
【００３７】こゝに説明されたクラブヘッドの寸法は、
鍛造および鋳造されるゴルフクラブヘッドの標準の製造
公差を条件としている。
【００３８】以上の説明において、この発明の特異な実
施例の説明が図示説明のために行われたが、こゝに記載
された多くの詳細がこの発明の精神と範囲とを逸脱する
ことなく当業者によって適宜に変更できることが理解さ
れよう。

Claims (23)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 ソールとトーとヒールと頂面と背面とボ
    ールを打つフェイスとを有する本体から成り、フェイス
    は複数個の細長い間隔を置いた窪み溝を有する材料から
    造られ、本体の材料と異なった材料の挿入体が該窪み溝
    に充填されて挿入体がボールを打つフェイスと同一の面
    を成していることを特徴とするゴルフクラブヘッド。
  2. 【請求項２】 フェイスの材料は金属で、挿入体の材料
    がフェイスの金属よりも軟らかである請求項１記載のゴ
    ルフクラブヘッド。
  3. 【請求項３】 挿入体の材料がウレタンである請求項２
    記載のゴルフクラブヘッド。
  4. 【請求項４】 挿入体の材料がエポキシである請求項２
    記載のゴルフクラブヘッド。
  5. 【請求項５】 挿入体の材料が黒鉛繊維と樹脂である請
    求項２記載のゴルフクラブヘッド。
  6. 【請求項６】 窪み溝が平行で且つトーとヒールの間に
    延びている請求項１記載のゴルフクラブヘッド。
  7. 【請求項７】 フェイスの、隣接の窪み溝の各組の間に
    細長い溝が設けられていて、溝が窪み溝と平行に延びて
    いる請求項６記載のゴルフクラブヘッド。
  8. 【請求項８】 フェイスの、隣接の窪み溝の各組の間に

    スは金属で造られていてフェイスの金属よりも軟らかで
    ある材料の挿入体が充填される少なくとも３個の細長い
    平行に間隔を置いた窪み溝を有し、且つフェイスは窪み
    溝と平行に延びる隣接の窪み溝の各組の間に細長い溝を
    有することを特徴とするゴルフクラブヘッド。
