Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 ［産業上の利用分野］ 本発明は請求の範囲第１項の前提項による自動車乗員用
安全装置に関する。
［従来の技術］ 運転者および前席同乗車の前方車室内にたたまれた空気
袋を備えること、および事故の際それにガスを充填し自
動車乗員の前でふくらませ前方の固い内装部に乗員が衝
突するのを防護し、その結果乗員をけがから守ることは
すでに知られている。同じ（運転者側に設けられる空気
袋はハンドルポットに、前席同乗車側に設けられる空気
袋はダッシェボードの収納部に、それぞれ、取り付ける
ことも従来から行われていた。前席同乗車側に設けられ
る空気袋は運転者側に設けられる空気袋のそれの幾倍か
の充填容積があるので、ダツシュボードと前席同乗車間
の大きな空隙をそれによって満たすことができる。
前席同乗者が安全ベルトを締めていない時、前席同乗車
が空気袋に直面することになると、特に自動車が障害物
に対して斜めに衝突したような場合には、前席同乗車は
横方向のモーメントによって空気袋外被の広い表面に沿
ってすべり２つの空気袋の間に落ちてしまい、その結果
空気袋はもはや衝突に対して防護の役を果たさなくなっ
てしまう。
米国特許４２６５４６８は自動用前席に座る３人の乗員
用の２つの防護クツションを備えた衝突防護装置を開示
している。ここでは２つのクツションが互いに相手方に
向かう壁の部分でほんの少し互いに重なり合っている。
しかし乗員が防護クツション間をすべり落ちないように
２つのクツションが意図的な方法で互いに支承し合う確
実な手段はそこにはない。
［発明の目的］ 本発明の目的は、運転者側に設けられる空気袋と前席同
乗車側に設けられる空気袋の相互作用を利用して、特に
安全ベルトをしていない自動車乗員が前方内装部に衝突
しないように防護を強化することである。
本目的は請求の範囲第１項の特徴項の手段によって達成
される。
［発明の概要］ 本発明によれば、２つの空気袋が意図的に互いに対向し
て重なり合う状態にあるので、例えば安全ベルトをせず
に後部席に座っている同乗車は、事故の時、２つの前席
の間を通って前方に放り出される危険があるのだが、自
動車の中間部にある２つの空気袋の境界部が、このよう
な乗員がダツシュボードに衝突しないように、より有効
な防護を提供する。
また本発明によれば支承面に角度（上部から見た時）が
つけられているので、２つの空気袋は互いに妨げ合わな
いので、それらは完全にかつ正確な時間で拡がることが
できる。ふくらんだ状態での２つの空気袋の支承面の相
互の支承の結果、これら２つの空気袋は支承面が形成す
る直線に対しである角度を持って働く力に対してそれら
が支持効果を発揮するに際して互いに補強し合うことも
できる。従って支承面を効果的に利用することができる
、即ち、それらの表面設計あるいは材料選択によって、
支承面相互の相対的な動きをより困難にするかあるいは
阻止するようなある種の付着が生じるようなものにでき
る。
運転者側に設けられる空気袋がハンドルポットに配置さ
れ前席同乗者側に設けられる空気袋がダツシュボードに
配置される場合には、この配置上の理由から後者の空気
袋は必然的により大きな充填容積を持ちかつ比較すると
それが拡がりきるのは幾分遅いので、支承面の重なりの
傾斜が、上部から見た時、２つの空気袋の支承面が自動
車の長手方向軸に対して時計回りに回軸した方向に伸び
るように並べることが有利である、そうすると前席同乗
車側に設けられた空気袋と運転者側に設けられた空気袋
とがそれぞれの支承面で接衝するまでは、運転者側に設
けられた空気袋は妨げられることなく拡がることができ
る。
［実施例］ 本発明の一実施例を図示する。
図は自動車１の前部を上方から見た平面図であり、その
車室２内には乗員５．６がそれぞれ運転席３および前方
同乗席４に座っており、自動車１がちょうど事故に合い
、自動車乗員５．６が前方内装部に衝突するのを防止す
る運転者側に設けられた空気袋７および前席同乗車側に
設けられた空気袋８を含む安全装置が作動した時の状態
を示している。運転者側に設けられた空気袋７はハンド
ルのハンドルポット９に取り付けられており、事故の際
には、その中に一体的に設けられたガス発生手段（図示
せず）によってガスが充填され、その結果空気袋７は乗
員５およびハンドルポット９間で防護の働きをするよう
ふくらむ。前席同乗車側に設けられた空気袋８は前部ダ
ッシュボード１ｏの収納部中にたたまれて備えつけられ
ており、事故の際には同様にガスで充填され、その結果
それはダツシュボード１０と前席同乗車６間で防護の働
きをするようになる。
従って、自動車中間部１１にある空気袋７．８間の境界
部は乗員の保護のためにも利用可能であるように、２つ
の空気袋７．８はそれらが意図的に自動車中間部１１で
互いに重なり合いかつ、上部から見た時、各々は自動車
の長手方向軸に対して回軸した方向に伸びる相互の支承
面１２．１３を有するよう構成されている。ここで、自
動車乗員が自動車中間部１１のダツシュボード１０に向
けて投げ出されたとすると、２つの空気袋７．８のこの
重なり合いの結果、この乗員がこの袋の支承部を通って
すべり落ちかつ前部の固い内装部に衝突するのが防止さ
れる。自動車の長手方向軸に対する支承面１２．１３の
斜きは、その重なり合いにもかかわらず空気袋７．８が
妨げられずに拡がれることおよびそれらが乗員の荷重を
受けた時それらが抑制効果を発揮する際に互いに補い合
えることをも確実にする。自動車の長手方向軸に対する
支承面は角度でα＝４５°回転することが乗員に対する
考えられる種々の方向の衝撃の点から望ましい。
支承面１２．１３の相互の支承は支承面１２．１３をそ
れぞれの表面が互いに強固に付着するように構成するこ
とによってさらに補強される。
自動車ｌの空気袋７．８の図面での配置では、運転者側
に設けられる空気袋７はハンドルボット９に取り付けら
れ、前席同乗車側に設けられる空気袋８は乗員から比較
的離れたところに配置されているダツシュボード１０に
取り付けられているので、前席同乗車側に設けられた空
気袋８はかなりの容積を持つように作る必要がありこの
ためその拡がりおよび充填時間は運転者側に設けられる
空気袋７のそれより幾分遅れる。
上方から見て、空気袋の支承面１２．１３を自動車の長
手方向軸に対して時計回りに回転した方向に配列するこ
とは本配置にとって有利である。

Claims (4)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. （１）自動車乗員が前方内装部に衝突するのを防ぐため
    、運転者側および前席同乗車側にそれぞれ設けられた空
    気袋を備えた自動車乗員用安全装置において、充填状態
    において上記２つの空気袋（７、８）は上記自動車の中
    間部（１１）において互いに重なり合いかつ上部から見
    た時それぞれは自動車の長手方向の軸に対して角度αを
    形成している相互の支承面（１２、１３）を持つことを
    特徴とする安全装置
  2. （２）前記角度αは約４５度であることを特徴とする請
    求の範囲第１項による安全装置
  3. （３）運転者側に設けられている上記空気袋（７）はハ
    ンドルポット（９）に取り付けられており、さらに上部
    から見た時、上記支承面 （１２、１３）は自動車の長手方向の軸に対して時計回
    りに回転した方向に配列されていることを特徴とする先
    行する請求項の１つによる安全装置
  4. （４）前記支承面（１２、１３）はそれぞれの表面が互
    いに強固に付着するよう構成されていることを特徴とす
    る請求の範囲第１項による安全装置
