Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は、データ処理システムにおける外部記憶装置の
ためのバックアップ技術に関し、特に、外部記憶装置の
バックアップ用データを他の記憶媒体に複写するための
方法及び装置に関する。
〔従来の技術〕
外部記憶装置（例えば磁気ディスク）に記憶されている
データは、データ処理のために使用され、そして、デー
タ処理の結果に従って更新される。
他方、このような外部記憶装置上のデータが、ハードウ
ェアの故障、プログラムの誤り、操作の誤り、いわゆる
バッカーのいたずら、その他の不測の事態のために破壊
される恐れは、常に存在する。
このようにして破壊されたデータの回復のために。
外部記憶装置の内容を、適当な時間間隔で、他の記憶媒
体（例えば磁気テープ）に複写、すなわちダンプするこ
とが、今日では普通である。
ダンプの最も単純なやり方は、外部記憶装置の全内容を
毎回ダンプすることである。しかし、それでは、ダンプ
処理のために通常のデータ処理が中断される時間が長く
、かつ、ダンプされたデータを格納するために大量の記
憶媒体が必要である。
これらの鮮魚を除くために、特開昭５７−９０７７０号
公報に記載されたシステムでは、ディスク制御装置が、
更新されたデータブロックの位置（例えばトラック）を
示す情報を制御メモリに記録し、全ジョブの実行完了後
に、ＣＰＵが、この制御メモリの内容を読出して、更新
のあったデータブロックのみをダンプし、ダンプ完了時
に制御メモリをリセットする。このようにして取得され
た更新のあった諸データブロックと、最初にダンプされ
た全体のデータとを用いて、データを回復することがで
きる。
〔発明が解決しようとする課題〕
前記公開公報記載のシステムでは、ダンプ処理に要する
時間と記憶媒体量は著しく低減される。
しかし、ダンプ処理が完了するまでは、ジョブの処理を
行なうことができない。その理由は、もしもダンプ処理
の途中でデータ更新が起こると、この更新が看過されて
、その更新されたデータがダンプされない恐れがあるか
らである。例えば、あるトラック上のデータがダンプさ
れ終った直後に、同じトラック上のデータが更新される
と、このデータ更新の記録は、ダンプ処理完了時のリセ
ット動作によって消されてしまう、他方、計算センター
の計算機システムや、各種のオンライン処理用計算機シ
ステムには、２４時間の無体稼動が要求されることが多
い、このような計算機システムにとって、ダンプ処理の
ために通常のジョブ処理をかなりの期間停止するのは、
甚だ好ましくない。
本発明の主たる目的は、更新のあったデータブロックの
みのダンプを１通常のジョブ処理を停止することなく、
それと並行して遂行できるようにすることにある。
また、このような型のダンプ処理については。
更新のあったデータブロックの位置の記録が、ダンプ処
理のキャンセルやシステムダウンによりダンプ処理が中
止された時にリセットさ九たり、あるいは、停電によっ
て失われたりすると、完全なバックアップデータを取得
することができない。
本発明の他の目的は、データ更新記録の前記のような誤
ったリセットや消失を防止し、それにより、前記のよう
な更新されたデータ部分のみのダンプによるバックアッ
プの信頼性を向上させることにある。
〔課題を解決するための手段〕
本発明においては、各時点でデータ更新が行なわれた各
領域を識別する第１３ａ別情報に加えて、特にダンプ処
理中にデータ更新が行なわれた各領域を識別する第２識
別情報を、制御メモリに格納し、そして、ダンプ処理の
完了時に制御メモリをリセットする際に、第２識別情報
により識別されるの同じ領域を識別する第１識別情報は
、消去せずに残す。例えば、第１識別情報と第２識別情
報は、データ更新が行なわれた外部記憶装置中の領域に
対応する制御メモリ中の格納位置における、第１ビット
及び第２ビットの値としてそれぞれ記録され、第１ビッ
トは、対応する外部記憶装置中の領域でデータ更新が行
なわれた時常に１″にセットされ、第２ビットは、その
更新がダンプ処理中に生じた場合にのみ“１”にセット
される。
第２ビットが“１″ならば、ダンプ処理完了時における
第１ビットのリセットは禁止される。ダンプ処理におい
ては、第１１別情報（第１ビット）により識別される領
域のデータがダンプされる。
第１識別情報の消去は、ダンプ処理の完了の確認後に、
ダンプ処理を監督する上位装置（例えばＣＰＵ又は入出
力制御装置）からの指令を待って行なうのがよい、また
、第１識別情報と第２識別情報を格納する制御メモリは
、不揮発性であることが望ましい。
〔作用〕
ダンプ処理中にデータ更新が行なわれたことを示す第２
識別情報を格納し、それを用いて第１識別情報のリセッ
トを制御することにより、ダンプ処理中に更新されたデ
ータは、ダンプ未了の状態に保たれ１次のダンプ処理の
対象に加えられる。
したがって、ダンプ処理中にデータが更新されても、何
の支障も生じない、換言すれば、平常のデータ処理と並
行して、あるいはその合い間に、更新されたデータ部分
のみを、漏れなくダンプすることが可能になる。
第１識別情報の消去を上位装置からの指令を待って行な
うことは、ダンプ処理のキャンセル、システムダウン等
に起因するダンプ処理の中止により第１識別情報が破壊
されるのを防ぐ、このような中止の後、保存された第１
識別情報に従ってダンプ処理を単純に再度実行すること
により、更新されたすべてのデータ部分を、誤りなく取
得することができる。また、不揮発性の制御メモリの採
用は、更新されたデータの位置を示す情報が停電により
失われるのを防止して、それにより、更新されたデータ
のみをダンプするバックアップシステムの信頼性を改善
する。
〔実施例〕
第１図は１本発明の一実施例をブロックダイヤグラムで
示す、中央処理装置１（ＣＰＵ）↓は、チャネル（ＣＨ
）２を介して、入出力装置及び外部記憶装置と接続され
る０図示の例では、ＣＰＵＩは、あるチャネルＣＨｔを
介してディスク制御装置３に接続され、他のチャネルＣ
Ｈ４を介して磁気テープ制御装置１１に接続される。デ
ィスク制御装置３は次に磁気ディスク装置１０に接続さ
れ、磁気テープ制御装置は次に磁気テープ装置１２に接
続される１図において、単線矢印は制御信号路を表わし
、複線矢印はデータ路を表わす。
ディスク制御装置３は、このディスク制御装置３とチャ
ネル２の間の信号の授受を行なうチャネルインタフェー
ス制御部４と、ＣＰＵＩと磁気ディスク装置１ｏの間を
転送されるデータを一時的に蓄えるためのデータバッフ
ァ５と、このディスク制御装置３を制御するマイクロプ
ロセッサ６と、このマイクロプロセッサ６のプログラム
及び後述する更新シリンダ管理テーブルその他の制御情
報を格納する制御メモリ７と、この制御メモリ７のため
の無停電電源８と、このディスク装置３と磁気ディスク
装置１０の間の信号の授受を行なうデバイスインタフェ
ース制御部９とを有する。本実施例では、制御メモリと
して半導体メモリが用いられ、無停電電源８は、この半
導体制御メモリを不揮発性にするために設けられる。す
なわち、無停電電源８は、バッテリを備え、ディスク制
御装置３の主電源が故障しても制御メモリ７への電力供
給を維持し、それにより、制御情報、特に更新シリンダ
管理テーブルのデータが、電源故障のために消失するの
を防止する。
本実施例では、更新の有無、したがってダンプの要否が
、シリンダ単位で管理される。第２図は、制御メモリ７
に保持される更新シリンダ管理テーブルの一例を示す。
この更新シリンダ管理テーブル２０は、全シリンダの識
別番号を保持するシリンダ番号フィールド２１と、各シ
リンダにつき１ビットの更新Ａフィールド２２と、各シ
リンダにつき１ビットの更新Ｂフィールド２３とを有す
る。
あるシリンダに属するトラック上のデータが更新される
と、対応する更新Ａフィールド２２と更新Ｂフィールド
２３の双方に“１″が書込まれる。
ダンプ開始時に、すべての更新Ｂフィールド２３がリセ
ットされ、ダンプ完了時、更新Ａフィールド２２が、関
連する更新Ｂフィールド２３が“１”を保持するものを
除いて、リセットされる。したかって、更新Ａフィール
ド２２のビット値″１”は、対応するシリンダ上のデー
タが更新されていて、ダンプを必要とすることを示し、
更新Ｂフィールド２３のビット値“１″は、関連する更
新Ａフィールドが示す更新が、最近のダンプ開始時点以
後に生じたものであることを示す。第２図は、ダンプ開
始後でダンプ完了前のある時点における更新シリンダ管
理テーブルの内容の一例を示す。
例えば、シリンダ７２２は、今回のダンプ処理の開始前
に更新されたものであり、シリンダ７２３は、今回のダ
ンプ処理の開始後に更新されたものである。
磁気ディスク装置１０への書込み並びにそれからの読出
し及びダンプの動作は、ＣＰＵＩからチャネル２へ発せ
られる命令によって開始され、命令を受けたチャネル２
は、ディスク制御装置３及び場合により磁気テープ制御
装置１１に所要のコマンドを送って、命令された動作を
遂行させる。
書込動作において、周知のように、ＣＰＵＩは。
チャネルＣＨ１へ入出力開始命令を発し、かつ、チャネ
ルプログラム（チャネルコマンドワードチエイン）を指
定する。チャネルＣＨ１は、指定されたチャネルプログ
ラムに従って、書込コマンドと、シリンダ番号、トラッ
ク番号、レコード番号等から成るアドレス情報と、デー
タとを、ディスク制御装置３に送る。ディスク制御装置
３において、マイクロプロセッサ６は、チャネルＣＨ１
からのコマンドに従い、磁気ディスク装置１ｏを制御し
て、受取ったデータを指定されたアドレスに書込む。書
込みに際して、マイクロプロセッサ６は、制御メモリ７
中の更新シリンダ管理テーブルの対応する更新Ａフィー
ルド２２と更新Ｂフィールド２３の双方に、０１′″を
書込む。
ダンプ動作は、第３図にフローチャートの形で示されて
いる。ダンプ開始時に、ＣＰＵＩは、チャネルＣＨ１を
介して、ディスク制御装置３にダンプ開始を通知しくス
テップ３１）、これを受けて、ディスク制御装置３中の
マイクロプロセッサ６は、制御メモリ７中の更新シリン
ダ管理テーブルの更新Ｂフィールド２３のすべてを、“
０”にリセットする（ステップ３２）０次いで、ＣＰＵ
１は、更新Ａフィールドの読出しを要求し、これに応答
して、マイクロプロセッサ６は、更新Ａフィールドの内
容をＣＰＵＩに転送する（ステップ３３）。この時の更
新Ａフィールドの内容は、前回のダンプ開始通知の発行
から今回のダンプ開始通知の発行までの間に更新された
シリンダを示している。
ＣＰＵＩは、受取った更新Ａフィールドを調べて、そこ
に“１”を持つすべてのシリンダの内容を逐次ダンプす
る（ステップ３４）、詳述すれば。
ＣＰｔＪｌは、対応する更新Ａフィールドが“１”を持
つシリンダの１つを指定して、その読出しをチャネルＣ
Ｈｒに命じ（ステップ３５）、読出しの完了が報告され
ると、今度はチャネルＣＨａに命じて、この読出された
データを、磁気テープ装置１０上の磁気テープに書込ま
せる（ステップ３６）。この処理は、対応する更新Ａフ
ィールドが“１”を持つすべてのシリンダについて反復
される。この間に任意のシリンダに対して更新（書込）
動作が行なわれると、前述のように、対応する更新Ａフ
ィールドと更新Ｂフィールドに“１”が書込まれる。
更新Ａフィールドが１″を持つ全シリンダのダンプが完
了すると、ＣＰＵＩは、更新Ａフィールドのリセットを
命じ、これに応答して、マイクロプロセッサ６は、更新
Ａフィールドを、対応する更新Ｂフィールドに１”を持
つものを除き。
リセットする（ステップ３７）、その結果、ステップ３
４におけるダンプ動作中に更新されたシリンダの更新Ａ
フィールドはパ１′″に保たれ、これらのシリンダの内
容は、次回のダンプ処理においてダンプされることにな
る。その後、ＣＰＵＩは。
ダンプ完了をチャネルＣＨ１とディスク制御装置３に通
知しくステップ３８）、かくてダンプ処理は終了する。
第４図は、以上に説明したシステムにおいて。
オンライン稼動中に行なわれるダンプ処理のシーケンス
の一例を示す０図において、「上位装置」は、ＣＰＵＩ
とチャネル２の総称である。最初のダンプ処理において
は、従来と同様に、磁気ディスクの全内容がテープエに
ダンプされる。その後。
シリンダ１０２上のデータが更新され、したがって、マ
イクロプロセッサ６は、制御メモリ７中の更新シリンダ
管理テーブルのシリンダ１０２に対応する更新Ａフィー
ルドと更新Ｂフィールドに。
“１”を書込む、更にその後、シリンダ１０５上のデー
タが更新され、その結果、シリンダ１０５に対応する更
新Ａフィールドと更新Ｂフィールドに“１′″が書込ま
れる。
やがて、ＣＰＵＩからチャネルＣＨＬを介してダンプ開
始が通知され、これに応答して、マイクロプロセッサ６
は、更新Ｂフィールドをすべてリセットする０次に、Ｃ
ＰＵＩからの要求に応じて、マイクロプロセッサ６は、
更新Ａフィールドを、チャネルＣＨｓを介してＣＰＵＩ
に転送する。この時点における更新Ａフィールドは、そ
れまでにデータ更新が生じたシリンダ１０２と１０５に
対応する位置に、′１”を保持している。ＣＰＵＩは、
この転送された更新Ａフィールドのデータに従って、ま
ず、シリンダ１０２上のデータのダンプを開始する。
本発明によれば、ダンプ処理中でも、データの更新が許
される０図示の例では、シリンダ１０２上のデータがダ
ンプされつつある間に、シリンダ１００上のデータが、
稼動中のリアルタイム処理の結果として更新され、それ
に応じて、シリンダ１００に対応する更新Ａフィールド
と更新Ｂフィールドに“１”が書込まれる。更にその後
、シリンダ１０５上のデータがダンプされつつある間に
、同じシリンダ１０５上のデータが更新され、それに応
じて、シリンダ１０５に対応する更新Ａフィールドと更
新Ｂフィールドに改めて１１”が書込まれる。
ダンプ開始時に制御メモリ７からＣＰＵＩに転送された
更新Ａフィールドの“１′″が示す全シリンダから、デ
ータがダンプされ終ると、ＣＰＵＩは、更新Ａフィール
ドのリセットを命じ、これに従って、マイクロプロセッ
サ６は、更新Ａフィールドを、関連する更新Ｂフィール
ドに１”を持つものを除いて、リセットする。したがっ
て、ダンプ処理中にデータ更新が生じたシリンダ１００
と１０５に対応する更新Ａフィールドが、リセットされ
ずに残る。次いで、ダンプ完了がＣＰＵＩから通知され
る。この時点で、更新シリンダ管理テーブルは、シリン
ダ１００と１０５上のデータが次回のダンプ処理の対象
に加えられなければならないことを示し、磁気テープ■
には、シリンダ１０２と１０５上のデータが、バックア
ップ用に収録されている。この磁気テープＨに記録され
ている更新されたデータ部分と、磁気テープＩに記録さ
れているディスクの口金内容との双方を用いることによ
り、磁気テープ■へのダンプが開始された時点における
ディスクの全内容を、回復することができる。ダンプ処
理中に、シリンダ１０５のダンプし終った位置のデータ
が更新されたとしても、その更新されたデータは、次の
ダンプ処理において確実にダンプされる。
更新Ａフィールドは、ＣＰＵＩがダンプ完了を確認した
後に発行するリセット命令により始めてリセットされる
。その結果、ダンプ処理の途中で、それが何らかの支障
によりキャンセル又は中止されても、そのダンプ処理を
中止した時点における更新Ａフィールドデータは、制御
メモリ７中に保存されており、したがって、それを用い
てダンプ処理を再度実行することにより、更新された全
データ部分を漏れなく取得することができる。更に、制
御メモリ７は、無停電電源８により不揮発性を備えてい
るから、ディスク制御装置３の電源がダウンしても、制
御メモリ中の更新シリンダ管理テーブルデータは、失わ
れることがない。
前述の実施例は、本発明の範囲内で種々変形することが
できる。特に、更新Ｂフィールドのデータは、ダンプ処
理中、詳しくは、更新Ａフィールドの上位装置への転送
の開始から更新Ａフィールドのリセットの完了までの期
間、に生起したデータ更新を識別すれば足りる。したが
って、更新Ｂフィールドへ“１′″を書込む動作は、例
えば、ダンプ開始通知に応じて（前述の実施例では更新
Ｂフィールドのリセットの直後に）開始され、ダンプ完
了通知に応じて停止されてもよい。更に、この場合には
更新Ｂフィールドのリセットは、そこ八ｉｔ　１　ｐｐ
を書込む動作の停止と同時に行なわれてもよい。
磁気ディスク装置群が複数のディスク制御装置に共通に
接続されるシステムでは、更新シリンダ管理テーブルは
これらのディスク制御装置により共有される。第５図は
、このようなシステムの一例を示す。複数台の磁気ディ
スク装置１０ａ。
ｌ　Ｑ　ｂ　Ｈ１０ｃ　＋・・・が、２台のディスク制
御装置３ａ、３ｂに共通に接続され、これらのディスク
制御装置ｉ３ａ、３ｂのそれぞれは、図示されていない
チャネルを介して、２台のＣＰＵ１ａ、ｌｂに接続され
る。各ＣＰＵは、いずれかのディスク制御装置を介して
、任意の磁気ディスク装置にアクセスすることができる
。
ディスク制御装置３ａと３ｂは、更新シリンダ管理テー
ブル以外の制御情報を保持するそれぞれの制御メモリ（
図示省略）を持ち、更に、更新シリンダ管理テーブルを
保持する不揮発性制御メモリ７ａを共有する。ディスク
制御装置ｉ３ａ、３ｂのどちらも、磁気ディスク装置１
１０ａ、１０ｂ。
１０ｃ、・・・のどれかにデータを書込んだ時に、制御
メモリ７ａにアクセスして、更新シリンダ管理テーブル
の対応する更、新Ａフィールド及び必要に応じて更新Ｂ
フィールドに、′１”を書込む。したがって、ディスク
制御装［３ａ、３ｂのどちらを介してダンプ処理が実行
されても、更新されたすべてのシリンダからデータをダ
ンプすることができる。
更新シリンダ管理データは、種々の形式をとることがき
る。例えば、第２図に示されたテーブルにおいて、各シ
リンダ番号とそれに対応する更新Ａフィールド及び更新
Ｂフィールドのアドレスが一定の関係にあれば、シリン
ダ番号フィールド２１は省略できる。あるいは、テーブ
ル形式を用いずに、更新が行なわれたシリンダの番号自
体を、制御メモリに書込んでもよい。また、ダンプの要
否の管理は、シリンダ以外の適当な領域、例えばトラッ
ク、セクタ、又はレコードを単位として行なわれてもよ
い。
前述の実施例においてＣＰＵＩにより行なわれる処理の
一部は、チャネルによって行なわれてもよく、あるいは
、入出力処理装置を有するシステムでは、その入出力処
理装置によって行なわれてもよい、また、制御メモリ７
又は７ａとして、それ自体で不揮発性のメモリ、例えば
磁気薄膜メモリ又は磁気バブルメモリを用いれば、無停
電電源８は省略できる。
前述の実施例では、磁気ディスク上のデータが磁気テー
プにダンプされるが、本発明は、他の任意の外部記憶装
置（例えば書替え可能な光デイスク記憶装置）から他の
任意の記憶媒体（例えばフロッピーディスク）へのダン
プにも適用できる。
〔発明の効果〕
本発明によれば、更新されたデータ部分のみをダンプす
るダンプ処理を、平常のデータ処理を停止することなく
行なうことができ、したがって、ダンプ処理に要する時
間と、バックアップデータを保持するための記憶媒体の
量との節約に加えて、データ処理システムの可用性の著
しい改善を達成することができる。
更に、本発明の他の特徴によれば、ダンプ処理の中止又
は停電による更新管理情報の誤った消去又は不慮の消失
が防止され、その結果、−層確実なバックアップを行な
うことができる。

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 １、第１外部記憶装置と、第２外部記憶装置と、前記第
    １外部記憶装置におけるデータ更新に関する情報を格納
    するための制御記憶装置とを備えたデータ処理システム
    において、前記第１外部記憶装置中の更新されたデータ
    部分を前記制御記憶装置の内容を参照して前記第２外部
    記憶装置にバックアップデータとして複写するダンプ処
    理を、平常のデータ処理を並行して行なうための、 データ更新が行なわれた前記第１外部記憶装置中の領域
    を識別する第１識別情報を前記制御記憶装置に格納する
    ステップと、 前記ダンプ処理の間にデータ更新が行なわれた前記第１
    外部記憶装置中の領域を識別する第２識別情報を前記制
    御記憶装置に格納するステップと、 前記第２識別情報により識別されるのと同じ領域を識別
    する部分以外の前記第１識別情報を前記ダンプ処理の完
    了時に消去するステップと、を有するダンプ制御方法。 ２、請求項１において、前記第２識別情報格納ステップ
    は、少なくとも前記ダンプ処理の間において前記第１識
    別情報が格納されるたびにそれにより識別されるのと同
    じ領域を識別する他の識別情報を前記制御記憶装置に格
    納するステップと、前記ダンプ処理の開始時に前記他の
    識別情報が消去されていることを確実にするステップと
    を含み、それにより、前記ダンプ処理の完了時に存在す
    る前記他の識別情報が前記第２識別情報を形成するダン
    プ制御方法。 ３、請求項２において、前記第１識別情報と前記他の識
    別情報は、データ更新が行なわれた前記第１外部記憶装
    置中の領域に対応する前記制御記憶装置中の格納位置に
    おけるそれぞれ第１及び第２ビットの特定の値であるダ
    ンプ制御方法。 ４、請求項１、２又は３において、前記消去ステップは
    、前記第１及び第２外部記憶装置の上位装置から前記ダ
    ンプ処理の完了の確認後に発行される指令に従つて実行
    されるダンプ制御方法。 ５、第１外部記憶装置と、第２外部記憶装置とを有する
    データ処理システムにおいて、前記第１外部記憶装置中
    の更新されたデータ部分を前記第２外部記憶装置にバッ
    クアップデータとして複写するダンプ処理を、平常のデ
    ータ処理と並行して行なうための、 前記第１外部記憶装置におけるデータ更新に関する情報
    を格納するための制御記憶装置と、データ更新が行なわ
    れた前記第１外部記憶装置中の領域を識別する第１識別
    情報と前記ダンプ処理の間にデータ更新が行なわれた前
    記第１外部記憶装置中の領域を識別する第２識別情報と
    を前記制御記憶装置に書込む手段と、 前記ダンプ処理の完了時に前記第２識別情報により識別
    されるのと同じ領域を識別する部分以外の前記第１識別
    情報を消去する手段と、を有するダンプ制御装置。 ６、請求項５において、前記制御記憶装置は不揮発性で
    あるダンプ制御装置。 ７、請求項５又は６において、前記制御記憶装置は、前
    記第１外部記憶装置中の領域にそれぞれ対応する複数の
    格納位置を有し、前記格納位置のそれぞれは、前記第１
    識別情報のための１ビットを格納する部分と前記第２識
    別情報のための１ビットを格納する部分とを含むダンプ
    制御装置。 ８、請求項５、６又は７において、前記消去手段は、前
    記第１及び第２外部記憶装置の上位装置から前記ダンプ
    処理の完了の確認後に発行される指令に従つて動作する
    ダンプ制御装置。 ９、請求項５、６、７又は８において、前記第１外部記
    憶装置は複数の制御装置に接続され、これらの制御装置
    は前記制御記憶装置を共有し、かつ、各自の前記書込手
    段と消去手段を有するダンプ制御装置。
