Description
まず、リニア電源(特に過電流保護回路)の新規な実施形態の説明に先立ち、これと対比される比較例について、簡単に説明しておく。
図3及び図4は、それぞれ、比較例における制限電流値IOCPの温度特性(平坦な温度特性を持つ第1パターン、及び、負の温度特性を持つ第2パターン)を示す図である。なお、図中の破線は、制限電流値IOCPのばらつきΔIOCPを示している。
図6は、リニア電源の第1実施形態を示す図である。本実施形態のリニア電源1において、過電流保護回路100は、チップ温度Tjに応じて制限電流値IOCPの温度特性を適切に切り替える機能を備えている。
図8は、リニア電源の第2実施形態を示す図である。本実施形態のリニア電源1において、過電流保護回路100は、電流検出部110と、アンプ(またはコンパレータ)120と、を含む。
図10は、リニア電源の第3実施形態を示す図である。本実施形態のリニア電源1において、過電流保護回路100は、先出の電流検出部110と、アンプ(またはコンパレータ)121及び122と、を含む。
図11は、リニア電源の第4実施形態を示す図である。本実施形態のリニア電源1において、過電流保護回路100は、電流検出部111及び112とアンプ(コンパレータ)123と、を含む。
図13は、リニア電源の第5実施形態を示す図である。本実施形態のリニア電源1において、過電流保護回路100は、先出の電流検出部111及び112と、アンプ(またはコンパレータ)124及び125と、を含む。
図14は、第6実施形態における制限電流値IOCPの温度特性を示す図である。本実施形態において、過電流保護回路100は、チップ温度Tjが閾値Txよりも低いときには、制限電流値IOCPを平坦な温度特性を持つ制限電流値IOCP1とし、チップ温度Tjが閾値Txよりも高いときには、制限電流値IOCPを平坦な温度特性を持ちかつ制限電流値IOCP1よりも低い制限電流値IOCP2とする。
図15は、リニア電源の第7実施形態を示す図である。本実施形態のリニア電源において、過電流保護回路100は、先出の第2実施形態(図8)を具体化したものであり、電流検出部110及びアンプ(またはコンパレータ)120に加えて、基準信号生成部131及び132と、PMOSFET140を含む。
図16は、リニア電源の第8実施形態を示す図である。本実施形態のリニア電源において、過電流保護回路100は、先出の第3実施形態(図10)を具体化したものであり、電流検出部110及びアンプ(またはコンパレータ)121及び122に加えて、基準信号生成部131及び132と、PMOSFET141及び142を含む。
なお、上記の実施形態では、一貫してリニア電源への適用例を挙げたが、過電流保護回路の適用対象はこれに限定されるものではなく、他形式の電源(スイッチング電源など)やスイッチ回路など、過電流保護機能を必要とする全ての回路に幅広く適用することが可能であることは言うまでもない。

Claims (8)
- 監視対象電流を制限電流値以下に制限する過電流保護回路であって、温度が閾値よりも低いときには前記制限電流値に平坦な温度特性を持たせ、前記温度が前記閾値よりも高いときには前記制限電流値に負の温度特性を持たせるものであり、
前記監視対象電流を検出して平坦な温度特性を持つ検出信号を生成する電流検出部と;
前記検出信号の入力を受け付ける第1入力端、平坦な温度特性を持つ第1基準信号の入力を受け付ける第2入力端、及び、負の温度特性を持つ第2基準信号の入力を受け付ける第3入力端を備え、前記第1基準信号及び前記第2基準信号の一方と前記検出信号との差分または比較結果に応じて過電流保護信号を生成するアンプまたはコンパレータと;
を有する、過電流保護回路。 - 監視対象電流を制限電流値以下に制限する過電流保護回路であって、温度が閾値よりも低いときには前記制限電流値に平坦な温度特性を持たせ、前記温度が前記閾値よりも高いときには前記制限電流値に負の温度特性を持たせるものであり、
前記監視対象電流を検出して平坦な温度特性を持つ検出信号を生成する電流検出部と;
平坦な温度特性を持つ第1基準信号と前記検出信号との差分または比較結果に応じて第1過電流保護信号を生成する第1アンプまたは第1コンパレータと;
負の温度特性を持つ第2基準信号と前記検出信号との差分または比較結果に応じて第2過電流保護信号を生成する第2アンプまたは第2コンパレータと;
を有する、過電流保護回路。 - 前記第1アンプまたは前記第1コンパレータは、前記第2アンプまたは前記第2コンパレータよりも消費電流が小さく、かつ、前記第2アンプまたは前記第2コンパレータは、前記第1アンプまたは前記第1コンパレータよりも応答性が高い、請求項2に記載の過電流保護回路。
- バンドギャップ電圧を用いて前記第1基準信号を生成する第1基準信号生成部を有する、請求項1~3のいずれか一項に記載の過電流保護回路。
- ダイオードの順方向降下電圧を用いて前記第2基準信号を生成する第2基準信号生成部を有する、請求項1~4のいずれか一項に記載の過電流保護回路。
- 前記電流検出部は、前記監視対象電流に応じたミラー電流をセンス抵抗に流して電流/電圧変換することにより前記検出信号を生成する、請求項1~5のいずれか一項に記載の過電流保護回路。
- 監視対象電流を制限電流値以下に制限する過電流保護回路であって、温度が閾値よりも低いときには前記制限電流値に平坦な温度特性を持たせ、前記温度が前記閾値よりも高いときには前記制限電流値に負の温度特性を持たせるものであり、
前記監視対象電流を検出して平坦な温度特性を持つ第1検出信号を生成する第1電流検出部と;
前記監視対象電流を検出して正の温度特性を持つ第2検出信号を生成する第2電流検出部と;
前記第1検出信号の入力を受け付ける第1入力端、前記第2検出信号の入力を受け付ける第2入力端、及び、平坦な温度特性を持つ基準信号の入力を受け付ける第3入力端を備え、前記第1検出信号及び前記第2検出信号の一方と前記基準信号との差分または比較結果に応じて過電流保護信号を生成するアンプまたはコンパレータと;
を有する、過電流保護回路。 - 監視対象電流を制限電流値以下に制限する過電流保護回路であって、温度が閾値よりも低いときには前記制限電流値に平坦な温度特性を持たせ、前記温度が前記閾値よりも高いときには前記制限電流値に負の温度特性を持たせるものであり、
前記監視対象電流を検出して平坦な温度特性を持つ第1検出信号を生成する第1電流検出部と;
前記監視対象電流を検出して正の温度特性を持つ第2検出信号を生成する第2電流検出部と;
平坦な温度特性を持つ基準信号と前記第1検出信号との差分または比較結果に応じて第1過電流保護信号を生成する第1アンプまたは第1コンパレータと;
前記基準信号と前記第2検出信号との差分または比較結果に応じて第2過電流保護信号を生成する第2アンプまたは第2コンパレータと;
を有する、過電流保護回路。
