Description
図1は、第1実施形態である駆動回路1000を含む電気光学装置1のブロック図である。電気光学装置1は、電気光学パネル10と、電気光学パネル10を駆動する駆動回路1000と、駆動回路1000の制御を行う外部装置2000とを具備する。以下説明する例において、外部装置2000は、駆動回路1000に画像データを供給するホスト装置としての機能と、駆動回路1000に制御信号を供給する制御装置としての機能を併せ持つ。しかし、外部装置2000は、ホスト装置としての機能のみを有する装置であってもよく、制御装置としての機能のみを有する装置であってもよい。電気光学装置1は、電気エネルギーにより光学特性が変化する電気光学物質を用いる装置である。電気光学物質としては、液晶、有機エレクトロルミネッセンス、電気泳動素子に用いられる帯電物質等が該当する。本実施形態では、電気光学物質として液晶を用いた電気光学パネルについて述べる。
図6は第2実施形態である駆動回路1000Aの構成を示すブロック図である。上記第1実施形態では、制御回路500に、状態信号生成回路510と、戻り信号生成回路520と、出力回路530とが設けられた。これに対し、本実施形態では、走査線駆動回路100に、状態信号生成回路510Vと、戻り信号生成回路520Vと、出力回路530Vとが設けられ、データ線駆動回路200に、状態信号生成回路510Hと、戻り信号生成回路520Hと、出力回路530Hとが設けられる。
以上、第1及び第2実施形態について説明したが、他にも実施形態があり得る。例えば次の通りである。
以上の各形態に例示した電気光学装置1は、各種の電子機器に利用され得る。図7から図10には、電気光学装置1を採用した電子機器の具体的な形態が例示されている。
Claims (9)
- 電気光学パネルを駆動する駆動回路であって、
外部装置に接続された入力端子および出力端子と、
前記外部装置から前記入力端子を介して入力される同期信号を用いて、前記電気光学パネルを駆動する駆動信号を生成する駆動信号生成回路と、
前記駆動信号生成回路の動作状態を示す状態信号を生成する状態信号生成回路と、
前記同期信号に前記状態信号を重畳した戻り信号を生成する戻り信号生成回路と、
前記出力端子から前記外部装置へ前記戻り信号を出力する出力回路と、
を備え、
前記動作状態は、動作が正常であること示す正常状態と、異常であることを示す異常状態とを含み、前記状態信号は前記異常状態における異常の内容を示し、
前記戻り信号において前記状態信号を重畳する期間は、前記状態信号の種類により異なる駆動回路。 - 前記戻り信号生成回路は、前記同期信号のパルスから所定時間が経過後の期間に前記状態信号を重畳して前記戻り信号を生成することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の駆動回路。
- 前記駆動信号生成回路には、前記電気光学パネルに表示すべき画像を示す画像データ、電源電圧、及び前記駆動信号を生成するために用いる制御信号が供給され、
前記異常の内容は、前記画像データに伝送エラーがあること、前記電源電圧に異常があること、及び前記制御信号に異常があることのうち、少なくなくも1つを含む、
ことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の駆動回路。 - 前記駆動信号生成回路には、前記電気光学パネルに表示すべき画像を示す画像データ及び前記駆動信号を生成するために用いる制御信号が供給され、
前記外部装置は、前記画像データを生成するホスト装置又は、前記制御信号を生成する制御装置である、
ことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の駆動回路。 - 前記電気光学パネルは、第1の走査線及び第2の走査線を含み、
前記駆動信号生成回路は、前記第1の走査線及び第2の走査線を駆動する走査線駆動回路を備え、
前記同期信号は、前記走査線駆動回路に対し、1垂直走査に1個発信される垂直スタートパルス信号である、
ことを特徴とする請求項1から4までのうち何れか1項に記載の駆動回路。 - 前記電気光学パネルは、第1のデータ線及び第2のデータ線を含み、
前記駆動信号生成回路は、前記第1及び第2のデータ線を駆動するデータ線駆動回路を備え、
前記同期信号は、前記データ線駆動回路に対し、1水平走査に1個発信される水平スタートパルス信号である、
ことを特徴とする請求項1から4までのうち何れか1項に記載の駆動回路。 - 請求項1から6までのうち、いずれか1項に記載の駆動回路と、
前記駆動信号に基づいて駆動される電気光学パネルと、
を備える電気光学装置。 - 請求項7に記載の電気光学装置を備える電子機器。
- 請求項8に記載の電子機器を備える移動体。
