光を発生する光源と、
前記光源からの光を受け、第1の偏光と第2の偏光に分岐する偏光ビームスプリッタと、
前記偏光ビームスプリッタで分岐された前記第1の偏光と前記第2の偏光を受けるように配置され、複数の制御電極を有する液晶素子と、
前記液晶素子に入射する前記第1の偏光と前記第2の偏光の一方の光軸上に配置され、前記第1の偏光と前記第2の偏光の偏光軸方向を揃える位相差板と、
前記液晶素子から出射する光を受けるように配置された偏光板と、
を備え、前記液晶素子の各制御電極に対応する照明領域を遮光制御できる車両用前照灯
が提供される。

WG ワイヤーグリッド、 SUB 透明基板、 100 車両用前照灯、

108 車載カメラ、 110 レーダ、 112 車速センサ、
114 舵角センサ、 116 GPSナビゲーション、
118 ハイビーム/ロービームスイッチ、 120 ドライバ、
200 前照灯システム、 210 投影レンズ、 211 支持基板、 212 LED。
ワイヤーグリッド偏光板13を透過した、ワイヤーグリッド偏光板13のストライプ状ワイヤーグリッドWGの延在方向と直交する方向に電気ベクトルを有する直線偏光成分は、第1の(1/4)λ位相差板15aを透過して、円偏光に変化し、リフレクタ17aで反射され、第2の(1/4)λ位相差板15bを透過して、円偏光から(ワイヤーグリッド偏光板13を透過した直線偏光と位相が90度異なる)直線偏光に変化して(ワイヤーグリッド偏光板13で反射された直線偏光と同等の偏光軸を有する直線偏光となって)、補助的偏光板19を透過して液晶素子18に入射する。
リフレクタ17aは3次元的曲面を有する反射面であり、直線偏光が入射する場合、反射光の偏光軸は反射曲面の方向に応じて種々の方向を持ち得る。(1/2)λ位相差版を透過させて偏光軸を90度回転させても、ワイヤーグリッド偏光板13で反射した直線偏光の偏光軸からずれた偏光軸方向になりうる。液晶素子18の前に、補助的偏光板を配置すれば、液晶素子内の2種類の入射光の偏光軸は揃えられるが、損失は生じうる。円偏光は、3次元曲面で反射しても、円偏光を保ち、特性に変化は生じない。リフレクタ17aによる反射の前後に、(1/4)λ位相差板15a、(1/4)λ位相差板15bを配置すれば、円偏光として曲面における反射を行うので、特性の変化は生ぜず、トータルとして偏光軸を90度回転させることができる。
Claims (4)
- 光を発生する光源と、
前記光源からの光を受け、第1の偏光と第2の偏光に分岐する偏光ビームスプリッタと、
前記偏光ビームスプリッタで分岐された前記第1の偏光と前記第2の偏光を受けるように配置され、複数の制御電極を有する液晶素子と、
前記液晶素子に入射する前記第1の偏光と前記第2の偏光の一方の光軸上に配置され、前記第1の偏光と前記第2の偏光の偏光軸方向を揃える位相差板と、
前記液晶素子から出射する光を受けるように配置された出力側偏光板と、
を備え、前記液晶素子の各制御電極に対応する照明領域を遮光制御できる車両用前照灯であって、
前記偏光ビームスプリッタは、入射光を受けると、前記第1の偏光を反射する反射面と、前記第2の偏光を透過する透過面とを有するワイヤーグリッド偏光板であり、
前記偏光ビームスプリッタの反射面から反射する第1の偏光は前記液晶素子に向けられ、更に
前記偏光ビームスプリッタの透過面から出射した前記第2の偏光を受け、前記液晶素子に向けて反射する位置および向きに配置されたリフレクタを備え、
前記位相差板は、前記偏光ビームスプリッタの透過面と前記リフレクタとの間、および前記リフレクタと前記液晶素子との間に配置された(1/4)λ位相差板である車両用前照灯。 - 前記リフレクタが3次元反射曲面を有する請求項1に記載の車両用前照灯。
- 前記液晶素子の、前記出力側偏光板に対して逆側の位置に配置された偏光板を更に備える請求項1〜2のいずれか1項に記載の車両用前照灯。
- 前記第1の偏光と前記第2の偏光が、前記液晶素子に入射するまでに受ける反射は、同一回数で、光進行方向に関して同じ向きである、請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載の車両用前照灯。
