Description
タッチ検出デバイス30は、静電容量型タッチ検出の基本原理に基づいて動作し、タッチ検出信号Vdetを出力する。図1〜図6を参照して、本実施形態のタッチ検出機能付き表示装置1におけるタッチ検出の基本原理について説明する。図2は、静電容量型タッチ検出の基本原理を説明するため、指が接触または近接していない状態を表す説明図である。図3は、図2に示す指が接触または近接していない状態の等価回路の例を示す説明図である。図4は、静電容量型タッチ検出方式の基本原理を説明するため、指が接触または近接した状態を表す説明図である。図5は、図4に示す指が接触または近接した状態の等価回路の例を示す説明図である。図6は、駆動信号及びタッチ検出信号の波形の一例を表す図である。以下の説明では、指で説明するが近接する物体は、指に限られず、ペン型用具などでもよい。
図7は、本実施形態に係るタッチ検出機能付き表示装置を実装したモジュールの一例を示す図である。図7に示すように、タッチ検出機能付き表示装置1は、後述する画素基板2(透光性基板21)と、フレキシブルプリント基板Tとを備えている。画素基板2は、COG(Chip On Glass)19を搭載し、上述した液晶表示デバイス20の表示領域Adと、額縁Gdとが形成されている。COG19は、画素基板2に実装されたドライバICのチップであり、図1に示した制御部11、ソースドライバ13など、表示動作に必要な各回路を内蔵した制御装置である。本実施形態では、上述したソースドライバ13及びソースセレクタ部13Sは、画素基板2上に形成されている。ソースドライバ13及びソースセレクタ部13Sは、COG19に内蔵されていてもよい。また、駆動電極ドライバ14は、COG19に内蔵されている。また、ゲートドライバ12は、ゲートドライバ12A、12Bとして、画素基板2に形成されている。
次に、タッチ検出機能付き表示デバイス10の構成例を詳細に説明する。図8は、本実施形態に係るタッチ検出機能付き表示デバイスの概略断面構造を表す断面図である。図9は、本実施形態に係るタッチ検出機能付き表示装置の制御装置の一例を示す図である。図10は、本実施形態に係るタッチ検出機能付き表示デバイスの画素配列を表す回路図である。
画素基板2は、透光性基板21上に、表示領域Adと、インターフェース(I/F)及びタイミングジェネレータの機能を備えるCOG19と、第1ゲートドライバ12A、第2ゲートドライバ12B及びソースドライバ13とを備えている。上述した図7に示すフレキシブルプリント基板Tは、図7及び図9に示すCOG19への外部信号またはCOG19を駆動する駆動電力を伝送する。画素基板2は、透明絶縁基板(例えばガラス基板)の透光性基板21の表面にあり、液晶セルを含む画素がマトリクス状(行列状)に多数配置されてなる表示領域Adと、ソースドライバ(水平駆動回路)13と、ゲートドライバ(垂直駆動回路)12A、12Bと、を備えている。ゲートドライバ(垂直駆動回路)12A、12Bは、第1ゲートドライバ12A、第2ゲートドライバ12Bとして、表示領域Adを挟むように配置されている。
図16は、本実施形態に係る画素と補助配線との位置関係を説明するための説明図である。図17及び図18は、本実施形態に係る駆動電極と、駆動電極片と、スリットと、補助配線との関係を説明するための説明図である。
次に、図23、図24及び図25を参照して、本実施形態で説明したタッチ検出機能付き表示装置1の適用例について説明する。図23、図24及び図25は、本実施形態に係るタッチ検出機能付き液晶表示装置を適用する電子機器の一例を示す図である。本実施形態に係るタッチ検出機能付き表示装置1は、テレビジョン装置、図23及び図24で示すデジタルカメラ、ノート型パーソナルコンピュータ、携帯電話等の携帯端末装置、図25に示すカーナビゲーションシステム等の車載電子機器あるいはビデオカメラなどのあらゆる分野の電子機器に適用することが可能である。言い換えると、本実施形態に係るタッチ検出機能付き表示装置1は、外部から入力された映像信号あるいは内部で生成した映像信号を、画像あるいは映像として表示するあらゆる分野の電子機器に適用することが可能である。電子機器は、液晶表示装置に映像信号を供給し、液晶表示装置の動作を制御する制御装置を備える。

Claims (7)
- 複数の行及び複数の列を含むマトリクス状に配置された複数の画素を有し、1つの前記画素が互いに異なる色を表示する複数の副画素を備え、前記複数の副画素がk行1列(kは3以上の自然数)で並び、かつ行方向に隣接する任意の画素において、同じ色を表示する任意の副画素同士が行方向に沿って並ぶ、表示領域と、
前記表示領域に画像を表示する画像表示機能を有する表示機能層と、
前記副画素のそれぞれに設けられ、基準となる共通電位との電位差で前記表示機能層に印加電圧を付与する画素電極と、
前記表示領域の行方向に延び、前記副画素のスイッチング素子を走査する複数の走査線と、
前記表示領域の列方向に延び、前記画素電極に印加電圧を供給する複数の信号線と、
前記画素電極と対向して設けられ、前記行方向に延びる複数の駆動電極と、
前記駆動電極の材料よりも電気抵抗の小さい金属材料の配線であって、前記画素の1行毎に前記行方向に延びるように配置され、前記走査線と同じ層に配置され、前記駆動電極と電気的に接続される補助配線と、
画像信号に基づいて、前記駆動電極に前記共通電位を印加して前記表示機能層の画像表示機能を発揮させるように画像表示制御を行うとともに、タッチ用駆動信号を前記駆動電極に供給するようにタッチ検出制御を行う制御装置と、
前記駆動電極と対向して、前記駆動電極との間に静電容量を形成するタッチ検出電極と、
前記タッチ検出電極からの検出信号に基づき、近接する物体の位置を検出するタッチ検出部と、を備える、タッチ検出機能付き表示装置。 - 前記駆動電極は、前記表示領域の列方向に隣り合う前記画素の境界領域に前記表示領域の行方向に延びるスリットを有している、請求項1に記載のタッチ検出機能付き表示装置。
- 前記スリットに隣接する前記走査線は、画素基板の垂直方向において、前記駆動電極に重なり合う、請求項2に記載のタッチ検出機能付き表示装置。
- 前記補助配線は、画素基板の垂直方向において、前記駆動電極に重なり合う、請求項1から3のいずれか1項に記載のタッチ検出機能付き表示装置。
- 1つの前記画素における前記表示領域の列方向の駆動電極の幅は、1つの前記画素における前記補助配線と前記走査線との前記表示領域の列方向の最大距離よりも大きい、請求項3又は4に記載のタッチ検出機能付き表示装置。
- 前記補助配線は、前記表示領域の行方向に並ぶ複数の画素それぞれに配置されたスルーホールを介して、前記駆動電極と電気的に接続する、請求項1から5のいずれか1項に記載のタッチ検出機能付き表示装置。
- 請求項1から6のいずれか1項に記載のタッチ検出機能付き表示装置を備える電子機器。
