Description
[1]液晶表示装置の全体構成
図1は、本発明の第1実施形態に係る液晶表示装置10のブロック図である。液晶表示装置10は、表示パネル11、バックライト(照明装置)12、タッチパネル13、走査ドライバ(走査線駆動回路)14、信号ドライバ(信号線駆動回路)15、共通電圧供給回路16、電圧発生回路17、及び制御回路18を備える。
次に、表示パネル11に含まれる画素アレイの構成について説明する。図3は、画素アレイの回路図である。図3では、4つの画素20を抽出して示している。
次に、表示パネル11の構成について説明する。図4は、表示パネル11の平面図である。図5は、蓄積電極40の平面図である。図6は、図4のA−A´線に沿った表示パネル11の断面図である。図7は、図4のB−B´線に沿った表示パネル11の断面図である。
上記のように構成された液晶表示装置10の動作について説明する。画像表示を行う場合、制御回路18は、画素電極42、及び共通電極47の電圧を制御することで、液晶層33に印加する電界を制御する。画素電極42及び共通電極47の電圧が概略同じ場合がオフ状態、画素電極42及び共通電極47の一方が正電圧、他方が0Vである場合がオン状態である。
次に、比較例に係る表示パネルの構成について説明する。図8は、比較例に係る表示パネルの平面図である。
以上詳述したように第1実施形態では、表示パネル11は、垂直配向(VA)モードを有する。また、表示パネル11の各画素20は、画素20の長辺方向(Y方向)に並んだ画素電極42−1、42−2と、画素電極42−1、42−2の下方のレイヤーに配置されかつY方向に延びる電極38と、画素電極42−1、42−2と電極38とを接続するコンタクト部43−1、43−2とを備える。
第2実施形態は、第1実施形態の突起48に代えて、共通電極47に形成した開口部を用いて液晶の配向を制御する実施例である。
図14は、第3実施形態に係る表示パネル11の断面図である。第3実施形態に係る表示パネル11の平面図は、図4及び図5と同じであり、図14は、図4のA−A´線に対応する断面図である。
Claims (7)
- 対向配置された第1及び第2基板と、
前記第1及び第2基板間に挟まれ、垂直配向(VA)モードを有する液晶層と、
前記第1基板に設けられ、第1方向に延びる第1電極と、
1つの画素領域内かつ前記第1電極の上方に絶縁層を介して設けられ、前記第1方向に並ぶ第1及び第2画素電極と、
前記第1電極と前記第1画素電極とを接続する第1コンタクト部と、
前記第1電極と前記第2画素電極とを接続する第2コンタクト部と、
前記第1電極と前記第1画素電極との間、かつ前記第1画素電極と前記第2画素電極との間に設けられた蓄積電極と、
前記第2基板に設けられた共通電極と、
を具備し、
前記蓄積電極は、前記共通電極と同じ電圧が印加されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1基板に設けられたスイッチング素子をさらに具備し、
前記第1電極は、前記スイッチング素子に接続されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記蓄積電極は、隣接する画素の間にさらに配置されることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第2基板に設けられ、前記液晶層の配向を制御する突起をさらに具備し、
前記突起は、前記第1コンタクト部と重なるように配置されることを特徴とする請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記共通電極は、前記液晶層の配向を制御する開口部を有し、
前記開口部は、前記第1コンタクト部と重なるように配置されることを特徴とする請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1画素電極と前記第2画素電極との境界は、前記画素領域の中央に配置されることを特徴とする請求項1乃至5のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1電極は、透明電極からなることを特徴とする請求項1乃至6のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
