Description
ITO膜付きのガラス基板を一対用意し、それぞれフォトリソグラフィ技術によってITO膜をパターン形成することにより第1電極、第2電極および第3電極を形成した。以降では便宜上、第1電極が形成されたガラス基板を「上基板」、第2電極および第3電極が形成されたガラス基板を「下基板」と呼ぶ。
液晶性材料として屈折率異方性Δnとネマティック−アイソトロピック転移温度が異なるネマティック液晶材料を用いた以外は上記した実施例1と同様の条件により実施例2の光学装置を作製した。具体的には、実施例2の光学装置の液晶性材料は、屈折率異方性Δnが0.298程度、ネマティック−アイソトロピック転移温度が130℃である。その結果、実施例1の光学装置と同様な動作を確認できた。
液晶性材料として屈折率異方性Δnとネマティック−アイソトロピック転移温度が異なるネマティック液晶材料を用いた以外は上記した実施例1と同様の条件により実施例3の光学装置を作製した。具体的には、実施例3の光学装置の液晶性材料は、屈折率異方性Δnが0.065程度、ネマティック−アイソトロピック転移温度が86℃である。その結果、実施例1の光学装置と同様な動作を確認できた。

Claims (3)
- 対向配置された第1基板及び第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板の間に設けられた隔壁と、
前記第1基板の一面側に設けられており、少なくとも一部が平面視において前記隔壁に囲まれた領域と重なる第1電極と、
前記第2基板の一面側に設けられており、各々が前記隔壁に囲まれた領域を挟んで前記第1電極と対向配置された第2電極及び第3電極と、
前記第2基板の一面側に設けられており、前記第2電極及び前記第3電極を覆う平滑層と、
前記第1基板の一面側に設けられており、前記第1電極と前記第3電極とが重なる領域に配置された遮光層と、
前記隔壁に囲まれた領域に配置されており、相溶しない第1流体及び第2流体、
を備え、
前記第1流体は極性又は導電性を有する液状体からなり、
前記第2流体は液晶性材料を含んだ液状体からなり、かつ二色性色素を含有する、
光学装置。 - 前記第2流体がカイラル材を含有する、請求項1に記載の光学装置。
- 請求項1又は2に記載の光学装置を用いて構成された表示装置。
