Description
図1は、タッチスクリーンディスプレイ上の仮想キーボードも示している。仮想キーボードでは、キーボード上の各キーが、タッチスクリーン上のソフトボタンとして実装される。ユーザが親指(または指、スタイラスペン、その他のオブジェクト)で、あるキーに触ると、デバイス110は接触を検知して、接触されたスクリーンの位置を判断して、その位置に関連付けられているキーを判断して、接触を、選択されたキーのキーストロークとして解釈する。一部の実施形態では、二度目の接触が登録されるには、一度目の接触の後で最低限の時間は指を離してから再度タッチする必要のあるヒステリシス効果が利用される。
「接触パッチ」とは、ユーザがキーまたはその他のアイコンに接触を試みる際に接触するタッチスクリーンの領域のことである。スタイラスペンを利用する際には、接触パッチは非常に小さく、その形状も輪郭がはっきりしたものになる(well-defined in shape)。ユーザの指先を接触させる場合には、接触パッチは、それよりいくらか大きくなり、そのサイズもユーザが指を押し付ける圧力に応じて変わることが想定できよう。接触パッチのサイズおよび形状は両方とも、指がタッチスクリーンに接触する角度に応じて変わると思われる。親指を接触させる場合には、同じような条件となるが、親指は概して断面積が大きいことからサイズが指先の場合よりも大きくなるであろうし、接触角度に応じた形状やサイズの変動も親指の場合には大きいと思われ、接触角度は他の指より親指は一般的に浅い。
2以上のキーが同時にユーザにより触れられると、デバイスは様々な技術を利用して、ユーザが接触しようとしたキーを判断することができる。一部の技術は性質上コンテキストベースであり、即座に行うことはできない。例えば一例では、デバイスが、複数の接触された文字を、単語の残りのものと比較して、どの文字が実際の単語を形成するかを、綴りの辞書を参照して判断する。2以上の可能性ある文字で実際に存在する単語が形成される場合には、その文脈を調べて、どの単語が意図された可能性が高いかを調べ、そして意図された文字を判断する。
Claims (21)
- 層状に配置された弧形状の第1の行のキーと弧形状の第2の行のキーとを含む仮想キーボードを有するタッチスクリーンを有するハンドヘルド電子デバイスを備え、
前記ハンドヘルド電子デバイスは、前記仮想キーボードについてキーボード較正処理を実行し、
前記キーボード較正処理は、
ユーザに片手の親指を前記タッチスクリーンの上に較正用の弧を描くように促す処理と、
前記タッチスクリーン上に描かれた第1の較正用の弧を検知し、前記第1の較正用の弧の位置を記録する処理と、
検知された前記第1の較正用の弧上の複数の位置における指紋の幅を特定する処理と、
特定された前記指紋の幅に基づいて前記仮想キーボードのキー間の間隔を設定する処理と、
前記第1の較正用の弧の記録された前記位置に沿って、前記仮想キーボードの少なくとも前記第1の行のキーを生成する処理とを含み、
前記第1の行のキーを生成する処理は、前記第1の行の前記キー間を設定された前記間隔で提供することを含む、装置。 - 前記第1の較正用の弧を検知する処理は、前記第1の較正用の弧に対して可変曲率を検知することを含み、
前記仮想キーボードの前記第1の行のキーを生成する処理は、前記可変曲率を用いて前記第1の行のキーを生成することを含む、請求項1に記載の装置。 - 前記キーボード較正処理は、前記第1の較正用の弧が前記タッチスクリーン上に描かれた後に、前記タッチスクリーン上に見える弧として前記第1の較正用の弧を表示することをさらに含む、請求項1または請求項2に記載の装置。
- 前記仮想キーボードは、前記ユーザが両手で前記デバイスを掴んだ際に、前記ユーザの片手の親指での使用のために配置された前記第1の行のキーと前記第2の行のキーとを少なくとも含む第1の部分と、前記ユーザの他方の手の親指での使用のために配置された弧形状の第3の行のキーを少なくとも含む第2の部分とを有し、
前記キーボード較正処理を実行することは、前記仮想キーボードの前記第1の部分および前記第2の部分を較正することを含み、
前記ユーザに前記較正用の弧を描くように促す処理は、前記仮想キーボードの前記第1の部分および前記第2の部分について別個の弧を描くように前記ユーザに促すことを含む、請求項1から請求項3のいずれか1つに記載の装置。 - a)前記第1の行のキーと前記第2の行のキーとの間の距離、b)1行内で隣接するキーの間の距離、および、c)各キーに割り当てられている文字のリストから選択された少なくとも1つがユーザの動作によりプログラム可能である請求項1から請求項4のいずれか1つに記載の装置。
- 前記タッチスクリーン上のキーの表示は、前記キーが接触されて起動されると、前記ユーザに見える位置に移動される請求項1から請求項5のいずれか1つに記載の装置。
- 前記キーボード較正処理は更に、前記第1の行のキーとの関連で前記第2の行のキーを生成する処理を含む請求項1から請求項6のいずれか1つに記載の装置。
- デバイスの仮想キーボードについて較正モードを開始する段階と、
ユーザに片手の親指をタッチスクリーンの上に較正用の弧を描くように促す段階と、
タッチスクリーン上に描かれた第1の較正用の弧を検知し、前記第1の較正用の弧の位置を記録する段階と、
検知された前記第1の較正用の弧上の複数の位置における指紋の幅を特定する処理と、
特定された前記指紋の幅に基づいて前記仮想キーボードのキー間の間隔を設定する処理と、
前記第1の較正用の弧の記録された前記位置に沿って、前記仮想キーボードの第1の行のソフトキーを生成する段階と
を備え、
前記第1の行のソフトキーを生成する処理は、前記第1の行のソフトキー間を設定された前記間隔で提供することを含む、方法。 - 前記第1の較正用の弧を検知する段階は、前記第1の較正用の弧に対して可変曲率を検知する段階を含み、
前記仮想キーボードの前記第1の行のソフトキーを生成する処理は、前記可変曲率を用いて前記第1の行のソフトキーを生成することを含む、請求項8に記載の方法。 - 前記第1の較正用の弧が前記タッチスクリーン上に描かれた後に、前記タッチスクリーン上に見える弧として前記第1の較正用の弧を表示する段階をさらに含む、請求項8または請求項9に記載の方法。
- 前記第1の行のソフトキーに対して層状の関係を有するように第2の行のソフトキーを生成する段階を更に備える請求項8から請求項10のいずれか1つに記載の方法。
- 前記ユーザに前記タッチスクリーンの上に第2の較正用の弧を描くように促す段階と、
前記タッチスクリーン上に描かれた前記第2の較正用の弧を検知し、前記第2の較正用の弧の位置を記録する段階と、
前記第2の較正用の弧に沿って、前記仮想キーボードの第2の行のソフトキーを生成する段階と
を更に備える請求項8から請求項11のいずれか1つに記載の方法。 - 前記第1の較正用の弧および前記第2の較正用の弧は、互いに対して層状の関係を有する請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記第1の較正用の弧および前記第2の較正用の弧は、前記ユーザが異なる親指を利用して描き、
前記第1の較正用の弧および前記第2の較正用の弧は、互いに対して層状の関係を有さない請求項12に記載の方法。 - コンピュータに、
デバイスの仮想キーボードについての較正モードに入る処理と、
ユーザに片手の親指をタッチスクリーンの上に較正用の弧を描くように促す処理と、
前記ユーザによって前記タッチスクリーン上に描かれた第1の較正用の弧を検知し、前記第1の較正用の弧の位置を記録する処理と、
検知された前記第1の較正用の弧上の複数の位置における指紋の幅を特定する処理と、
特定された前記指紋の幅に基づいて前記仮想キーボードのキー間の間隔を設定する処理と、
前記第1の較正用の弧の記録された前記位置に沿って、前記仮想キーボードの第1の行のソフトキーを生成する処理と
を実行させ、
前記第1の行のソフトキーを生成する処理は、前記第1の行のソフトキー間を設定された前記間隔で提供することを含む、プログラム。 - 前記第1の較正用の弧を検知する処理は、前記第1の較正用の弧に対して可変曲率を検知する処理を含み、
前記仮想キーボードの前記第1の行のソフトキーを生成する処理は、前記可変曲率を用いて前記第1の行のソフトキーを生成することを含む、請求項15に記載のプログラム。 - 前記第1の較正用の弧が前記タッチスクリーン上に描かれた後に、前記タッチスクリーン上に見える弧として前記第1の較正用の弧を表示する段階をさらに前記コンピュータに実行させる、請求項15または請求項16に記載のプログラム。
- 前記第1の行のソフトキーに対して層状の関係を有するように第2の行のソフトキーを生成する処理を更に前記コンピュータに実行させる請求項15から請求項17のいずれか1つに記載のプログラム。
- 前記ユーザに前記タッチスクリーンの上に第2の較正用の弧を描くように促す段階と、
前記タッチスクリーン上に描かれた前記第2の較正用の弧を検知し、前記第2の較正用の弧の位置を記録する処理と、
前記第2の較正用の弧に沿って、前記仮想キーボードの第2の行のソフトキーを生成する処理と
を更に前記コンピュータに実行させる請求項15から請求項18のいずれか1つに記載のプログラム。 - 前記第1の較正用の弧および前記第2の較正用の弧は、互いに対して層状の関係を有する請求項19に記載のプログラム。
- 前記第1の較正用の弧および前記第2の較正用の弧は、前記ユーザが異なる親指を利用して描き、
前記第1の較正用の弧および前記第2の較正用の弧は、互いに対して層状の関係を有さない請求項19に記載のプログラム。
