Description
Claims (3)
- 液晶表示素子と、前記液晶表示素子をマルチプレックス駆動法で駆動する駆動装置とを有する液晶表示装置であって、
前記液晶表示素子は、
所定の間隔で対向して配置された第1の基板及び第2の基板からなる一対の基板と、
前記第1の基板の対向面側に短冊状に形成され、第1の方向に延在する複数本の第1の電極と、
前記第2の基板の対向面側に、前記第1の電極と交差するように短冊状に形成され、第2の方向に延在する複数本の第2の電極と、
前記一対の基板のいずれか一方又は両方の対向面側に形成される配向膜と、
前記一対の基板に挟持され、プレチルト角を有する垂直配向モードの液晶層と、
前記一対の基板を挟んで配置される一対のクロスニコル偏光板とを有し、
前記第1の電極と前記第2の電極とが交差して複数の画素を構成し、
前記配向膜は、前記液晶層の中央分子の配向方位が前記画素の前記第2の電極のエッジと直交しないように配向処理が施され、
前記液晶層の中央分子の配向方位は、前記第1の方向に対して、±5〜15°をなす方向であり、
前記第1の電極と前記第2の電極の間に電圧が印加されないとき、前記液晶層の液晶分子は、前記第1の基板及び前記第2の基板に対して略垂直に配向し、
フレーム周波数を105Hzとして、前記第1の電極と前記第2の電極の間に電圧を印加したとき、最良視認方位から観察した場合の表示状態は均一であり、反視認方位を中心に時計、反時計まわりで60°方位から観察した場合の表示状態の均一性は、前記最良視認方位から観察した場合より低く、かつ、前記画素の、前記第1の方向と平行な両エッジの近傍、及び、前記第2の方向と平行な一方エッジの近傍において、斜め電界の影響により、前記液晶層の中央分子が、前記画素の中央領域とは異なる方位に配向する線状領域が発現し、
前記線状領域には、前記第2の方向と平行な一方エッジの近傍において、電圧の印加、無印加によらず、前記液晶層の液晶分子が、前記第1の基板及び前記第2の基板に対して略垂直に配向するポイントディスクリネーションが形成され、前記ポイントディスクリネーションは、前記画素の、前記第1の方向と平行なエッジから、前記第2の方向と平行な方向に沿って25〜45μmの範囲に位置し、
前記駆動装置は、300Hz以下のフレーム周波数で、前記液晶表示素子を駆動することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1の電極と前記第2の電極とが直交し、
前記配向膜は、前記第1の電極の長手方向に対して±5〜15°の方向に配向処理が施されている請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第2の電極は、長手方向が、前記第1の電極の長手方向に対して90°±5°〜15°の方向となるように形成され、
前記配向膜は、前記第1の電極の長手方向と平行な方向に配向処理が施される請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
