Description
第1基板に配置され、隣接する第1画素電極及び第2画素電極と、
第2基板に配置され、前記第1画素電極及び前記第2画素電極に対向するとともに、前記第1画素電極と交差する第1切欠部及び前記第2画素電極と交差する第2切欠部が形成された対向電極と、
前記第1基板において前記第1画素電極と前記第2画素電極との間に配置され、前記対向電極の前記第1切欠部と前記第2切欠部との間の電極部に対向し、前記第2基板を支持する柱状スペーサと、
前記第1基板の前記第1画素電極及び前記第2画素電極と前記第2基板の前記対向電極との間に保持された負の誘電率異方性を有する液晶分子を含む液晶層と、
を備えたことを特徴とする液晶表示装置が提供される。
アレイ基板ARにおいて、27.5μmの画素ピッチで画素電極EPを配置する。また、このアレイ基板ARにおいて、画素電極EPの間に柱状スペーサSPを配置する。対向基板CTにおいて、液晶分子の配向を制御するために対向電極ETに15μmの幅の切欠部SLを形成する。行方向Hに隣接する切欠部SLの間には、11.5μmの幅で切欠部SLを繋ぐように電極部EDを形成する。

Claims (6)
- 第1基板に配置され、第1方向に隣接するとともにそれぞれ第1方向に直交する第2方向に延在した一対の長辺を有する第1画素電極及び第2画素電極と、
第2基板に配置され、前記第1画素電極及び前記第2画素電極に対向するとともに、前記第1画素電極を含む複数の画素電極と交差し第1方向に沿って延在した第1切欠部及び前記第2画素電極を含む複数の画素電極と交差し第1方向に沿って延在した第2切欠部が形成され、前記第1切欠部と前記第2切欠部との間の電極部を有する対向電極と、
前記第1基板において前記第1画素電極と前記第2画素電極との間に配置され、前記対向電極の前記電極部に対向し、その一部が前記第1切欠部及び前記第2切欠部のそれぞれに対向し、前記第2基板を支持する柱状スペーサと、
前記第1基板の前記第1画素電極及び前記第2画素電極と前記第2基板の前記対向電極との間に保持された負の誘電率異方性を有する液晶分子を含む液晶層と、
を備えたことを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記柱状スペーサと、前記第1切欠部及び前記第2切欠部とは、第1方向に沿った同一直線上に配置されたことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記柱状スペーサと、前記第1切欠部及び前記第2切欠部とは、前記長辺の中点を通る第1方向に沿った同一直線上に配置されたことを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- さらに、前記第2基板に配置され、前記対向電極の前記電極部と対向するとともに、第1方向に交差する第2方向に延在した遮光層を備えたことを特徴とする請求項1乃至3のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1切欠部は、前記第1画素電極及び前記第2画素電極とは反対側に延在し、前記遮光層と交差することを特徴とする請求項4に記載の液晶表示装置。
- さらに、前記第1基板と前記第2基板とを貼り合わせるループ状に配置されたシール材を備えたことを特徴とする請求項1乃至5のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
