Description
図1及び図2は、本発明の第1の形態に係る触媒装置を示している。なお、図2は、図1の触媒装置1Aを矢印II方向から見た図を示している。この触媒装置1Aは、排気ガス中の有害成分を浄化するために内燃機関の排気通路に設けられる。なお、図1に矢印Exで示すように排気ガスは、触媒装置1A内を図1の左側から右側に流れる。触媒装置1Aは、円筒状の触媒担体2と、触媒担体2を内部に収容する円筒状のケース3とを備えている。触媒担体2は、ケース3内に同軸に収容されている。触媒担体2は炭化ケイ素製であり、ケース3はステンレス等の金属製である。触媒担体2の内部の構造は内燃機関の排気通路に排気浄化用に設けられる周知の触媒と同様でよいため、詳細な説明は省略する。触媒担体2には、三元触媒、酸化触媒、又は吸蔵還元型NOx触媒等の排気浄化用の触媒が担持されている。触媒担体2は炭化ケイ素製であるため、電気を通す性質を有している。また、触媒担体2は、温度の上昇に伴って電気抵抗が低下するNTC(Negative temperature coefficient)特性を有している。触媒担体2の材料である炭化ケイ素はポーラスであるため、触媒担体2は吸水性を有する。
図4〜図6を参照して本発明の第2の形態に係る触媒装置1Bについて説明する。図5は図4の矢印V方向から見た触媒装置1Bを示し、図6は図4の範囲Bを拡大して示している。この形態において上述した第1の形態と共通の部分には同一の符号を付して説明を省略する。図4及び図5に示すようにこの形態では、触媒担体2と保持マット4との間に吸水層10が設けられている点が第1の形態と異なる。それ以外は、第1の形態と同じである。
次に図7〜図9を参照して本発明の第3の形態に係る触媒装置1Cについて説明する。図8は図7の矢印VIII方向から見た触媒装置1Cを示し、図9は図7の範囲Cを拡大して示している。この形態において上述した各形態と共通の部分には同一の符号を付して説明を省略する。図7及び図8に示すようにこの形態では、ケース3内に遮水部材としての遮水壁20が設けられている点が第2の形態と異なる。それ以外は第2の形態と同じである。
Claims (6)
- 通電により発熱する触媒担体と、前記触媒担体の外周を覆うように設けられた絶縁材料製の保持部材と、前記触媒担体を内部に収容し、前記保持部材を介して前記触媒担体を保持するケースと、を備え、前記ケース内を流れるガスを前記触媒担体に担持させた触媒で処理する電気加熱式触媒装置において、
前記保持部材は、吸水性を有しており、
前記ケースと前記保持部材との間には、ガラス成分を含む絶縁材料で形成され、かつ水分を吸収しないように設けられた絶縁層が設けられている電気加熱式触媒装置。 - 前記触媒担体と前記保持部材との間には、吸水性を有する材料で形成された吸水層が設けられている請求項1に記載の電気加熱式触媒装置。
- 前記吸水層は、前記保持部材よりも吸水性が高い請求項2に記載の電気加熱式触媒装置。
- 前記ケースには、ガスが通過する貫通孔を有し、かつ前記ケース内をガスの流れ方向上流側から見たときに前記保持部材が隠れるように前記触媒担体よりもガスの流れ方向上流側に配置された遮水部材が設けられている請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の電気加熱式触媒装置。
- 前記遮水部材は、吸水性を有する材料で形成されている請求項4に記載の電気加熱式触媒装置。
- 前記触媒担体は、炭化ケイ素製である請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の電気加熱式触媒装置。
