Description
成形原料としてコージェライト化原料を使用し、これらをニーダーにて混練して坏土を調製した。得られた坏土を、セル構造が四角形セル12mil/300cpsi(0.3048mm/46.5(セル/cm2))、セルピッチ1.47mmとなり、外径が354mmφより数mm大き目となるような口金を使用して、ハニカム状に押出成形した。次に、得られたハニカム状の成形体の両端面を交互に目封止し、乾燥・焼成してハニカム成形体を得た。
実施例1の場合と同様にして、セル構造が四角形セル17mil/100cpsi(0.4318mm/15.5(セル/cm2))、セルピッチ2.54mmであり、最外周の径が404mmφの研削ハニカム成形体を得た。その後、外周にコート材を塗布して、図11に示すような、406mmφ×432mmL(軸方向長さ)の外周コートハニカム成形体81を得た。その後、図12に示すように、外周コートハニカム成形体81の軸方向端面の外周部分を、研削砥石を使用してテーパ状に加工して、図5(a)、図5(b)に示すような両端面がテーパ状に形成されたハニカム構造体を得た。テーパ幅W(図6参照)は5mmであって、テーパ深さH(図6参照)は0.4mmであった。
実施例2の場合と同様にして、図11に示すような、実施例と同じサイズ、セル構造の外周コートハニカム成形体81を作製し、これを比較例1のハニカム構造体とした。
試験装置:ガスバーナースポーリング装置
加熱条件(1サイクル分):100℃(最低温度)から750℃(最高温度)までを10分かけて昇温し、750℃で10分保持し、750℃から100℃までを30分かけて冷却し、100℃で10分保持する。
加熱サイクル数:200サイクル
Claims (5)
- 流体の流路となり軸方向に貫通する複数のセルを、区画形成する多孔質の隔壁を有するハニカム構造部と、前記ハニカム構造部の外周に配設される外周コート部とを備えるハニカム構造体であって、
少なくとも一方の軸方向端部において、外周コート部の全端面が、ハニカム構造部の端面より軸方向内側に位置するハニカム構造体。 - 前記軸方向端部が、テーパ状に形成されてなり、テーパ部の最も内側の位置をテーパ始点としたときに、前記テーパ始点が、ハニカム構造部上に位置する請求項1に記載のハニカム構造体。
- 一方の端部側の所定のセルの開口部と、他方の端部側の残余のセルの開口部とをそれぞれ封止する目封止部を更に備えた請求項1又は2に記載のハニカム構造体。
- 流体の流路となり軸方向に貫通する複数のセルを、区画形成する多孔質の隔壁を有するハニカム成形体の周縁部を、研削加工して研削ハニカム成形体を形成する工程と、
前記研削ハニカム成形体を、前記研削ハニカム成形体の端部に嵌合し得る凹部を有する2つのカムで、前記研削ハニカム成形体のそれぞれの端部にそれぞれの凹部を嵌合させた状態で挟み、前記研削ハニカム成形体及び2つの前記カムを前記研削ハニカム成形体の軸を中心として回転させた状態で、外周コート材を前記研削ハニカム成形体の外周に供給しながらコート用へらで均し、前記研削ハニカム成形体の外周の中で前記カムと嵌合した部分(嵌合部)を除く部分(非嵌合部)に外周コート部を形成して、ハニカム構造体を作製する工程とを有し、
少なくとも一方の軸方向端部において、外周コート部の全端面が、ハニカム構造部の端面より軸方向内側に位置するハニカム構造体の製造方法。 - 流体の流路となり軸方向に貫通する複数のセルを、区画形成する多孔質の隔壁を有するハニカム成形体の周縁部を、研削加工して研削ハニカム成形体を形成する工程と、
前記研削ハニカム成形体を2つのカムで挟み、前記研削ハニカム成形体及び2つの前記カムを前記研削ハニカム成形体の軸を中心として回転させた状態で、外周コート材を前記研削ハニカム成形体の外周に供給しながらコート用へらで前記外周コート材を均して外周コート部を形成して外周コートハニカム成形体を形成する工程と、
前記外周コートハニカム成形体の少なくとも一方の軸方向端部をテーパ状に加工してハニカム構造体を作製する工程とを有し、
少なくとも一方の軸方向端部において、外周コート部の全端面が、ハニカム構造部の端面より軸方向内側に位置するハニカム構造体の製造方法。
