Description
<均質化の前にアニオン性界面活性剤を用い、アグリゲーションのためにコアギュラント(硫酸アルミニウム)を用いて調製したトナー>
ガラス転移温度(Tg)が64.9、酸価が21、粒子サイズが75nmで、界面活性剤を一切使用せずにpHを7に安定化させ、固形分含量(solids loading)が24%である直鎖状のポリエステル樹脂エマルションを花王(Kao)から入手した。118グラムのこのエマルションを、8.6gのシアン分散体(重量でトナーの4.5%)、1.2グラムのダウファックス(DOWFAX)界面活性剤溶液(水性、47%)、および250グラムの水と共に、ビーカー中5600rpmで均質化し、そのものに滴下により17.3グラムの0.3N硝酸溶液を添加してpHを2.5とし、次いで12グラムの0.02硝酸溶液中0.15gの硫酸アルミニウムを5分かけて添加した。ホモジナイザーの速度を9,500rpmまで上げ、さらに5分間保持し、その後、機械式攪拌機(500rpm)を備えたビーカーに、その混合物を移し替えた。その混合物を測定すると、4.3のpHを有していた。次いでアグリゲートを成長させて約7.1ミクロンとし、次いで、水酸化ナトリウムの4%溶液をpHが8.0に達するまで滴下により添加することによって凝固(frozen)させた。その混合物は、7.48ミクロンのP.S.(粒子サイズ)を示した(幾何学的サイズ分布=1.27/1.29)。次いでその混合物を撹拌しながら徐々に加熱して80℃とし、その温度で約6時間保持し、次いでpHを約7.2まで低下させて、粒子をコアレスさせた。次いでそのトナー粒子を洗浄し、濾過し、乾燥させた。最終的な粒子は、平均粒子サイズが7.11μm、円形度が0.953であった。

加熱マントルおよび機械式攪拌機を備えた2リットルのケトルに、358gの上述のポリエステルエマルション(EMES3−25(EMES 3-25)(花王コーポレーション(Kao Corp.)製)、750グラムの水、25.5gのシアン顔料分散体(トナーの4.5重量%)を仕込み、5,600rpmで均質化させた。次いで0.3N硝酸溶液(15g)を添加して、アグリゲーションを起こさせ、ミキサーの回転を上げて9,000rpmで5分間撹拌し、その後で、12グラムのテイカ(TAYCA)界面活性剤(17%溶液)を添加し、剪断を続けた。その混合物のpHは5.1であった。その混合物を330rpmで撹拌してから、加熱して1時間かけて58℃とすると、その間に粒子が成長して8.4ミクロンとなったので、次いでpHを8.5に調節し、撹拌速度を67rpmにまで下げた。平均粒子サイズは7.89ミクロンであった(GSD=1.25/1.26)。その混合物を加熱して60分以上かけて78℃とし、その温度を2時間保持し、その後でpHを6.8にまで下げ、温度を80℃に上げ、3時間かけて粒子をコアレスさせた。最終的な平均粒子サイズは7.5ミクロンであり、GSDが1.26/1.25、円形度が0.96であった。
Claims (3)
- 粒子を形成させるための方法であって、
16mg/当量KOH〜40mg/当量KOHの酸価を有するポリエステル樹脂のエマルションを生成させる工程と、
前記エマルションからアグリゲート粒子を生成させる工程と、
を含むことを特徴とする粒子を形成させるための方法。 - 粒子を形成させるための方法であって、
まず、16mg/当量KOH〜40mg/当量KOHの酸価を有するポリエステル樹脂のエマルションを生成させることによりラテックスを形成させる工程と、
場合によっては、着色剤分散体、ワックス分散体、および/または界面活性剤をそれに添加する工程と、
剪断力をかけ、酸の水溶液を添加して前記混合物のpHを3〜5.5とし、それに続けて場合によってはコアギュラントの水溶液を添加する工程と、
30℃〜60℃の温度に加熱して、前記アグリゲートを成長させて3〜20ミクロンのサイズとする工程と、
前記混合物のpHを7〜9の範囲に上げる工程と、
前記混合物を60℃〜95℃に加熱する工程と、
場合によっては、pHを6.0〜6.8の範囲に下げる工程と、
を含むことを特徴とする粒子を形成させるための方法。 - 前記ポリエステル樹脂のエマルションを生成させる工程は、前記ポリエステル樹脂と有機溶媒とを混合し、アルカリ塩基を用いて前記ポリエステル樹脂の酸基を中和する工程と、前記ポリエステル樹脂と有機溶媒との混合物を水中に分散させた後、加熱して前記有機溶媒を除去する工程と、を含むことを特徴とする請求項1又は2記載の粒子を形成させるための方法。
