Claims (7)
- 供給される階調データそれぞれに応じて画素に対応する各表示素子負荷を駆動させる駆動装置において、該駆動装置は、
所定の電圧範囲内の電圧を供給する第1の電源に接続され、前記階調データに対応する階調信号を入力し、該階調信号に応じた電圧を前記表示素子負荷に印加して、前記所定の電圧範囲にコモン電圧を含み、前記所定の電源電圧による電圧区分の範囲で前記表示素子負荷を駆動させる駆動手段と、
前記所定の電圧範囲内の前記コモン電圧に対して適宜選択した複数の電圧を前記表示素子負荷に印加する第2の電源と、
前記駆動手段の駆動と第2の電源の電圧印加とを切り換えて、前記表示素子負荷からの放電/該表示素子負荷への給電を切り換える印加切換手段と、
前記表示素子負荷に対する複数の給電の電圧区分に応じて放電/充電の切換信号を生成する切換制御手段とを含み、
前記印加切換手段は、さらに、第2の電源によって印加される前記複数の電圧が示す上限電圧と前記コモン電圧とで表わす第1電圧範囲、および第2の電源によって印加される前記複数の電圧が示す下限電圧と前記コモン電圧とで表わす第2電圧範囲内での放電/給電を選択的に切り換える外部切換手段、ならびに第1電圧範囲の上限電圧から前記所定の電圧範囲の上限電圧までの第3電圧範囲、および第2電圧範囲の下限電圧から前記所定の電圧範囲の下限電圧までの第4電圧範囲内での放電/給電を選択的に切り換える内部切換手段を含み、
前記切換制御手段は、隣り合うデータ線の動作タイミングを規定する第1のロード信号をバッファリングし、隣り合うデータ線を短絡させる第1の切換信号を出力する第1制御手段と、
第1および第2のロード信号を入力し、入力した両信号を論理和演算して、得られた演算結果を反転させて、第4電圧範囲または第3電圧範囲の電圧信号を出力するように切換制御する第2の切換信号を出力する第2制御手段と、
極性信号を反転させた信号と第2のロード信号を入力し、入力した両信号を論理積演算して、第1電圧範囲または第2電圧範囲の電圧信号を出力するように切換制御する第3の切換信号を出力する第3制御手段と、
第2のロード信号と前記極性信号を入力し、入力した両信号を論理積演算して、第2電圧範囲または第1電圧範囲の電圧信号を出力するように切換制御する第4の切換信号を出力する第4制御手段とを含み、
第2の電源は、第1の電源が配設された位置から隔離された外部にあることを特徴とする駆動装置。 - 請求項1に記載の駆動装置において、第2の電源は、該装置を収納するパッケージの外部にあることを特徴とする駆動装置。
- 請求項1または2に記載の駆動装置において、前記切換制御手段は、階調データにおける最上位ビットの有無を判定する判定手段を含み、第2の電源により充電するか否かを判定することを特徴とする駆動装置。
- 請求項3に記載の駆動装置において、第1および第2のロード信号に基づいて第1および第2の電源の電圧の印加タイミングを決定し、前記極性信号は放電と充電の期間を表わし、前記切換制御手段は、第1および第2のロード信号ならびに前記極性信号を用い、または第1および第2のロード信号、前記極性信号ならびに前記階調データにおける最上位ビットの有無を示すビット信号に基づき、前記切換信号を生成することを特徴とする駆動装置。
- 請求項1ないし4のいずれか一項に記載の駆動装置において、該駆動装置は、低い階調から高い階調までn段階の階調に応じた電圧を出力する駆動装置であって、
第2の電源は、n/4番目からn/2番目の階調に応じた電圧信号を出力することを特徴とする駆動装置。 - 供給される階調データそれぞれに応じて画素に対応する各表示素子負荷を駆動させる駆動方法において、該駆動方法は、
所定の電圧範囲内の電圧を供給する第1の電源と、第1の電源が配設された位置の外部に隔離した第2の電源とから前記表示素子負荷に給電し、
第1の電源は、前記所定の電圧範囲内で電圧を印加して、
第2の電源は、前記所定の電圧範囲内のコモン電圧に対して適宜選択した複数の電圧を前記表示素子負荷に印加して、
該表示素子負荷への印加に際して、前記表示素子負荷に対する放電/給電の電圧区分に応じて放電/充電の切換信号を生成する切換制御手段で電圧範囲を選択的に切り換える印加切換手段に切換信号を出力し、
第2の電源によって印加される前記複数の電圧が示す上限電圧と前記コモン電圧とで表わす第1電圧範囲、および第2の電源によって印加される前記複数の電圧が示す下限電圧と前記コモン電圧とで表わす第2電圧範囲内での放電/給電を選択的に切り換える外部切換手段による外部切換え、ならびに第1電圧範囲の上限電圧から前記所定の電圧範囲の上限電圧までの第3電圧範囲、および第2圧範囲の下限電圧から前記所定の電圧範囲の下限電圧までの第4電圧範囲での放電/給電を選択的に切り換える内部切換手段による内部切換えを行なう印加切換手段を、前記切換信号に応じて切り換えて前記表示素子負荷を放電または充電し、
前記切換信号は、隣り合うデータ線の動作タイミングを規定する第1のロード信号をバッファリングし、隣り合うデータ線を短絡させる第1の切換信号と、
入力する第1および第2のロード信号を論理和演算して得られた演算結果を反転させて、第4電圧範囲または第3電圧範囲の電圧信号を出力するように切換制御する第2の切換信号と、
入力する放電/給電を示す極性信号を反転させた信号と第2のロード信号を論理積演算して、第1電圧範囲または第2電圧範囲の電圧信号を出力するように切換制御する第3の切換信号と、
入力する第2のロード信号と前記極性信号を論理積演算して、第2電圧範囲または第1電圧範囲の電圧信号を出力するように切換制御する第4の切換信号とを含むことを特徴とする駆動方法。 - 請求項6に記載の駆動方法において、該駆動方法は、前記階調データの最上位ビットの有無に応じて第2の電源から給電させるか否かを判定することを特徴とする駆動方法。
