Claims (13)
- 有機発光ダイオードの発光輝度をデジタル階調によって制御する方法において、
有機発光ダイオードの発光時間に対応する輝度特性を格納する段階と、
フレーム単位で供給される第1データを画素毎に加算して発光時間の累積データを生成する段階と、
現在供給される前記第1データが供給される画素の累積データを抽出し、抽出された累積データの発光時間に対応する輝度を前記輝度特性から計算する段階と、
前記画素毎の前記累積データの発光時間のうち最も大きい累積データの発光時間に対応する輝度を計算する段階と、
前記第1データが供給される画素の最大輝度に対して、前記最も大きい累積データを有する画素の最大輝度を用いて前記第1データのビット値を調節して第2データを生成する段階と、
前記第1データの代わりに前記第2データを、前記第1データが供給される画素を発光させるために使用する段階と、
前記最も大きい累積データを有する画素の初期輝度に対応して前記画素に供給される第1電源の電圧値を調節する段階と
を含み、
前記第1電源の電圧値を調節する段階は、前記第1電源の電圧値が、前記最も大きい累積データを有する前記画素に含まれる前記有機発光ダイオードが劣化する前の初期輝度で発光し得るように調節され、
前記第2データを生成する段階は、前記第1データが供給される画素の最大輝度を、前記最も大きい累積データを有する画素の最大輝度に対応するように低くする前記第2データを生成し、
前記輝度特性を格納する段階は、
有機電界発光表示装置に電源が供給される際にダミー画素に含まれる有機発光ダイオードに電流を供給する段階と、
前記有機発光ダイオードで生成される光の量を測定しながら、前記発光時間に対応する輝度特性を格納する段階と
を含み、
前記第2データは下記数式によって生成されることを特徴とする有機電界発光表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記画素は前記第2データに対応して前記フレームに含まれる多数のサブフレーム期間に発光または非発光しながら、階調を表現することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の有機電界発光表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記画素が発光する際に前記第1電源から前記有機発光ダイオードを経由して第2電源に電流が流れることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の有機電界発光表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記第1電源の電圧値は前記最も大きい累積データを有する前記画素に含まれる前記有機発光ダイオードが劣化する前の輝度で発光し得るように調節されることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の有機電界発光表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記第1電源の電圧値は前記有機発光ダイオードが劣化するほど上昇することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の有機電界発光表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記第1データが供給される際に温度を測定し、測定された温度に対応する劣化速度が反映されるように前記第1データのビット値を変更して前記累積データを生成する段階を更に含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の有機電界発光表示装置の駆動方法。
- 発光輝度がデジタル階調によって制御される有機発光ダイオードの初期輝度が記憶部に格納される段階と、
累積発光時間に対応して劣化する前記有機発光ダイオードが含まれる各画素の最大輝度を前記画素毎に抽出する段階と、
前記画素のうち最も多く発光した累積発光時間が最も長い画素の最大輝度と略同一となるように残りの画素の最大輝度を調節する段階と、
前記最も多く発光した画素の最大輝度が前記初期輝度になるように前記有機発光ダイオードの電流を供給する第1電源の電圧値を調節する段階と、
を含み、
前記初期輝度を格納する段階は、
有機電界発光表示装置に電源が供給される際にダミー画素に含まれる有機発光ダイオードに電流を供給する段階と、
前記有機発光ダイオードで生成される光の量を測定しながら、発光時間に対応する輝度特性を格納する段階と、
を含むことを特徴とする有機電界発光表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記画素のそれぞれに対応するデータのビット値を調節して前記残りの画素の最大輝度を調節することを特徴とする請求項7に記載の有機電界発光表示装置の駆動方法。
- 1フレームに含まれる多数のサブフィールドの走査期間に走査信号を順次供給するための走査駆動部と、
前記走査信号が供給される際に画素が発光する第1データ信号及び前記画素が非発光する第2データ信号のうち少なくとも1つをデータ線に供給するためのデータ駆動部と、
前記画素のうち最も低い最大輝度を有する画素と略同じ最大輝度を有するように前記残りの画素に供給される第1データのビット値を調節して第2データを生成する劣化補償部と、
前記第2データの供給を受けて前記サブフィールド毎に発光時間を制御する第3データを前記データ駆動部に供給するためのタイミング制御部と
を備え、
前記劣化補償部は、
有機発光ダイオードの発光時間に対応する輝度特性を格納する第3メモリと、
外部から供給される前記第1データを累積加算して生成される前記画素毎の累積データを第1メモリに格納し、第1メモリに格納された累積データのうち最も大きい累積データに対応する画素の最大輝度である第1最大輝度と、現在供給される第1データが供給される画素における累積データに対応する最大輝度である第2最大輝度を前記輝度特性から抽出する第1演算部と、
前記第1演算部から供給される前記第1最大輝度と前記第2最大輝度を用いて前記第1データのビット値を変更して前記第2データを生成するための第2演算部と、
前記第2演算部で生成された前記第2データを格納する第2メモリと
を備え、
前記第2演算部は下記数式を用いて前記第2データを生成し、
前記有機発光ダイオードの発光時間に対応する輝度特性を測定するための輝度特性測定部を更に備え、
前記輝度特性測定部は、
前記有機電界発光表示装置に電源が供給される期間に発光状態を維持するダミー画素と、
前記ダミー画素から生成される光の量を測定するフォトセンサと、
前記フォトセンサから供給されるアナログ信号を増幅する増幅部と、
前記増幅されたアナログ信号をデジタル信号に変更するためのアナログデジタルコンバータとを備えることを特徴とする有機電界発光表示装置。 - 前記第1演算部はi番目のフレームに対応する前記第1データが供給される際にi−1番目のフレーム期間に格納された前記累積データを用いて第1最大輝度及び第2最大輝度を抽出することを特徴とする請求項9に記載の有機電界発光表示装置。
- 前記第1演算部に現在の駆動温度を供給するための温度センサを更に備えることを特徴とする請求項9に記載の有機電界発光表示装置。
- 前記第1演算部は前記現在の駆動温度に対応する有機発光ダイオードの劣化特性が反映され得るように前記第1データのビット値を変更して前記累積データを生成することを特徴とする請求項11に記載の有機電界発光表示装置。
- 前記第1演算部は前記ダミー画素の駆動時間に対応する前記デジタル信号を前記第3メモリに格納することを特徴とする請求項9に記載の有機電界発光表示装置。
