Abstract
【解決手段】表示部1に形成した表示用画素4の有機EL素子と同じ工程で形成した測定用画素5の有機EL素子を、表示部1と異なる位置に形成する。測定用画素5の有機EL素子を表示用画素4の有機EL素子と同一の電圧供給を受けて動作するようにし、その際の駆動電流をコントローラ7において検出する。測定用画素5の有機EL素子の駆動電流により、表示用画素4の有機EL素子の状態を推定することができ、表示を適切なものに維持することができる。

Claims (10)
- 駆動電流に応じて発光する自発光素子を表示領域にマトリクス状に配置した表示装置であって、
表示領域と異なる位置に形成され、表示領域に形成した有機EL素子と同じ工程で形成される測定用自発光素子と、
この測定用自発光素子に駆動電圧を供給する駆動電圧供給手段と、
この駆動電圧供給手段により駆動電圧が供給されたときにおける測定用自発光素子の駆動状態を検出する駆動状態検出手段と、
を有することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の表示装置において、
前記駆動状態検出手段は、測定用自発光素子に流れる駆動電流を検出することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の表示装置において、
前記駆動状態検出手段は、測定用自発光素子の発光量検出することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1〜3のいずれか1つに記載の表示装置において、
さらに、
前記駆動状態検出手段において検出した駆動状態に基づいて、表示領域の各自発光素子に印加される電圧を補正する補正手段を有することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項4に記載の表示装置において、
前記表示領域の自発光素子に供給する駆動電圧は予め定められた電圧であって、その供給時間が制御可能なデジタル駆動であり、
前記補正手段は、表示領域の自発光素子の正側または負側の電源電圧を変更することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1〜5のいずれか1つに記載の表示装置において、
前記駆動電圧供給手段は、表示領域の自発光素子に供給される駆動電圧を代表する駆動電圧を測定用自発光素子に供給することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項6に記載の表示装置において、
前記表示領域の自発光素子に供給する駆動電圧は予め定められた電圧であって、その供給時間が制御可能なデジタル駆動であり、前記駆動電圧供給手段は、表示領域の自発光素子をデジタル駆動する代表的なパルス状電圧を測定用自発光素子に供給することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1〜7のいずれか1つに記載の表示装置において、
前記駆動電圧供給手段は、測定用自発光素子に、前記表示領域の自発光素子と同様の駆動電圧を継続的に供給することで、前記駆動状態検出手段の検出値により表示領域の自発光素子の経時劣化を検出することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1〜8のいずれか1つに記載の表示装置において、
前記表示領域の自発光素子および測定用自発光素子は、赤(R)、緑(G)、青(B)の3色を有すると共に、
前記駆動状態検出手段におけるRGB各色の測定用自発光素子の駆動状態から、RGB各色の最大輝度を求め、白表示が可能な範囲で、表示データを設定する表示データ設定手段を有することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1〜9のいずれか1つに記載の表示装置において、
前記表示領域の自発光素子および測定用自発光素子は、有機EL素子であることを特徴とする表示装置。
