Claims (2)
- エンジンにより回転駆動される入力軸と、駆動車輪に連結される出力軸と、前記入力軸と平行に配置されてそれぞれ前記出力軸に連結される第1中間軸、第2中間軸及び後進軸と、前記入力軸と第1中間軸の間に互いに並列に設けられて、それぞれが1組または2組の前進変速ギヤ対とこの各前進変速ギヤ対による前記入力軸と第1中間軸の間の動力伝達を切り換える第1または第2切換クラッチよりなる第1及び第2前進歯車切換ユニットと、前記入力軸と第2中間軸の間に設けられて1組または2組の前進変速ギヤ対とこの前進変速ギヤ対による前記入力軸と第2中間軸の間の動力伝達を切り換える第3切換クラッチよりなる第3前進歯車切換ユニットと、前記入力軸と後進軸の間に設けられて1組の後進ギヤ列とこの後進ギヤ列による前記入力軸と前記後進軸の間の動力伝達を切り換える後進切換クラッチよりなる後進歯車切換ユニットと、前記各部を支持するとともにそれらの大部分を覆う変速機ケースよりなる変速機を、前記エンジンに直列に連結して車体に横置きに搭載した自動車において、
前記第1前進歯車切換ユニット、第3前進歯車切換ユニット及び後進歯車切換ユニットは前記エンジン側に寄せて配置し、前記第2前進歯車切換ユニットは前記第1前進歯車切換ユニットの前記エンジンと反対側となる一側に配置するとともに、前記第2中間軸は前記入力軸及び第1中間軸よりも上方に位置させることにより、前記変速機ケースは前記エンジンと反対側となる背面のうち前記第3前進歯車切換ユニットの前記第2中間軸に設けた部分と対応する第2部分をその下側の前記第1及び第2前進歯車切換ユニットと対応する第1部分よりも前記エンジン側に接近させて前記背面の上部に凹んだ切欠き部を形成し、
互いに直列に連結した前記エンジンと変速機は、前記車体の両側部を前後方向に延びる1対のサイドフレームの一方が前記変速機ケースの切欠き部内を通るように配置して前記車体に搭載し、
前記第1前進歯車切換ユニットの前記第2前進歯車切換ユニット側となる前記前進変速ギヤ対の駆動ギヤまたは前記第2前進歯車切換ユニットの前記第1前進歯車切換ユニット側となる前記前進変速ギヤ対の駆動ギヤと、前記第3前進歯車切換ユニットの前記エンジンと反対側となる前記前進変速ギヤ対の駆動ギヤは、前記入力軸に設けられた共用のギヤとし、
前記第1前進歯車切換ユニットの前記エンジン側となる前進変速ギヤ対は第1速段のギヤ対とし、
前記後進ギヤ列は前記入力軸に設けられた駆動ギヤと、前記第1中間軸または第2中間軸に回転自在に支持された遊転ギヤと、前記後進軸に設けられた被動ギヤよりなり、
前記後進ギヤ列の駆動ギヤは前記第1速段のギヤ対の駆動ギヤと共用させた
ことを特徴とする直列に連結したエンジンと変速機を横置きに搭載した自動車。 - 請求項1に記載の直列に連結したエンジンと変速機を横置きに搭載した自動車において、前記第1〜第3前進歯車切換ユニットは何れも2組の前記前進変速ギヤ対とこの2組の各前進変速ギヤ対の間に設けられてこの両前進変速ギヤ対による前記入力軸と第1及び第2中間軸の間の動力伝達を切り換える前記切換クラッチよりなることを特徴とする直列に連結したエンジンと変速機を横置きに搭載した自動車。
