また、上記電気光学装置において、前記第1のスイッチング素子は、前記第1のデータ線の側に最も隣接して配置された前記第1画素電極の分割画素電極に接続され、前記第2のスイッチング素子は、前記第2のデータ線の側に最も隣接して配置された前記第2画素電極の分割画素電極に接続されることを特徴とする。
図1は、本実施形態に係る電気光学装置としての液晶装置100の断面図である。本実施形態に係る液晶装置100は、視差バリア方式の画像表示装置であり、例えば、異なる観察位置に位置する複数の観察者に異なる画像を表示する2画面表示、又は、3次元の立体画像を表示する立体画像表示、を行うことができる。以下では、説明の便宜上、液晶装置100は2画面表示を行うものとする。
次に、本実施形態に係る液晶装置100によって表示される合成画像について説明する。
次に、画素電極の分割方法について図6を用いて説明する。図6(a)は、一般的なバリア視差方式の液晶表示パネルの拡大断面図であり、図6(b)は、本実施形態に係る液晶表示パネル20の拡大断面図である。
次に、本実施形態に係る液晶装置100の応用例について説明する。上述の実施形態では、画素電極5は、2つの分割画素電極5a,5bに2分割されるとしているが、これに限られるものではなく、3つ以上の分割画素電極に分割されるとしてもよい。画素電極5の分割画素電極への分割数が増えるほど、オーバーコート層8を薄く形成することが可能となり、オーバーコート層8の厚さを安定して形成することができる。
次に、本実施形態に係る液晶装置100を適用可能な電子機器の具体例について図9を参照して説明する。
Claims (9)
- 少なくとも、第1領域に対応する第1分割画素電極と、前記第1分割画素電に接続され第2領域に対応する第2分割画素電極と、に分割された第1画素電極によって第1の画像を表示する第1表示要素と、
少なくとも、第3領域に対応する第3分割画素電極と、前記第3分割画素電に接続され第4領域に対応する第4分割画素電極と、に分割された第2画素電極によって第2の画像を表示する第2表示要素と、
を含み、前記第1領域と前記第2領域との間に前記第3領域が、前記第3領域と前記第4領域との間に前記第2領域が、それぞれ位置しており、
遮光領域と透過領域とを有して前記第1表示要素および前記第2表示要素の視認側に備えられ、前記透過領域が前記第1領域と前記第3領域との間、及び前記第2領域と前記第4領域との間にそれぞれ対応して位置する視差バリア層と、
前記第1表示要素および前記第2表示要素と、前記視差バリア層とを離間させるスペーサ層と、
を具備してなることを特徴とする電気光学装置。 - 前記透過領域は、前記第1領域と前記第3領域との境界、及び前記第2領域と前記第4領域との境界に沿って設けられたスリットであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気光学装置。
- 前記第1画素電極に接続される第1のスイッチング素子と、
前記第1のスイッチング素子に接続される第1のデータ線と、
前記第2画素電極に接続される第2のスイッチング素子と、
前記第2のスイッチング素子に接続される第2のデータ線と、
前記第1および前記第2スイッチング素子に接続される走査線と、更に備えてなることを特徴とする請求項1又は請求項2に記載の電気光学装置。 - 前記第1のスイッチング素子は、前記第1のデータ線の側に最も隣接して配置された前記第1画素電極の分割画素電極に接続され、
前記第2のスイッチング素子は、前記第2のデータ線の側に最も隣接して配置された前記第2画素電極の分割画素電極に接続されることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の電気光学装置。 - 前記視差バリア層、および前記スペーサ層が積層された第1基板と、
前記第1基板に対向してなる第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に封入された電気光学物質と、を具備することを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項4のいずれか一項に記載の電気光学装置。 - 前記第2基板が、前記第1画素電極および前記第2画素電極を有してなることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の電気光学装置。
- 前記第1基板に着色層が形成されてなることを特徴とする請求項5又は請求項6に記載の電気光学装置。
- 前記第2の基板に向けて光を照射する照明装置を備えてなることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の電気光学装置。
- 請求項1乃至請求項8のいずれか一項に記載の電気光学装置を備えてなることを特徴とする電子機器。
