Abstract
【解決手段】上記の電気光学装置は、第1及び第2の基板に電気光学物質が挟持される構造を有する。第1の基板の電気光学物質側の面上には、複数のデータ線及び複数の走査線がマトリクス状に配置されるとともに、複数のデータ線と複数の走査線とで区画された領域に画素電極が配置される。画素電極は、複数のデータ線と複数の走査線との交点に設けられた第1の分割画素電極と、第1の分割画素電極と直接接続された少なくとも1つ以上の第2の分割画素電極と、に分割されて構成される。このようにすることで、視差バリアと電気光学物質との間に設けられるオーバーコート層の厚さを薄くすることができ、クロストークの低減を図ることができる。

Description
図1は、本実施形態に係る電気光学装置としての液晶装置100の断面図である。本実施形態に係る液晶装置100は、視差バリア方式の画像表示装置であり、例えば、異なる観察位置に位置する複数の観察者に異なる画像を表示する2画面表示、又は、3次元の立体画像を表示する立体画像表示、を行うことができる。以下では、説明の便宜上、液晶装置100は2画面表示を行うものとする。
次に、本実施形態に係る液晶装置100によって表示される合成画像について説明する。
次に、画素電極の分割方法について図6を用いて説明する。図6(a)は、一般的なバリア視差方式の液晶表示パネルの拡大断面図であり、図6(b)は、本実施形態に係る液晶表示パネル20の拡大断面図である。
次に、本実施形態に係る液晶装置100の応用例について説明する。上述の実施形態では、画素電極5は、2つの分割画素電極5a,5bに2分割されるとしているが、これに限られるものではなく、3つ以上の分割画素電極に分割されるとしてもよい。画素電極5の分割画素電極への分割数が増えるほど、オーバーコート層8を薄く形成することが可能となり、オーバーコート層8の厚さを安定して形成することができる。
次に、本実施形態に係る液晶装置100を適用可能な電子機器の具体例について図9を参照して説明する。
Claims (14)
- 少なくとも第1領域、および第2領域に分割されており、第1の画像を表示する第1表示要素と、
少なくとも第3領域、および第4領域に分割されており、第2の画像を表示する第2表示要素と、を含み、
前記第1領域と前記第2領域との間に前記第3領域が、前記第3領域と前記第4領域との間に前記第2領域が、それぞれ位置し、
前記第1表示要素および前記第2表示要素の視認側に設けられており、前記第1領域と前記第3領域との境界、及び前記第2領域と前記第4領域との境界に光透過領域を備えてなる視差バリア層と、
前記第1表示要素および前記第2表示要素と、前記視差バリア層とを離間させるスペーサ層と、を具備してなることを特徴とする電気光学装置。 - 前記スペーサ層の厚さをdth、前記第1領域と前記第3領域との配列ピッチ、又は前記第2領域と前記第4領域との配列ピッチをpchとしたときに、1.1≦dth/pch≦1.3となることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気光学装置。
- 前記光透過領域が、第1領域と前記第3領域との境界、及び前記第2領域と前記第4領域との境界に沿って設けられたスリットであることを特徴とする請求項1又は請求項2に記載の電気光学装置。
- 互いに表示色が異なる複数のサブ画素によりカラー画素が構成され、前記第1表示要素、又は前記第2表示要素は、前記複数のサブ画素のうちの1のサブ画素であることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項3のいずれか一項に記載の電気光学装置。
- 前記第1表示要素と前記第2表示要素は夫々異なる表示色に対応してなることを特徴とする請求項4に記載の電気光学装置。
- 前記第1表示要素と前記第2表示要素は互いに同一の表示色に対応してなることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項3のいずれか一項に記載の電気光学装置。
- 前記第1表示要素は第1画素電極を含み、前記第1画素電極は、前記第1領域に対応する第1分割画素電極と、前記第1分割画素電極に接続しており前記第2領域に対応する第2分割画素電極とに分割されており、
前記第2表示要素は第2画素電極を含み、前記第2画素電極は、前記第3領域に対応する第3分割画素電極と、前記第3分割画素電極に接続しており前記第4領域に対応する第4分割画素電極と、に分割されてなることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項6のいずれか一項に記載の電気光学装置。 - 前記第1画素電極に接続される第1のスイッチング素子と、
前記第1のスイッチング素子に接続される第1のデータ線と、
前記第2画素電極に接続される第2のスイッチング素子と、
前記第2のスイッチング素子に接続される第2のデータ線と、
前記第1および前記第2スイッチング素子に接続される走査線と、更に備えてなることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の電気光学装置。 - 前記第1のスイッチング素子は、前記第1分割画素電極で前記第1画素電極に接続され、
前記第2のスイッチング素子は、前記第4分割画素電極で前記第2画素電極に接続されることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の電気光学装置。 - 前記視差バリア層、および前記スペーサ層が積層された第1基板と、
前記第1基板に対向してなる第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に封入された電気光学物質と、を具備することを特徴とする請求項7乃至請求項9のいずれか一項に記載の電気光学装置。 - 前記第2基板が、前記第1画素電極および前記第2画素電極を有してなることを特徴とする請求項10に記載の電気光学装置。
- 前記第1基板に着色層が形成されてなることを特徴とする請求項10又は請求項11に記載の電気光学装置。
- 前記第2の基板に向けて光を照射する照明装置を備えてなることを特徴とする請求項11に記載の電気光学装置。
- 請求項1乃至請求項12のいずれか一項に記載の電気光学装置を備えてなることを特徴とする電子機器。
