この発明は、光ファイバ干渉計に関し、より具体的には、たとえば、回転、運動、圧力、または他の刺激を感知するための光ファイバサニャック干渉計に関する。
光ファイバサニャック干渉計は、通例、光ファイバループを含み、これに対して、光波が結合され、対向する方向にループを伝搬する。ループを通った後、対向して伝搬する波は組合され、それらは、コヒーレントに干渉して光出力信号を形成する。この光出力信号の強度は、波が組合されるとき、対向して伝搬する波の相対位相の関数として変化する。

Claims (47)
- 光センサであって、
第1の光信号を放出する出力部を有する光源と、
少なくとも第1のポート、第2のポート、および第3のポートを含む方向性結合器とを含み、前記第1のポートは、前記光源に光学的に結合されて前記光源から放出された前記第1の光信号を受取り、前記第1のポートは、前記第1のポートが受取る前記第1の光信号が、前記第2のポートによって出力される第2の光信号と前記第3のポートによって出力される第3の光信号とに分割されるように、前記第2のポートと前記第3のポートとに光学的に結合され、前記光センサはさらに、
クラッディングによって囲まれた中空コアを有する中空コアフォトニックバンドギャップファイバーを含み、前記中空コアフォトニックバンドギャップファイバーは、第2の光信号および第3の光信号が前記中空コアフォトニックバンドギャップファイバーを対向して伝搬し、それぞれ第3のポートおよび第2の光ポートに戻ってくるように、第2のポートおよび第3のポートに光学的に結合され、前記中空コアフォトニックバンドギャップファイバーの前記クラッディングは、対向して伝搬する第2の光信号および第3の光信号を前記中空コア内での伝搬に実質的に拘束し、前記光センサはさらに、
光学装置内の、ある位置に配置されて、対向して伝搬する前記第2の光信号および前記第3の光信号が前記中空コアフォトニックバンドギャップファイバーを通った後、第2の光信号および第3の光信号を受取る光検出器を含む、光センサ。 - 前記光源は、約1ナノメートル以上の半波高全幅値を備えたスペクトル分布を有する光を出力する広帯域源を含む、請求項1に記載の光センサ。
- 前記光源は、超蛍光源を含む、請求項2に記載の光センサ。
- 光源平均波長は、少なくとも約±100ppmに安定している、請求項3に記載の光センサ。
- 光源平均波長は、少なくとも約±10ppmに安定している、請求項3に記載の光センサ。
- 光源平均波長は、少なくとも約±1ppmに安定している、請求項3に記載の光センサ。
- 光源平均波長は、少なくとも約±0.1ppmに安定している、請求項3に記載の光センサ。
- 前記超蛍光源は、超蛍光ファイバー源を含む、請求項3に記載の光センサ。

- 狭帯域光源は、半導体レーザダイオードを含む、請求項16に記載の光センサ。
- 光源平均波長は、少なくとも約±100ppmに安定している、請求項16に記載の光センサ。

- 前記クラッディングは、シリカベースのガラス内に反復的なチャネルアレイをさらに含む、請求項26に記載の光センサ。
- 前記チャネルは中空である、請求項27に記載の光センサ。
- 感知するための方法であって、
平均波長λを有する光を生成するステップを含み、前記光は、2つの部分に分割され、前記方法はさらに、
前記光の第1の部分を中空導波路のまわりを時計回りに伝搬させ、さらには前記光の第2の部分を前記中空導波路のまわりを反時計回りに伝搬させるステップと、
前記光のためのフォトニックバンドギャップ構造を有するクラッディングによって、光の前記第1の部分および前記第2の部分を前記中空導波路内の中空コアでの伝搬に実質的に拘束するステップと、
光の前記第1の部分および前記第2の部分をそれぞれの時計回り方向および反時計回り方向で前記中空導波路のまわりを伝搬させた後、光の前記第1の部分および前記第2の部分を光学的に干渉し、光干渉信号を生成するステップと、
前記中空導波路が摂動の影響を受けるようにするステップと、
前記摂動によって生じた光干渉信号の変動を測定するステップとを含む、感知するための方法。 - 光の前記第1の部分および前記第2の部分は、前記中空コア内に実質的に拘束され、後方散乱が減じられる、請求項29に記載の方法。
- 前記光の少なくとも約90%は、前記中空コア内に拘束される、請求項30に記載の方法。
- 前記光の少なくとも約95%は、前記中空コア内に拘束される、請求項30に記載の方法。
- 前記光の少なくとも約99%は、前記中空コア内に拘束される、請求項30に記載の方法。
- 光の前記第1の部分および前記第2の部分は、空気を含む前記中空コア内の領域に実質的に拘束される、請求項29に記載の方法。
- 光の前記第1の部分および前記第2の部分は、真空を含む前記中空コア内の領域に実質的に拘束される、請求項29に記載の方法。
- 前記光を強度変調するステップをさらに含む、請求項29に記載の方法。
- 49%から51%の間のデューティサイクルで前記光を強度変調するステップをさらに含む、請求項29に記載の方法。
- 約50%のデューティサイクルで前記光を強度変調するステップをさらに含む、請求項29に記載の方法。
