Description
一定の20リットルのアルミニウム・チャンバー(4.4インチ(11.2cm)×12インチ(30.5cm)×22インチ(55.9cm))の中に典型的な各種の医療装置および試験用の内孔部を含む一定のCSR包装のトレイ(3.5インチ(8.89cm)×10インチ(25.4cm)×20インチ(50.8cm))を配置することにより効力試験を行なった。少なくとも1×106 個のバシラス属脂肪好熱菌類(Bacillus stearothermophilus spores)を接種した1インチ(2.54cm)のステンレス・スチール・ワイヤーを上記試験内孔部のそれぞれの中心に入れた。その後、上記拡散通路の温度調整の有無による作用効果を1mmの内径および700mmの長さを有する一定のテフロン(登録商標)(TEFLON(R))のポリ(テトラフルオロエチレン)の内孔部、および1mmの内径および500mmの長さを有する一定のステンレス・スチールの内孔部の両方において調べた。全ての内孔部はその両端部において開口していた。これらのサンプルのそれぞれを一定の20リットルの真空チャンバー内において一定の滅菌処理工程にかけて、5分間にわたり40℃および3トール(3.99×102 パスカル)に維持した。1.44mlの過酸化水素の59%水溶液を60℃に維持した気化装置の中に大気圧において注入した。その後、5分用クロックを始動してチャンバーを3トールまでポンプにより減圧したが、この処理は1分未満の時間がかかった。一例の場合において、上記拡散通路24は上記チャンバーを3トールまで排気している状態の最初の1分において30℃の初期的な温度を有していたが、その後に、上記圧力を3トールに維持した状態でその処理工程の残りの部分において上記拡散通路からチャンバーの中に液化した過酸化物を放出するために50℃に加熱されている。また、別の場合においては、上記拡散通路は上記処理工程の全体において50℃に維持されている。このように拡散通路を50℃に維持することにより、その拡散通路の中にほとんどまたは全く過酸化物が残らなくなる。このような状態において、滅菌の作用効果を55℃において増殖培地内の各試験サンプルを培養してその試験生物の増殖について調べることにより測定した。以下の表1はこれらの試験の結果を示している。
(A)滅菌システムにおいて、
滅菌チャンバーと、
前記滅菌チャンバーに接続している真空ポンプと、
過酸化水素水溶液気化装置と、
前記気化装置とチャンバーとの間における拡散通路と、を備えており、
当該拡散通路が、前記拡散通路の温度を調整するための温度調整装置を有し、前記温度調整装置は、前記拡散通路を冷却する第1の部分、および前記拡散通路を加熱する第2の部分を含み、前記第1の部分で液化した過酸化水素が、前記第2の部分で気化する滅菌システム。
(1)前記温度調整装置がヒーターを含む実施態様(A)に記載の滅菌システム。
(2)前記温度調整装置が熱電ヒーターを含む実施態様(1)に記載の滅菌システム。
(3)前記温度調整装置が冷却器を含む実施態様(1)に記載の滅菌システム。
(4)さらに、前記過酸化水素水溶液が前記気化装置の中に入ってから一定時間の経過後に前記温度調整装置に前記拡散通路を加熱させるようにプログラムされている制御システムを備えている実施態様(A)に記載の滅菌システム。
(5)前記拡散通路が少なくとも10センチメートルの長さである実施態様(A)に記載の滅菌システム。
(7)さらに、圧力調整システムを備えている実施態様(A)に記載の滅菌システム。
(B)物品を滅菌する方法において、
前記物品を滅菌チャンバーの中に入れる工程と、
前記チャンバーの中の圧力を低下させる工程と、
過酸化水素水溶液を気化装置の中において気化して過酸化水素蒸気を形成する工程と、
前記過酸化水素蒸気を前記気化装置から拡散通路に沿って前記チャンバーの中に拡散させる工程と、
前記拡散通路を冷却して、前記過酸化水素蒸気の一部を前記拡散通路で液化させる工程と、
前記拡散通路を加熱して、当該拡散通路において液化した過酸化水素を気化させる工程と、を含む方法。
(8)前記拡散通路が約50℃を超える温度に加熱される実施態様(B)に記載の方法。
(9)前記拡散通路が前記液化した過酸化水素を気化するために十分な温度に加熱される実施態様(B)に記載の方法。
(10)さらに、前記拡散通路に沿って前記過酸化水素を拡散する工程の前に当該拡散通路を周囲温度よりも低く冷却する工程を含む実施態様(B)に記載の方法。
(12)前記拡散通路を加熱する工程が、前記過酸化水素水溶液が実質的に完全に気化した後に行なわれる実施態様(B)に記載の方法。
(13)さらに、前記チャンバーの内側において前記過酸化水素蒸気の一部分を液化する工程、および、これに続いて、当該チャンバーの中において液化した過酸化水素を再気化する工程を含む実施態様(B)に記載の方法。
(14)前記過酸化水素蒸気を液化する工程の間に、前記チャンバーが排気されている実施態様(B)に記載の方法。
(15)さらに、前記過酸化水素水溶液の気化中に、当該過酸化水素水溶液から水を選択的に吸引して除去することを助長する速度に前記チャンバー内の圧力を低下する速度を調整する処理を含む実施態様(B)に記載の方法。

Claims (13)
- 滅菌システムにおいて、
滅菌チャンバーと、
前記滅菌チャンバーに接続している真空ポンプと、
過酸化水素水溶液気化装置と、
前記気化装置とチャンバーとの間における拡散通路と、を備えており、
当該拡散通路が、前記拡散通路の温度を調整するための温度調整装置を有することにより、前記気化装置で気化した過酸化水素を前記拡散通路において液化させ、前記拡散通路で液化した過酸化水素を気化させて前記滅菌チャンバーへ送る滅菌システム。 - 請求項1に記載の滅菌システムにおいて、
前記温度調整装置が、冷却器を含む滅菌システム。 - 請求項1または2に記載の滅菌システムにおいて、
前記温度調整装置が前記拡散通路を加熱するようにプログラムされている制御システムをさらに備える滅菌システム。 - 請求項1ないし3のいずれか1項に記載の滅菌システムにおいて、
前記拡散通路が、少なくとも10センチメートルの長さである滅菌システム。 - 物品を滅菌する方法において、
前記物品を滅菌チャンバーの中に入れる工程と、
前記チャンバーの中の圧力を低下させる工程と、
過酸化水素水溶液を気化装置の中において気化させて過酸化水素蒸気を形成する工程と、
前記過酸化水素蒸気を前記気化装置から、前記気化装置および前記チャンバーの間に位置する拡散通路に沿って前記チャンバーの中に拡散させる工程と、
前記過酸化水素蒸気の一部を前記拡散通路で液化させる工程と、
前記拡散通路を加熱して、当該拡散通路において液化した過酸化水素を気化させる工程と、を含む方法。 - 請求項5に記載の方法において、
前記拡散通路が、50℃を超える温度に加熱される方法。 - 請求項5または6に記載の方法において、
前記拡散通路が、前記液化した過酸化水素を気化させるために十分な温度に加熱される方法。 - 請求項5ないし7のいずれか1項に記載の方法において、
前記拡散通路に沿って前記過酸化水素を拡散させる工程の前に、当該拡散通路を周囲温度よりも低く冷却する工程をさらに含む方法。 - 請求項5ないし8のいずれか1項に記載の方法において、
前記拡散通路を加熱する工程が、前記過酸化水素水溶液の50%が気化した後に行われる方法。 - 請求項5ないし9のいずれか1項に記載の方法において、
前記拡散通路を加熱する工程が、前記過酸化水素水溶液が実質的に完全に気化した後に行われる方法。 - 請求項5ないし10のいずれか1項に記載の方法において、
前記チャンバーの内側において前記過酸化水素蒸気の一部を液化させる工程、および、これに続いて、前記チャンバーの中において液化した過酸化水素を再気化させる工程をさらに含む方法。 - 請求項11に記載の方法において、
前記過酸化水素水蒸気を液化させる工程の間に、前記チャンバーが排気されている方法。 - 請求項11または12に記載の方法において、
前記過酸化水素水溶液を気化させる工程の間に、前記過酸化水素水溶液から水を選択的に除去することを助長する速度に、前記チャンバー内の圧力を低下させる速度を調整する処理をさらに含む方法。
