Description
この構造によると、ティルティングソースは突起で作られて、この時、突起は風車構造に形成される。また、液晶は風車構造の突起に付いて風車形態に配向される。
さらに、本発明の他の目的は、高速応答が可能で動画及びTV用の高性能製品に適用が可能な液晶表示装置を提供することにある。
前記画素電極と液晶層との間、及び対向電極と液晶層との間に各々に介在される垂直配向膜と、前記上下部基板の外側面各々に偏光軸が相互交差するように付着された偏光板を有する液晶表示装置において、前記カラーレジン層は各単位画素の内部に規則的に形成された所定個数の溝(Valley)を具備し、前記画素電極は前記カラーレジン層の溝を中心にその周りに配置されるように形成された“+”形状のスリットを具備することにより、液晶が前記溝を中心とした風車構造に配列されることを特徴とする。
又、前記溝は、各単位画素の内部に2〜40個形成されることを特徴とする。
又、前記画素電極のスリット形成部位に設置される不透明パターンをさらに有することを特徴とする。
又、前記上下部基板と偏光板との間に設置される位相補償板をさらに有することを特徴とする。
又、前記位相補償板は、一軸または二軸位相補償板であり、前記一軸位相補償板は位相遅延値が40〜800nmの範囲を含み、前記二軸位相補償板は位相遅延値が150〜250nmの範囲を含むことを特徴とする。
又、前記液晶の誘電率異方性が−2〜−10であることを特徴とする。
又、前記液晶層の厚さは2〜6μmであり、液晶層の厚さと液晶の屈折率異方性の積が200〜500nmであることを特徴とする。
また、このような溝は、別途のマスク工程を利用することなしに上板製作時のカラーレジン層パターニング時に共に形成することができるので工程単純化を確保することができるという効果がある。

Claims (8)
- 所定距離を置いて対向配置された下部基板と上部基板と、
前記上下部基板の間に挟持されて誘電率異方性が負である液晶で構成された液晶層と、
前記上部基板の内側面上に形成されたカラーレジン層と、
前記カラーレジン層上に形成された対向電極と、
前記下部基板の内側面上に形成された画素電極と、
前記画素電極と液晶層との間、及び対向電極と液晶層との間に各々に介在される垂直配向膜と、
前記上下部基板の外側面各々に偏光軸が相互交差するように付着された偏光板を有する液晶表示装置において、
前記カラーレジン層は各単位画素の内部に規則的に形成された所定個数の溝(Valley)を具備し、
前記画素電極は前記カラーレジン層の溝を中心にその周りに配置されるように形成された“+”形状のスリットを具備することにより、
液晶が前記溝を中心とした風車構造に配列されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記溝は、深さが2μm以下であり、断面は短側面の長さが5μm以下である四角形の形状であり、壁面が10〜90゜の角度を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記溝は、各単位画素の内部に2〜40個形成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記画素電極のスリット形成部位に設置される不透明パターンをさらに有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記上下部基板と偏光板との間に設置される位相補償板をさらに有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記位相補償板は、一軸または二軸位相補償板であり、前記一軸位相補償板は位相遅延値が40〜800nmの範囲を含み、前記二軸位相補償板は位相遅延値が150〜250nmの範囲を含むことを特徴とする請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶の誘電率異方性が−2〜−10であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶層の厚さは2〜6μmであり、液晶層の厚さと液晶の屈折率異方性の積が200〜500nmであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
