Description
本出願は2001年10月9日に出願された、“無線ネットワークを通じて位置情報を付与した画像を送信する方法とシステム”という題名の、出願番号60/327900のアメリカ合衆国の仮特許出願の利益を主張する。その出願はここに引用することで、本明細書に組み込まれる。
1.発明の分野
本発明は一般的に、位置決定要素と組合わせて用いられる無線通信デバイスに接続して用いる画像感知デバイスの使用に関する。
双方向無線、携帯用テレビ、パーソナルコミュニケーションシステム(PCS:Personal Communication System)、個人用情報端末装置(PDAs:Personal Digital Assistants)、携帯電話(移動電話としても知られている)、ブルートゥース、衛星ラジオ受信機、およびNAVSTARとしても知られている全地球的測位システム(GPS:Global Positioning Systems)といった衛星測位システム(SPS:Satellite Positioning Systems)等、無線デバイスの世界的な普及が急速に進んでいる。
無線デバイスのおおむねの位置を決定する(すなわち位置を特定する)システムは、ユーザーの位置データに加えて画像を利用して、無線ネットワークのセルの範囲内にある無線デバイスの位置を特定する。そのシステムは、画像取り込みデバイスと位置データを得る手段を備える無線デバイスを備える。位置データは無線デバイスで得られてもよいし、無線ネットワーク内で得られてもよい。サービスセンターはE911センターとして機能し、照合画像のデータベースを備えている。そのデータベースを備えていることによって、オペレーターは、無線デバイスから受信した画像と、データベースから検索した照合画像を比較し、無線デバイスのセル内の位置を特定することを可能とする。さらに、そのシステムは、画像と位置データの受取に応じて情報を提供するコールセンターを備えていてもよい。
無線デバイスの位置の特定を手助けできる撮像装置を備えており、無線ネットワーク内に組込まれている無線デバイスを利用するシステムが開示されている。無線デバイスは、撮像装置を使用して近くの照合地点の画像を取り込み、その画像をサービスセンターへ送信する。無線デバイスは衛星測位システム(SPS;Satellite Positioning System)や他の位置特定方法から受信した位置情報をその画像に付加してもよい。その画像および位置情報はインターネットを通じて送信することもできるし、あるいは無線デバイスの位置を特定する助けとなる照合画像や地図/地形情報を記憶しているデータベースへアクセス可能なサービスセンターへ送信することもできる。そのシステムは、サービスセンターが画像の受信に応じて無線デバイスに情報を送ることが可能な双方向システムであってもよい。
本発明は以下の図面を参照することでより理解しやすくなるであろう。本発明の原理を図示するために、図面の構成要素は必ずしも縮尺が一致しておらず、代わりに強調が用いられている。そのうえ、図面中では、参照符号が他の図面を通して対応する構成要素を示す。
Claims (24)
- サーバーと、
ディスプレイと、
サーバー上に存在し、複数の照合デジタル画像を記憶しているデータベースと、
デジタル画像に関連付けられた複数のセルサイトの特性を処理して、アクセスする複数の照合デジタル画像を決定する手段と、
無線デバイスからのデジタル画像と、そのデジタル画像とおおよそ一致する少なくとも1つの照合デジタル画像を、ディスプレイに表示する手段と、
その1つの照合デジタル画像から位置を識別する手段
を備えることを特徴とする無線デバイスの位置特定装置。 - デジタル画像に衛星測位システムデータが関連付けられていることを特徴とする請求項1の装置。
- デジタル画像に関連付けられた機能識別子をサーバーによって受信する手段と、
デジタル画像の受信に応じて無線デバイスに向けて複数のデータを送信する手段と、
をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項1又は2の装置。 - 前記機能識別子はE911を示す信号であることを特徴とする請求項3の装置。
- 前記機能識別子は方位の要求であることを特徴とする請求項3の装置。
- ディスプレイ、入力ユニットおよび撮像装置と通信可能なコントローラを備える無線デバイスと、
入力ユニットに応じて無線デバイスによって計測された複数のセルサイト特性にコントローラによって関連付けられたデジタル画像をサーバーに送信する無線デバイスの送信機と、
無線デバイスからのデジタル画像及びセルサイト特性の受信に応じてアクセスされる複数の照合デジタル画像を備えるサーバー上に存在するデータベースと、
複数の照合デジタル画像から1つを選択することによって、無線デバイスの位置を識別する手段
を備えることを特徴とする無線システム。 - 位置データを得る無線デバイスに内蔵されている衛星測位システム受信機をさらに備え、その位置データはコントローラによってデジタル画像に関連付けられることを特徴とする請求項6のシステム。
- 無線デバイスの位置の識別に応じて無線デバイスに向けてサーバーによって送信される応答メッセージを受信する受信機をさらに備え、その応答メッセージはコントローラによってディスプレイ上に表示されることを特徴とする請求項6又は7のシステム。
- 前記応答メッセージは、応答デジタル画像であることを特徴とする請求項6から8のいずれか一項のシステム。
- サーバーで無線デバイスからのデジタル画像を受信する工程と、
サーバーと通信可能なデータベースにアクセスする工程と、
デジタル画像に関連付けられた複数のセルサイト特性を処理する工程と、
前記セルサイト特性の処理に応じて複数の照合デジタル画像を識別する工程と、
デジタル画像とともに複数の照合デジタル画像の少なくとも1つを表示する工程と、
デジタル画像と複数の照合デジタル画像の少なくとも1つとの比較から無線デバイスの位置を識別する工程
を備えることを特徴とする無線デバイスの位置を特定する方法。 - サーバーで無線デバイスからのデジタル画像を受信する工程と、
サーバーと通信可能なデータベースにアクセスする工程と、
デジタル画像に関連付けられた衛星測位システムデータを受信する工程と、
衛星測位システムデータの受信に応じて複数の照合デジタル画像を識別する工程と、
デジタル画像とともに複数の照合デジタル画像の少なくとも1つを表示する工程と、
デジタル画像と複数の照合デジタル画像の少なくとも1つとの比較から無線デバイスの位置を識別する工程
を備えることを特徴とする無線デバイスの位置を特定する方法。 - デジタル画像に関連付けられた機能識別子をサーバーで受信する工程と、
デジタル画像の受信に応じて無線デバイスに向けて複数のデータを送信する工程
をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項10又は11の方法。 - 前記機能識別子はE911を示す信号であることを特徴とする請求項12の方法。
- 前記機能識別子は方位の要求であることを特徴とする請求項12の方法。
