Description

本発明は、感熱画像記録部材のための保護オーバーコート層、およびこの保護オーバーコート層を備える熱画像記録部材に関する。
多数の熱画像化システム(例えば、インクジェット印刷、およびドナーシートから受容材料への、色素のような着色剤の熱移動を利用する熱画像化システム)が公知である。熱移動のための広範な種々の特定の機構が、現在までに使用されているが、「A New Thermal Transfer Ink Sheet for Continuous−Tone Full Color Printer」(M.Kutamiら、J.Imaging Science.,1990,16,70−74)に記載されるように、全てが、2つの広いカテゴリーに入る。これらの第一のものにおいて、色素は、「色素拡散熱移動」(またはD2T2;このプロセスはまた、時々、「色素昇華移動」と称される)と通常称されるプロセスにおいて、ドナーシート上のポリマーバインダーから受容シート上の第二のポリマー層へと熱拡散する。この型において、色素のみが移動され、ドナーシート上の色素が分散されているバインダーは移動されない。第二のカテゴリーは、通常、「熱物質移動」と称され、そしてこの型において、色素とキャリアビヒクルとの両方が一緒に、ドナーシートから受容シートへと移動される。

本発明の1つの局面によれば、約40重量%〜約85重量%のポリ(メチルメタクリレート)、約10重量%〜約50重量%のエチルメタクリレートコポリマー、および約1重量%のメルトフロー改質剤を含有する、保護的な熱移動可能なオーバーコート材料が提供される。
本発明の熱オーバーコート部材は、本発明によるオーバーコート層を備える基板を備え、このオーバーコート層は、約40重量%〜約85重量%のポリ(メチルメタクリレート)、約10重量%〜約50重量%のエチルメタクリレートコポリマー、および約1重量%のメルトフロー改質剤を含有する。このオーバーコート層はまた、添加剤(例えば、界面活性剤、可塑剤、紫外光吸収剤、光安定剤など)を含有し得る。
表Iに示されるような、本発明による3種のオーバーコート層処方物を調製し、そして各々を、別個のポリ(エチレンテレフタレート)基板材料(約4.5ミクロンの厚さを有する)上に、約2.5ミクロンのオーバーコート層の厚さでコーティングした。
表IIに示されるような、本発明によるオーバーコート層処方物を調製した。固体を、75%のMEKおよび25%のトルエンの混合物に溶解し、そして4.5ミクロンの厚さを有するポリエチレンテレフタレート基板上に、約1.6ミクロンのオーバーコート層厚さでコーティングした。
表IIIに示されるような、本発明による2つのオーバーコート層処方物を調製し、そして実施例IIに記載されるような、別個の基板上に調製し、そしてコーティングした。
Claims (13)
- 熱画像記録部材であって、熱転写により形成される、画像を保有する層、および該画像を保有する層の上に重なる保護オーバーコート層を備える基板を備え、該保護オーバーコート層は、40重量%〜85重量%の、100℃を超えるTgを有するポリ(メチルメタクリレート)、10重量%〜50重量%の、52℃〜65℃のTgを有するポリ(エチルメタクリレート)、および1重量%のメルトフロー改質剤を含有し、該メルトフロー改質剤が、該ポリ(メチルメタクリレート)および該ポリ(エチルメタクリレート)のメルトフローインデックスを低下させるものである、熱画像記録部材。
- 前記基板が、2つのポリエチレンの2ミル厚の層の間に配置された、延伸ポリプロピレンの6ミル厚の層を備える、請求項1に記載の画像記録部材。
- 前記ポリ(メチルメタクリレート)が、104℃のTgを有する、請求項1に記載の画像記録部材。
- 前記ポリ(エチルメタクリレート)が、65℃のTgを有する、請求項3に記載の画像記録部材。
- 前記メルトフロー改質剤が、エチルアクリレート−2−エチルヘキシルアクリレートコポリマーである、請求項4に記載の画像記録部材。
