Description
本出願は2001年1月11日出願の米国特許出願第60/261,056号を優先権主張するものである。
衝突時に生じる力で乗客が傷害するのを軽減する他の方法として、衝突力の一部を吸収する「衝突帯(クラッシュゾーン)」を自動車の前部および後部に備える試みもある。さらに、自動車フレーム、エンジンマウントおよびめの他の構造部材の設計を変えて、制御下に構造収縮をさせて力を吸収する方法もある。
下記文献には自動車の先端に取付けられるエアバッグが開示されている。
下記文献には物体と接触した時に膨張するエアバッグを備えた前方および後方のバンパが開示されている。
従って、衝突時の重症性を低下させることができるエアバッグが必要とされている。
本発明はさらに、衝突した自動車の乗客に伝わるエネルギーを減らすことができるとうい利点もある。
本発明の上記以外の特徴および利点は添付図面を参照した本発明の好ましい実施例の説明からより良く理解できよう。
Claims (16)
- マルチチャンバー式のバンパエアバッグ(10)と、所定の最大膨張圧力まで膨張させるための膨張装置(27)を有する、自動車に取付けられるマルチチャンバー式のバンパエアバッグ装置であって、
上記バンパエアバッグ(10)は第1織布部材(24)と第2織布部材(26)とで構成され、第1織布部材(24)の周辺部と第2織布部材(26)周辺部は破断しない縫目(30)で結合されて第1織布部材と第2織布部材との間には一つのチャンバーが区画され、このチャンバーは上記の破断しない縫目(30)の放射方向内側に位置した第1織布部材(24)と第2織布部材(26)とを結合する、上記の所定の最大膨張圧力では破断せず且つこの所定の最大圧力を超えた圧力で破断する破断し易い縫目(14)によってメインチャンバー(20)と第2チャンバー(21、22、23)とに分割され、第1織布部材(24)はメインチャンバー(20)を膨張装置(27)と流体連通させる弁組立体(28)を有することを特徴とするバンパエアバッグ装置。 - メインチャンバー(20)の大きさが第2チャンバー(21、22、23)よりも大きい請求項1に記載のバンパエアバッグ装置。
- 第2チャンバー(21、22、23)を2つのチャンバー(21;22、23)に分割する、放射方向で第1の破断し易い縫目(14)と上記の破断しない縫目(30)との間に位置した、第1織布部材と第2織布部材とを結合する第2の破断し易い縫目(16)をさらに有する請求項2に記載のバンパエアバッグ装置。
- 第2チャンバー(21、22、23)をエアバッグの周りの周囲大気と流体連通させるための少なくとも1つの通気穴(32、33、34)が織布部材(24、26)のいずれか一方に形成されている請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載のバンパエアバッグ装置。
- 第1の破断し易い縫目(14)が破断し易い糸の連続縫目である請求項1〜4のいずれか一項に記載のバンパエアバッグ装置。
- 第2織布部材(26)の外側表面が耐穿孔性および耐磨耗性を有する請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載のバンパエアバッグ装置。
- 第1織布部材(24)の外側表面が耐穿孔性および耐磨耗性を有する請求項1〜6のいずれか一項に記載のバンパエアバッグ装置。
- 第1織布部材(24)および第2織布部材(26)が織成された無孔のポリエステル材料で作られている請求項1〜7のいずれか一項に記載のバンパエアバッグ装置。
- 第2チャンバー(21、22、23)を3つのチャンバーに分割するために、放射方向で第1の破断し易い縫目(14)と上記の破断しない縫目(30)との間に、第1織布部材(24)と第2織布部材(26)とを結合する第2の破断し易い縫目(16)と第3の破断し易い縫目(18)を有する請求項1〜8のいずれか一項に記載のバンパエアバッグ装置。
- 下記の(1)〜(5):
(1)バンパの外側表面と同一平面上にあるドア(62)を有する、バンパ内部に設けられた収容部(60)、
(2)上記ドア(62)の背面側で上記収容部(60)の内部に収容され、折畳まれた膨張していないバンパエアバッグ(10)であって、このエアバッグはメインチャンバー(20)と、このメインチャンバー(20)の回りに同心状に配置された第1の外側チャンバー(21)を有し、この第1の外側チャンバー(21)は破断し易い糸の縫目(14)によってメインチャンバー(20)から分離されているバンパエアバッグ(10)、
(3)物体との衝突を感知して信号を発生する自動車に設置された少なくとも1つのセンサ(40、42)、
(4)衝突より所定時間前に上記センサ(40、42)からの信号を処理し、点火信号を発生するアルゴリズムを内蔵したマイクロプロセッサ(50)を有する制御装置(44)、
(5)メインチャンバー(20)を所定の最大膨張圧力まで膨張させて上記ドア(62)を破裂させ、自動車の幅の少なくとも一部にわたってエアバッグ(10)を延ばし、上記点火信号に応答し、メインチャンバー(20)に機能的に結合してメインチャンバーに膨張流体を供給する膨張装置(27)、
を有する、膨張可能なマルチチャンバー式の自動車用バンパエアバッグシステムであって、
第1の外側チャンバー(21)からメインチャンバー(20)を分離している破断し易い糸の上記縫目(14)が上記所定の最大膨張圧力では破断せず且つこの所定の最大圧力を超えた圧力で破断する縫目であって、メインチャンバー(20)と物体とが衝突してメインチャンバー(20)が上記所定の最大膨張圧力を超えて過圧された時に上記の破断し易い糸の縫目(14)が破断して第1の外側チャンバー(21)が膨張する、ことを特徴とする自動車用バンパエアバッグシステム。 - メインチャンバー(20)が物体との接触によるエネルギーを吸収し、それと同心なチャンバー(21,22,23)が乗客との接触によるエネルギーを吸収する請求項10に記載のシステム。
- 上記の所定時間が1000ミリ秒以下である請求項10または11に記載のシステム。
- 膨張装置が低温のガスを出す膨張装置である請求項10〜12のいずれか一項に記載のシステム。
- 膨張装置が段階的に低温のガスを出す膨張装置である請求項10に記載のシステム。
- 同心状のチャンバー(21,22,23)が収縮するときの収縮速度を制御する通気穴(32、33、34)をさらに有する請求項10に記載のシステム。
- (a)〜(g)の段階を含むマルチチャンバー式のバンパエアバッグの製造方法:
(a) 第1周辺部を有する第1織布部材(24)を作り、
(b) 第2周辺部を有する第2織布部材(26)を作り、
(c) 第1織布部材(24)と第2織布部材(26)を上記の第1周辺部と第2周辺部とが互いに整合するように位置決めし、
(d) 上記の最大膨張圧力では破断せず且つこの最大圧力を超えた圧力で破断する第1の破断し易い縫目(14)によって第1織布部材(24)と第2織布部材(26)とを互いに結合して、上記の各周辺部の内側にメインチャンバー(20)を区画し、
(e) 第1の破断し易い縫目(14)より放射方向外側に第2の破断し易い縫目(16)を縫い付けて第1織布部材(24)と第2織布部材(26)とを互いに結合して、上記メインチャンバー(20)と同心な第2チャンバー(22)を区画し、
(f) 上記の第1周辺部および第2周辺部に隣接させて破断しない縫目(30)を縫い付けて、第1織布部材(24)と第2織布部材(26)とを互いに結合して、上記第2チャンバー(22)と同心な第3チャンバー(23)を区画し、
(g) 第1織布部材(24)に弁組立体(28)を取り付ける。
