の範囲を逸脱すると熱的に安定で透過特性の良いガラスを得ることができない。これ以外の成分はガラスを熱的に安定にし、粘性を下げて加工しやすくするために添加する。

の範囲にあることが必要となる。上記にあげた以外の組成例では、ファイバに加工するのに十分な熱安定性を有していないことが分かる。
本発明の参考例1に係る光ファイバの断面を図4に示す。図4に示すように、零材料分散波長が2.08μmのテルライトガラスからなる光ファイバ10は、多数の円形状の空孔11を有する。これらの空孔11の中は、空気で満たされている。これらの空孔11における光の屈折率は、真空における光の屈折率である1にほぼ等しい。
本発明の参考例2による光ファイバ断面を図8A−図8Bに示す。図8A−図8Bにおいて、21は空孔であり、中は空気で満たされており屈折率は1にほぼ等しい。22は表1におけるNo.18の組成のテルライトガラスである。本参考例のファイバ20では中心を除く断面全域に多数の空孔21を三角格子状に配置した。さらに、零材料分散波長が2.1μmでテルライトガラス22に対して比屈折率差として1.1%高い屈折率を有するテルライトガラスをファイバ中心部23の位置に埋め込んだファイバ、およびテルライトガラス22に対して比屈折率差として0.5%低い屈折率を有するテルライトガラスをファイバ中心部23の位置に埋め込むことで、光が伝搬するコアとなる領域を設けたファイバの2種類を作製した。それぞれのファイバ外径は105μm、空孔径dは1.6μm、空孔間隔Λは2.2μm、埋め込んだ中心部23のテルライトガラス径bは1.5μm、光が伝搬するコア径aは2.8μmである。
本発明の参考例3による光ファイバ断面を図10Aに示す。図10Aにおいて、21は空孔であり、中は空気で満たされており屈折率は1にほぼ等しい。22は表1におけるNo.15の組成のテルライトガラスである。本参考例のファイバでは中心を除く断面全域に多数の空孔21を三角格子状に配置し、光が伝搬するコアとなる領域24を設けた。ファイバ外径Dは105μmである。また、図10Bに示すように、空孔径dは1.2μm、空孔間隔Λは1.5μmとし、光が伝搬するコア径aは1.8μmである。
本発明の参考例4による光ファイバ断面を図11Aに示す。図11Aにおいて、44はジャケットである。41は空孔であり、中は空気で満たされており屈折率は1にほぼ等しい。45は零材料分散波長が2.18μmのテルライトガラスである。本参考例のファイバでは内部に孔41を4個配置し、光が伝搬するコアとなる領域46を設けた。ファイバ外径Dは120μmであり、空孔の内径は、40μmである。また、コア領域の大きさとして、図11Bに示すコア領域に内接する正四角形の一辺aを2.0μmとした。
本発明の参考例5に係る光ファイバ断面を図12に示す。図12に示すように、零材料分散波長が2.1μmのテルライトガラスからなる光ファイバ30は、上記参考例1と同様に、三角格子状配列、即ち周期的に配列される多数の円形状の空孔31を有する。ただし、光ファイバ30の中心において、空孔31の配列は周期性を欠いている。また、空孔31にはテルライトガラス33よりも屈折率がΔnだけ低いガラス材料が埋め込まれる。光ファイバ30の中心部から離れた空孔31は周期的に配列されるので、光を全反射するクラッド33となり、光ファイバ30の中心部で周期性を欠いて配列される空孔31で囲まれる領域は、光が導波するコア32となる。この領域は、光の波長をλ、円周率をπとしたときにコア領域をπλ2の0.1から5倍の大きさである。
本発明の参考例6に係る光ファイバを図13に示す。図13に示すように、テルライトガラスからなる光ファイバ40は、上記参考例5に説明した光ファイバ30の有する空孔31の配列状態を変形したものである。光ファイバ40における空孔41の配列は、光ファイバ40の直径方向の断面において、規則的(周期的)に隣接するように配置される多数の四角形の頂点からなる四角格子状の配列である。ただし、光ファイバ40の中心において、空孔41の配列は周期性を欠いている。光ファイバ40の中心部から離れた空孔41は周期的に配列されるので、光を全反射するクラッド43となり、光ファイバ40の中心部で周期性を欠いて配列される空孔41で囲まれる領域は、光が導波するコア42となる。この領域は光の波長をλ、円周率をπとしたときにコア領域をπλ2の0.1から5倍の大きさである。なお、空孔41には、テルライトガラスよりも屈折率の低い材料が充填されている。
本発明の参考例7に係る光ファイバを図14に示す。図14に示すように、テルライトガラスからなる光ファイバ50は、上記参考例6に説明した光ファイバ40の有する空孔41の配列状態を変形したものである。光ファイバ50における空孔51は、光ファイバ50の直径方向の断面において、規則的(周期的)に隣接するように配置される六角形(ハニカム)の各頂点に配列される。ただし、光ファイバ50の中心において、空孔51の配列は周期性を欠いている。光ファイバ50の中心から離れた空孔51は周期的に配列されるので、光を全反射するクラッド53となり、光ファイバ50の中心で周期性を欠いて配列される空孔51で囲まれる領域は、光が導波するコア52となる。この領域は光の波長をλ、円周率をπとしたときにコア領域をπλ2の0.1から5倍の大きさである。なお、空孔51には、テルライトガラスよりも屈折率の低い材料が充填されている。
本発明の参考例8に係る光ファイバを図15に示す。図15に示すように、テルライトガラスからなる光ファイバ60は、上記参考例5に説明した光ファイバ30に配列される空孔31の形状を変形したものである。光ファイバ60では、その光ファイバ60の長手方向に直交する断面において、空孔61の形状が六角形である。光ファイバ60では、多数の空孔61が三角格子状配列、即ち周期的に配列される。ただし、光ファイバ60の中心において、空孔71の配列が周期性を欠いている。光ファイバ60の中心から離れた空孔61は周期的に配列されるので、光を全反射するクラッド63となり、光ファイバ60の中心で周期性を欠いて配列される空孔61で囲まれる領域は、光が導波するコア62となる。この領域は光の波長をλ、円周率をπとしたときにコア領域をπλ2の0.1から5倍の大きさである。なお、空孔61には、テルライトガラスよりも屈折率の低い材料が充填されている。
次に、本発明の参考例9に係る光ファイバを図16から図19に基づいて説明する。なお、このときテルライトガラスは2μm以上に零分散波長を有するガラスを用いる。また、特に上記の表1に記載のガラス組成比のうちNo.1とNo.6以外の組成比を用いることが効果的であり、さらに希土類を添加したものにも有効である。図16は、光ファイバの概略構造を表わす径方向の断面図、図17は、図16の光ファイバの等価屈折率分布を示すグラフ、図18は、図16の光ファイバの分散特性を表わすグラフ、図19は、図16の光ファイバの屈折率分布を表わすグラフである。なお、本発明において、等価屈折率とは、光に実質的に作用する屈折率のことである。
本発明の参考例10として、例えば、図22、図23に示すように、第1のクラッド部102の空孔102aが、第1のクラッド部102の半径方向にわたって複数形成されている(二重に形成されている)光ファイバ140、150とすることも可能である。
本発明の参考例11として、図24に示すように、例えば、第1のクラッド部102の空孔102aの内部に、第2のクラッド部103を構成するテルライトガラスの屈折率よりもΔnだけ低い屈折率を有するガラス材料を埋め込んで充填することにより、第1のクラッド部102の等価屈折率と第2のクラッド部103の屈折率とを同程度にすることも可能である。なお、このときテルライトガラスは2μm以上に零分散波長を有するガラスを用いる。また、特に上記の表1に記載のガラス組成比のうちNo.1とNo.6以外の組成比を用いることが効果的であり、さらに希土類を添加したものにも有効である。
本発明の参考例12として、例えば、図25に示すように、コア部111の屈折率が、第1のクラッド部102の材料の屈折率よりも高い光ファイバ170とする、すなわち、空孔102aを形成されていない軸中心部分を、Δnだけ屈折率の高いコア部(センタコア)111として、より強い光の閉じ込め効果を実施できるようにすることも可能である。なお、このときテルライトガラスは2μm以上の零分散波長を有するガラスを用いる。また、特に表1に記載のガラス組成比のうちNo.1とNo.6以外の組成比を用いることが効果的であり、さらに希土類を添加したものにも有効である。
本発明の参考例13の方法は、テルライトガラスからなる円柱状のガラスブロックを作製し、ガラスブロックの長手方向にドリルで穴を開けて、空孔部を有するガラス母材を作製する。このガラス母材を、円筒状のテルライトガラスからなるジャケット管に挿入して線引きする方法である。
本発明の参考例14では、ガラス融液を注入成型する際に使用するモールドにおいて、底面から円柱棒状のピンを複数内側に整列させる。注入成型した後、すばやく予加熱しておいたピンを引き抜くことにより、空孔部を形成する。
図49に、本発明の参考例15にかかる光ファイバを示す。ジャケット管2304に挿入された前述の表1におけるNo.15の組成のテルライトガラス2301には、4つの空孔2303a〜2303d(総括番号を2303と表わす)が形成され、それら空孔2303は空気で満たされており、その屈折率は1にほぼ等しい。4つの空孔2303に囲まれた部分は、光が伝搬するコアとなる領域2302である。領域2302の内部には、テルライトガラスの組成を変化させて、零材料分散波長が2.1μmでテルライトガラス2301に対して比屈折率差が1.1%高い屈折率のテルライトガラス2305を埋め込んでいる。本参考例15では、キャピラリー法(capillary method:毛管法)により光ファイバを作製した。テルライトガラス2301の外径は110μm、空孔2303の内径が35μmであり、コア径は3.0μmである。光出力がピークの1/e2となる断面積Aeffは2.6μm2であり、そのγ値は940W−1km−1である。
図52に、本発明の参考例16にかかる光ファイバを示す。ジャケット管2404に挿入された前述の表1におけるNo.18の組成のテルライトガラス2401には、4つの空孔2403a〜2403d(総括番号を2403と表わす)が形成され、それら空孔2403は空気で満たされており、その屈折率は1にほぼ等しい。4つの空孔2403に囲まれた部分は、光が伝搬するコアとなる領域2402である。領域2402の内部には、テルライトガラスの組成を変化させて、零材料分散波長が2.05μmでテルライトガラス2401に対して比屈折率差が2.2%低い屈折率のテルライトガラス2405を埋め込んでいる。本参考例16では、キャピラリー法により光ファイバを作製した。テルライトガラス2401の外径は90μm、空孔2403の内径が45μmであり、コア径は2.7μmである。光出力がピークの1/e2となる断面積Aeffは2.5μm2であり、そのγ値は930W−1km−1である。
図55に、本発明の参考例17にかかる光ファイバを示す。ジャケット管2504に挿入された前述の表1におけるNo.17の組成のテルライトガラス2501には、4つの空孔2503a〜2503d(総括番号を2503と表わす)が形成され、それら空孔2503は空気で満たされており、その屈折率は1にほぼ等しい。4つの空孔2503に囲まれた部分は、光が伝搬するコアとなる領域2502である。この領域2502の内部には、中心空孔2505が設けられている。本参考例17では、キャピラリー法により光ファイバを作製した。テルライトガラス2501の外径は105μm、空孔2503の内径が40μmであり、コア径は3.1μmである。光出力がピークの1/e2となる断面積Aeffは2.8μm2であり、そのγ値は810W−1km−1である。
図66に、本発明の参考例18にかかる光ファイバを示す。ジャケット管3004に挿入された前述の表1におけるNo.10の組成のテルライトガラス3001には、3つの空孔3003a〜3003c(総括番号を3003と表わす)が形成され、それら空孔3003は空気で満たされており、その屈折率は1にほぼ等しい。3つの空孔3003に囲まれた部分は、光が伝搬するコアとなる領域3002である。
図69に、本発明の参考例19にかかる光ファイバを示す。ジャケット管3104に挿入された前述の表1におけるNo.11の組成のテルライトガラス3101には、4つの空孔3103a〜3103dが形成され、それら空孔3103は空気で満たされており、その屈折率は1にほぼ等しい。4つの空孔3103に囲まれた部分は、光が伝搬するコアとなる領域3102である。

Claims (5)
- 2μm以上の零材料分散波長を持つテルライトガラスであり、TeO2−Bi2O3−LO−M2O−N2O3−Q2O5からなる組成(LはZn、Ba、Mgのうち少なくとも1種類以上、MはLi、Na、K、Rb、Csのうち少なくとも一種類以上のアルカリ元素、NはB、La、Ga、Al、Yのうち少なくとも一種類以上、QはP、Nbのうち少なくとも一種類以上)を持ち、その成分が
50<TeO2<90 (モル%)
1<Bi2O3<30 (モル%)
1<LO+M2O+N2O3+Q2O5<50 (モル%)
であるテルライトガラスを少なくともコア材料とし、
内壁の内側に、長手方向の軸に平行に連続する凸となる部分が複数形成されたモールドに、前記テルライトガラス融液を注入成型して、前記モールドを分割して注入成型したガラス材料を取り出すことにより、側面に長手方向の軸に平行な凹部が複数形成され、断面形状が外周に凹部を複数備えた多角形である多角柱状のガラス母材を作製する第1の工程と、
前記第1の工程で作製された前記ガラス母材を、テルライトガラスからなる円筒状のジャケット管に挿入し、前記ガラス母材と前記ジャケット管との隙間の空孔を維持又は拡大するように加圧線引きする第2の工程とを備えた
ことを特徴とする光ファイバの製造方法。 - 2μm以上の零材料分散波長を持つテルライトガラスであり、TeO2−Bi2O3−LO−M2O−N2O3−Q2O5からなる組成(LはZn、Ba、Mgのうち少なくとも1種類以上、MはLi、Na、K、Rb、Csのうち少なくとも一種類以上のアルカリ元素、NはB、La、Ga、Al、Yのうち少なくとも一種類以上、QはP、Nbのうち少なくとも一種類以上)を持ち、その成分が

であるテルライトガラスを少なくともコア材料とし、
内壁の内側に、長手方向の軸に平行に連続する凸となる部分が複数形成され、かつ前記内壁が長手方向の途中から底部に向かって円錐状に拡大加工されたモールドに、前記テルライトガラス融液を注入成型し、さらにテルライトガラスからなるコアガラスのガラス融液を注入することによって、クラッドガラスの体積収縮によりコアガラスを円錐状に吸い込み成型したガラス母材を作製した後、前記モールドを分割して注入成型した前記ガラス母材を取り出すことにより、長手方向の途中までは、側面に長手方向の軸に平行な凹部が複数形成され、断面形状が外周に凹部を複数備えた多角形である多角柱状であり、長手方向の途中から底部までは円錐状のガラス母材を作製する第1の工程と、
前記第1の工程で作製された前記ガラス母材を、テルライトガラスからなる円筒状のジャケット管に挿入し、前記ガラス母材と前記ジャケット管との隙間の空孔を維持又は拡大するように加圧線引きする第2の工程とを備えた

内壁の内側に、長手方向の軸に平行に連続する凸となる部分が複数形成され、かつ前記内壁が長手方向の途中から底部に向かって円錐状に拡大加工され、前記底部に穴を有するモールドに、前記テルライトガラス融液を注入成型し、さらにテルライトガラスからなるコアガラスのガラス融液を注入し、クラッドガラスの体積収縮と、前記穴から前記クラッドガラスが流れ出すことによりコアガラスを円錐状に吸い込み成型したガラス母材を作製した後、前記モールドを分割して注入成型したガラス材料を取り出すことにより、長手方向の途中までは、側面に長手方向の軸に平行な凹部が複数形成され、断面形状が外周に凹部を複数備えた多角形である多角柱状であり、長手方向の途中から底部までは円錐状のガラス母材を作製する第1の工程と、
前記第1の工程で作製された前記ガラス母材を、テルライトガラスからなる円筒状のジャケット管に挿入し、前記ガラス母材と前記ジャケット管との隙間の空孔を維持又は拡大するように加圧線引きする第2の工程とを備えた
ことを特徴とする光ファイバの製造方法。 - 前記モールドは、内壁の内側に、長手方向の軸に平行に連続する凸となる部分が4つ形成され、前記光ファイバのクラッドは、4つの空孔を有することを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれかに記載の光ファイバの製造方法。
- 前記第2の工程は、前記穴から真空脱気を行って、前記クラッドガラスが流れ出すようにしたことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の光ファイバの製造方法。
