実験研究は、室温条件で向流空気‐水系で行った。実験装置のプロセスフロー図を図10に示す。蒸気と液体の両方を、3Dプリントで作成されたフラクタル分配器を用いて供給した。両システムに導入された液体負荷量とガス負荷量は、それぞれ25〜75m3/m2・h及び0〜0.2pa^0.5の範囲であった。典型的な充填カラムの構成を図14に示す。実施例に使用した構造化充填物は、別段の記載がない限り、直径54mm、長さ200mm、Tan α=3/2、およびセグメント長さ5mmおよびギャップ5mmの波形シート(すなわち、G=S)を有していた。測定はカラムの中心で行い、試験には2つのエレメントを用いた。
図8は、Mellpak (Sulzer、2018;すなわち、従来の充填物構造体)に類似した54mm充填物構造体内のWMSを使用して観察される典型的な液体分布を示し、図9は、WMSを使用して、Tan α =3/2を有する5mmセグメント長を有する本開示の実施形態の54mm充填物構造体に対する典型的な液体分布を示す。最も濃い色は水の体積分率1を示し、白は0である。
