(a)一般式Li1+xTM1−xO2(式中、TMは、Niと、Coと、任意にMnと、任意にAl、Ti、Mo、W及びZrから選択された少なくとも1種の金属との組み合わせであり、xは0〜0.2の範囲であり、TMの遷移金属の少なくとも60モル%はNiである)による電極活物質を用意する工程であって、前記電極活物質が50〜1,000ppmの範囲の残留水分含有量を有する、工程と、

(c)工程(b)で得られた材料を湿気で処理する工程と、
(d)一連の工程(b)及び(c)を2回〜4回繰り返す工程と、

最後の一連の工程(b)及び(c)において、湿気が少なくとも部分的にオゾンで置き換えられる。

R2が、同一又は異なり、直鎖又は分岐状のC1〜C4−アルキルから選択され、
M1がTi又はZrであり、Tiが好ましい。

I.カソード活物質
I.1.カソード活物質の前駆体の調製
脱イオン水で撹拌タンク反応器を充填した。遷移金属水溶液及びアルカリ性沈殿剤を1.9の流量比で同時に供給し、総流量を8時間の滞留時間とすることにより、混合遷移金属水酸化物前駆体の沈殿を開始させた。遷移金属水溶液は、Ni、Co及びMnを6:2:2のモル比でそれぞれの硫酸塩として含有し、合計の遷移金属濃度は1.65mol/kgであった。アルカリ性沈殿剤は、25の質量比での25質量%の水酸化ナトリウム溶液及び25質量%のアンモニア溶液からなった。水酸化ナトリウム水溶液を別に供給することにより、pH値を11.9に維持した。粒子サイズが安定した後、得られた懸濁液を攪拌容器から連続的に取り出した。得られた懸濁液を濾過し、蒸留水で洗浄し、空気中120℃で乾燥させ、ふるいにかけることにより、混合遷移金属(TM)オキシヒドロキシド前駆体を得た。
C−CAM.1(比較):I.1に従って得られた混合遷移金属オキシヒドロキシド前駆体をAl2O3(平均粒径が6nm)及びLiOH一水和物と混合して、Ni+Co+Mn+Alに対して0.3モル%のAlの濃度、及び1.03のLi/(TM+Al)モル比を得た。混合物を885℃に加熱し、酸素の強制流中に8時間保持して、電極活物質C−CAM 1を得た。
II.1.電気化学試験のための電極の製造
連続ドクターナイフコーティングシステムを使用して、94質量%のカソード活物質(94質量%)、1質量%の活性炭(Imerysから購入したSuper C65 L)、2質量%のグラファイト(ImerysからのSFG6L)及び3質量%のポリビニリデンフルオリド(PVdF)バインダーを含有し、N−メチル−2−ピロリジノン(NMP)中に懸濁したスラリーをアルミホイル(厚さ=20μm)上にコーティングし、次に乾燥(Mathis、KTF−S)することにより、単層ポーチセルでの電気化学サイクル実験用の正極を調製した。典型的に、すべてのスラリーは、少なくとも30gのカソード活物質に基づいて調製し、使用されたNMPの量は、総固形分(CAM+SuperC65 L+SFG6L+PVdF)が約65%となるような量であった。セルの組み立ての前に、電極テープを120℃の熱風チャンバー内で16時間乾燥させ、最後にロールカレンダーを使用してプレスした。
カソード活物質(C−CAM.1、C−CAM.2、CAM.3、及びCAM.4)の電気化学試験をコインハーフセル(vs.アノード材料としてのLi金属、上限カットオフ電圧4.3Vvs.Li/Li+、電解質としてのEC:EMC質量%(EC=エチレンカーボネート、EMC=エチルメチルカーボネート)中の1MのLiPF6、GF/Dガラス繊維セパレータ(Whatman)、及びHohsen Corp.からのCR2032)で行って、第1サイクル目の放電容量を得た。
Elexcel Corporation Ltd.からの市販のグラファイトでコーティングしたテープを負極として使用した。上記のカソード活物質を含む正極、負極複合電極及びポリプロピレンセパレータ(Celgard 2500セパレータ)を使用して、単層ポーチセルを製造した。その後、酸素及び水のレベルが1.0ppm未満のアルゴンで充填されたグローブボックス中に、電解質(3:7質量%のEC:DEC及び2質量%のVC(DEC=ジエチルカーボネート、VC=ビニレンカーボネート)中の1MのLiPF6)ですべてのセルを充填し、Maccor 4000電池試験システムでそれらの電気化学試験を行った。
上記のカソード及びグラファイトアノードを含むように調製されたポーチセルを、0.1Cの定電流で4.25Vの電圧まで充電した(CC充電)。セルを脱気した後、これらを0.1C(3.0Vカットオフ)で放電した(サイクル1)。直後に、セルを、25℃で0.1Cの定電流で4.25V(CC)の電圧まで充電し、0.1C(3.0Vカットオフ)で放電した(サイクル2)。その後、セルを、0.5Cの定電流で4.25Vの電圧まで充電し、4.25V(CCCV)で60分間、又は電流が0.02C未満になるまで充電し、その後、セルを0.5Cの定電流で3Vの放電電圧まで放電した(4回、サイクル3〜7)。サイクル3と同じ充電条件を使用するが、1C(2回、サイクル7〜8)、2C(2回、サイクル9〜10)及び3C(2回、サイクル11〜12)の放電電圧を使用して、セルをさらにサイクルした。最後に、サイクル3で使用したのと同じ手順に従って、セルを10回充電及び放電した。
上記のようにセルを形成したら、25℃で0.2Cの定電流を4.25Vの電圧まで充電し、4.25V(CCCV)で60分間、又は電流が0.02C未満になるまで充電し、その後、セルを0.2Cの定電流で3Vの放電電圧まで放電した。この手順を1回繰り返し、放電容量を次のサイクルの基準容量とした。このサイクルでは、セルを、0.2Cの定電流で、事前に決定した基準容量の75%(75%の充電状態=75%SoC)まで充電した。直後に、セル抵抗を決定するために、2.5Cの電流パルスを30秒間適用した(セル抵抗測定)。その後、セルを0.2Cの定電流で50%及び25%SoCまで放電し、これらの各SoC値においてセル抵抗測定を繰り返した。その後、セルを0.2Cの定電流で3.0Vまでさらに放電した。
Claims (12)
- 部分的にコーティングした電極活物質の製造方法であって、前記方法が、以下の工程:
(a)一般式Li1+xTM1−xO2(式中、TMは、Niと、Coと、任意にMnと、任意にAl、Ti、Mo、W及びZrから選択された少なくとも1種の金属との組み合わせであり、xは0〜0.2の範囲であり、TMの遷移金属の少なくとも60モル%はNiである)による電極活物質を用意する工程であって、前記電極活物質が50〜1,000ppmの範囲の残留水分含有量を有する、工程と、
(b)金属アルコキシド又は金属ハロゲン化物又は金属アミド又はアルキル金属化合物で前記電極活物質を処理する工程と、
(c)工程(b)で得られた材料を湿気で処理する工程と、
(d)一連の工程(b)及び(c)を2回〜4回繰り返す工程と、
を含み、
最後の一連の工程(b)及び(c)において、湿気が少なくとも部分的にオゾンで置き換えられる、方法。 - TMが、一般式(I)、
(NiaCobMnc)1-dMd (I)
(式中、aは0.6〜0.95の範囲であり、
bは0.025〜0.2の範囲であり、
cは0.025〜0.2の範囲であり、
dは0〜0.1の範囲であり、
MはAlであり、
a+b+c=1である)
による金属の組み合わせである、請求項1に記載の方法。 - 工程(b)が、ロータリーキルン、自由落下ミキサー、連続振動ベッド又は流動床で行われる、請求項1又は2に記載の方法。
- 工程(c)におけるアルキル金属化合物が、トリメチルアルミニウム及びトリエチルアルミニウムから選択される、請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- (b)と(c)の間のそれぞれのフラッシュ工程が、30秒〜1時間の範囲の持続時間を有する、請求項1から4のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- 工程(b)〜(c)及び(d)が自由落下ミキサーで行われる、請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- 工程(b)〜(c)及び(d)が流動床で行われる、請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- TMが、Ni0.6Co0.2Mn0.2、Ni0.7Co0.2Mn0.1、Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1及びNi0.85Co0.1Mn0.05から選択される、請求項1から7のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- 最後の一連の工程(b)及び(c)において、湿気が完全にオゾンで置き換えられる、請求項1から8のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- 一般式Li1+xTM1−xO2(式中、TMは、Niと、Coと、任意にMnと、任意にAl、Ti、Mo、W及びZrから選択された少なくとも1種の金属との組み合わせであり、xは0〜0.2の範囲であり、TMの遷移金属の少なくとも60モル%はNiである)による粒子状電極活物質であって、前記粒子の外表面が、酸性アルミニウムオキシヒドロキシド、酸性アルミナ、酸性チタニア及び酸性ジルコニアから選択される酸性酸化物で不均一にコーティングされている、粒子状電極活物質。
- TMが、Ni0.6Co0.2Mn0.2、Ni0.7Co0.2Mn0.1及びNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1から選択され、前記酸化物が、酸性アルミニウムオキシヒドロキシド及び酸性アルミナから選択される、請求項10に記載の粒子状電極活物質。
- 請求項10又は11に記載の粒子状電極活物質を、リチウムイオン電池の製造に、又はリチウムイオン電池の製造のために使用する方法。
