更に言えば、今、自動運転等の技術革新が目覚ましく、事故の無い車社会の実現にも期待される過渡期にあるが、この技術は人、物の輸送関係では大きく発達すると思われるものの、全ての車が自動運転に取り代わる等は考えられない。
本来の車の大事な要素である「誰でも、何時でも、何処にでも自由に行ける」という捨てきれない思いの現実は、多くの人々の強い要望からも、将来に渡って無くなることはないと思われ、車が前述のように、運転者の右足だけによる、アクセル、ブレーキの踏み分け操作を構造とするもので有る限り、「踏み間違い」による事故は今後も無くならないものと思われる。With regard to "driving and braking," which can be said to be the essential function of conventional automobiles, the driver steps on the two pedals, which are installed on the right side of the driver's seat and operate in opposite directions, with only the right foot. しかし、この二つのペダルの踏み分け操作を、右足だけで行なう仕組みであることから、時として、運転者の意思に反した「ペダルの踏み間違い」による誤作動を生じることになり、それを元に、大事故に発展する等の深刻な状況にある。
踏み間違いによる暴走事故は何故起きるのかを考察するに、運転者が、運転席右側に配置されたアクセルと、中央部のブレーキの各ペダルを、それぞれ交互に踏み分け操作運転中に、制動のつもりで誤ってアクセルペダルを踏んでしまうことにある。
この時運転者は、間違いに気付かず、ブレーキが効かないと驚愕しパニックに陥り、これを止めようと、更にブレーキと誤認したアクセルペダルを踏み続ける事になって足を離せなくなり、暴走の末の一瞬の間に大事故を引き起こすことになる。
この忌まわしい踏み間違いと言う事象は、これまでのアクセル、ブレーキの右足のみによるペダルの踏み分け操作が続く限り、言われるような高齢者に限らず、年令、性別の差を越え、何時でも、何処でも、誰にでも起り得る永遠の課題となるものと思われる。This has the following drawbacks. このアクセルペダルは、運転者の左足のみでの専用操作とし、一方のブレーキは、右足での専用操作を担当することになり、両ペダルは、互いに距離を置いたうえに、左右独立した運転者の両足に分担操作させることにより、格段の安全性を確保することが出来、恐れた踏み間違いによる事故を完全に駆逐すると共に、安全な車社会の実現に少なからず寄与出来るものと確信する。
尚これにより、エンジン側からのスロットルワイヤー等のとり回しは、これまでの右方から左方のアクセルペダルに接続されることになる。

万が一の左足による操作ミスがあったとして考えられることは、個人差にもよるが、段差等の場所での踏み込み過多等と思われるが、そんな場合でも、これまでの習い性からの本能的なブレーキ操作で咄嗟に態勢を立て直す等、誰にでも簡単に対処出来ると思われ、これに伴う軽度の事故が多少見られるとしても、前述の様な踏み間違いによる様な大事故に発展する要素はほとんど無いことが伺える。
それ故このアクセル、ブレーキの左右分離した配置、構造と、運転者の左右の足による分離操作に広く切り替われば、踏み間違いによる悲惨な重大事故は、永遠に皆無となるものと信じる。
