Abstract
Description
(式中、R1は水素原子、低級アルキル基、低級アルコキシル基、ヒドロキシル基、スルホン酸基、又はカルボキシル基を示し、R2〜R5は各々独立に、水素原子、低級アルキル基、低級アルコキシル基、又はアセチルアミノ基を示し、Xは置換基を有してもよいベンゾイルアミノ基、置換基を有してもよいフェニルアミノ基、置換基を有してもよいフェニルアゾ基、又は置換基を有してもよいナフトトリアゾール基であり、mは1又は2、nは0又は1を示す。)
(式中、Aは、置換基を有するフェニル基又は1〜3のスルホン酸基を有するナフチル基を示し、Xは、−N=N−又は−NHCO−を示す。R1〜R4は各々独立に水素原子、低級アルキル基又は低級アルコキシル基を示し、m=1〜3、n=0または1を示す。)
(式中、A2及びB2はそれぞれ独立に、置換されていてもよいフェニル又は置換されていてもよいナフチルを表し;R3及びR4はそれぞれ独立に、水素、低級アルキル、低級アルコキシ、カルボキシル、スルホ、スルファモイル、N−アルキルスルファモイル、アミノ、アシルアミノ、ニトロ又はハロゲンを表し;mは0又は1を表す。)
(式中、Aはメチル基で置換されたフェニル基又はナフチル基を表し、Rはアミノ基、メチルアミノ基、エチルアミノ基又はフェニルアミノ基を表す。)
[偏光板の作製]
ポリビニルアルコール樹脂製フィルム(株式会社クラレ製 VF−PE(60μm厚))を30℃の水中で5分間膨潤させた後、国際公開WO2007/138980号公報において実施例1に記載の染料を30℃の染色液(水1000重量部、トリポリリン酸ナトリウム1重量部に対して、0.1〜0.3重量部)の中に5分間浸して染料による染色処理を行った。次いで、染色されたフィルムを50℃の3重量%の硼酸水溶液中で偏光特性が最大となるように4〜6倍に延伸し、延伸フィルムを得た。延伸処理の後、50℃の5重量%の硼酸水溶液中に延伸フィルムを2分間浸し、水洗後、30〜80℃の空気中で乾燥してオレンジ色系の偏光フィルムを得た。得られた偏光フィルムの厚さは20μmであった。得られた偏光フィルムは、ポリビニルアルコール(PVA)を含む水系接着剤を用いて前記偏光フィルムの両面にけん化処理したTACフィルム(60μm厚、紫外線吸収剤を含む)をラミネートした。その後、70℃で5分間乾燥して偏光層Aを得た。
(1)各波長における透過率(Ts、Tp、Tc)から、各波長における偏光板の吸収軸と直交となるようにして得られる絶対直交透過率Ky及び偏光板の吸収軸と平行となるようにして得られる絶対平行透過率Kzを求める。
(2)偏光層の表面及び内部の反射率の寄与がそれぞれ約4%あると仮定し、Ky及びKzそれぞれに対して、0.96−2との積を求める。
(3)(2)で求めたKy及びKzを吸光度に変換し、さらに、任意の濃度の値を掛ける。
(4)偏光層A〜Cに対して、上記(1)〜(3)を行い、各値の和が合成された偏光層Dの吸光度となる。(3)における任意の濃度の値を調整することで、偏光層Dの波形バランスを最適化することができる。ここでは波長範囲400〜700nmにおける二色比が最大となるように処理した。
(5)(4)で得た偏光層Dの吸光度をKy及びKzに変換する。さらに、(2)に基づき、Ky及びKzのそれぞれに対して、0.962との積を求める。
(6)(5)から偏光層Dの透過率(Ts、Tp、Tc)を求める。さらに、上述の式に基づいて、偏光層単体の透過率(Ys、Yc)及び偏光度Pyを求める。
光学設計シミュレーションソフト(シンテック社製LCD master)を用いて暗状態の正面輝度(黒表示の輝度)のシミュレーションを行った。図6は、本評価のシミュレーションを行うための構成の模式図を示す。偏光層50(フロント側)、液晶セル52、偏光層54(リア側)の順に配置し、偏光層50及び偏光層54に偏光層Dの光学特性を設定し、さらに、偏光層50及び偏光層54の偏光軸の関係は直交とした。また、液晶セル52は、液晶52が面内に水平配向する設定とした。液晶52の材料は、当該ソフトのデータベースから選択したメルク社製ZLI−4792を適用した。輝度の計算は、上記で得た直交透過率の波形、標準光として図3に示した正規化されたバックライト32aの発光強度の波形(日亜化学工業製NS2W364G−HG)を用いた。表4は、当該評価結果を示す。
標準光のLEDバックライトに日亜化学工業株式会社製NS2W364G(バックライト32a)の正規化した発光スペクトル用いた以外は、実施例1に記載の内容と同じである。当該評価結果は、表4に示す。
市販の高コントラスト染料系偏光板SHC−13U(ポラテクノ社製)の分光測定より得た光学データ用いた以外は、実施例1に記載内容と同じである。当該評価結果は、表4に示す。

本発明の実施の形態における表示装置の構成において、バックライト32の出射側から偏光層10に至るいずれかの層に波長700nm以上の光を吸収する材料を含有させたり、当該波長範囲の光を吸収する層を追加することによって、バックライト32から照射される700nm以上の発光をカットすることができる。これにより、上記の偏光層Dのような染料系偏光層を用いても、バックライト32の発光特性を問わず、表示特性に優れた液晶表示装置を得ることができる。
Claims (4)
- 染料系偏光層と、バックライトと、を備える表示装置であって、
前記染料系偏光層は、380nm以上780nm以下の可視光領域において直交透過率(Tc)が1%以上である直交透過波長範囲を有し、
前記バックライトは、380nm以上780nm以下の可視光領域における最大発光強度によって正規化された発光強度が前記直交透過波長範囲において0.03以下であることを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1に記載の表示装置であって、
前記染料系偏光層は、700nm以上750nm未満の波長範囲全体において直交透過率(Tc)が1%以上である前記直交透過波長範囲を有することを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項2に記載の表示装置であって、
前記染料系偏光層は、420nm以上780nm以下の可視光領域の波長範囲全体において単体透過率(Ts)が33%以上であり、波長400nm以上700nmの範囲で視感度補正された直交透過率(Yc)が0.01%以下であることを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置であって、液晶層を備えることを特徴とする表示装置。
