Abstract
【解決手段】表示装置は、塗布型偏光層と、光学シートと、前面パネルと、表示パネルと、を含む。塗布型偏光層は、第1偏光方向と直交する第2偏光方向の直線偏光を吸収する。光学シートは、第1偏光方向の直線偏光を反射し、第2偏光方向の直線偏光を透過する。前面パネルは、入射した光の偏光方向を他の偏光方向に変換可能である。表示パネルは、前面パネルと重ね合わされている。

Description
図1は、実施形態1の表示装置の構成の一例を示す斜視図である。表示装置100は、塗布型偏光層4と、前面パネル1と、光学シート5と、上側偏光板31と、表示パネル2と、下側偏光板32と、バックライト3とを備えている。図1において、表示パネル2の平面の一方向がX方向とされ、表示パネル2の平面においてX方向と直交する方向がY方向とされ、X−Y平面に直交する方向がZ方向とされている。Z方向にみて表示パネル2が画像を表示する表示面(又は上面)がある側を表示面側(又は上面側)といい、Z方向にみて表示面(又は上面)とは反対の背面(又は下面)がある側を背面側(又は下面側)という。
基板11と第2基板12との間に封止層13で封止された液晶層19とを備えている。第1基板11及び第2基板12は、ガラスなどの透光性基板である。
図9は、実施形態2の表示装置の断面図である。図9は、画像が表示されている表示状態の表示装置100を示す図である。図9の断面は、図1に示すII−IIの模式的な断面である。なお、実施形態1で説明した構成要素については、同じ符号を付して、説明を省略する。塗布型偏光層4の表面が柔らかく、耐久性を向上させるためには、表面を保護することが望ましい。また、塗布型偏光層4には、直接反射防止層を積層することが難しい。
図10は、実施形態3の表示装置の断面図である。図10は、画像が表示されている表示状態の表示装置100を示す図である。図10の断面は、図1に示すII−IIの模式的な断面である。なお、実施形態1及び実施形態2で説明した構成要素については、同じ符号を付して、説明を省略する。塗布型偏光層4の表面が柔らかく、耐久性を向上させるためには、表面を保護することが望ましい。また、塗布型偏光層4には、直接反射防止層を積層することが難しい。

Claims (8)
- 第1偏光方向と直交する第2偏光方向の直線偏光を吸収する塗布型偏光層と、
前記第1偏光方向の直線偏光を反射し、前記第2偏光方向の直線偏光を透過する光学シートと、
前記塗布型偏光層と前記光学シートとの間に配置され、印加電圧に応じて入射した光の偏光方向を他の偏光方向に変換可能な前面パネルと、
前記光学シートに対して、前記第2偏光方向の直線偏光を透過する偏光板を介して、前記前面パネルと重ね合わされた表示パネルと、を備える表示装置。 - 前記前面パネルは、第1基板と、第2基板と、前記第1基板と前記第2基板と間にある液晶層と、を有する請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記塗布型偏光層が前記第2基板の液晶層と反対側の面にある請求項2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記塗布型偏光層は、前記前面パネルと重ね合わされる第3基板にあり、前記塗布型偏光層が前記第2基板と、前記第3基板とに挟まれている請求項2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第3基板と、前記塗布型偏光層との間には、シクロオレフィンポリマーの基材層がある請求項4に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第3基板の前記塗布型偏光層と反対側の面に、反射防止層がある請求項4又は請求項5に記載の表示装置。
- 前記塗布型偏光層の偏光度は、0.8以上0.966未満である請求項1から請求項6のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 第1偏光方向と直交する第2偏光方向の直線偏光を吸収し、かつ液晶材料と二色性色素とを有する偏光層と、
前記第1偏光方向の直線偏光を反射し、前記第2偏光方向の直線偏光を透過する光学シートと、
前記偏光層と前記光学シートとの間に配置され、印加電圧に応じて入射した光の偏光方向を他の偏光方向に変換可能な前面パネルと、
前記光学シートに対して、前記第2偏光方向の直線偏光を透過する偏光板を介して、前記前面パネルと重ね合わされた表示パネルと、を備える表示装置。
