本実施形態では、タッチ検出機能を備えた表示装置を説明する。本実施形態の表示装置は、例えば、スマートフォン、タブレット端末、携帯電話端末、ノートブックタイプのパーソナルコンピュータ、ゲーム機器等の種々の装置に用いることができる。本実施形態にて開示する主要な構成は、液晶表示装置、有機エレクトロルミネッセンス表示装置等の自発光型の表示装置、電気泳動素子等を有する電子ペーパ型の表示装置、MEMS(Micro Electro Mechanical Systems)を応用した表示装置、或いはエレクトロクロミズムを応用した表示装置などに適用可能である。また、タッチ検出装置として、表示パネルとは独立した専用のタッチパネルを利用している装置であっても、一部の部品を表示パネルの部品と共用して用いる装置であっても本実施形態が適用可能である。
図7は、第2実施形態に係る表示装置100のタッチパネルTPを概略的に示す断面図である。第2実施形態は、絶縁材料IRが対向部OY1より外側、すなわち周辺領域A2側に位置している点で、第1実施形態と相違している。
図8は、第3実施形態に係る表示装置100のタッチパネルTPを概略的に示す平面図である。第3実施形態は、周辺領域A2に接地電位の第2導電層CLが設けられ、絶縁材料IRが設けられていない点で第1実施形態と相違している。
上記した実施形態で採用されるタッチ検出装置(センサ)の検出方式は、相互容量方式(ミューチャル方式)、自己容量方式(セルフ方式)のいずれであってもよい。
