Abstract
Description
本発明は、電気泳動ディスプレイデバイスと、そのようなディスプレイデバイスのための電気泳動流体とを対象とする。
電気泳動ディスプレイ(EPD)は、誘電溶媒内に分散される帯電される色素粒子に影響を及ぼす電気泳動現象に基づく、非発光型デバイスである。EPDは、典型的には、離間されたプレート状電極の対を備える。典型的には、視認側上にある、電極プレートのうちの少なくとも1つは、透明である。その中に分散される帯電される色素粒子を伴う、誘電溶媒を含む電気泳動流体は、2つの電極プレート間に封入される。
本発明の第1の側面は、図1に示されるように、電気泳動流体を対象とする。
2つの垂直な破線間の空間は、ピクセルを表す。したがって、各ピクセルは、対応するピクセル電極を有する。
Claims (17)
- 電気泳動流体を含む電気泳動ディスプレイであって、前記流体は、溶媒内に分散される2つのタイプの帯電される粒子を含み、
a)前記2つのタイプの帯電される粒子は、同一色であるが、反対の電荷極性を担持し、
b)ΔΕで表される、ピクセルのオン状態とオフ状態との間の色差は、少なくとも5である、電気泳動ディスプレイ。 - ΔΕは、少なくとも10である、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記溶媒は、前記帯電される粒子の色と視覚的に区別可能である色を有する、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記流体はさらに、前記帯電される粒子の色から視覚的に区別可能である色を有する、帯電されないか、またはわずかに帯電される粒子を含む、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記溶媒は、透明かつ無色である、請求項4に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記流体はさらに、電荷制御剤を含む、請求項3に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記流体はさらに、電荷制御剤を含む、請求項4に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記帯電される粒子は、白色であり、前記溶媒は、赤色、緑色、または青色に染色される、請求項3に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記帯電される粒子は、白色であり、前記帯電されないか、またはわずかに帯電される粒子は、赤色、緑色、または青色である、請求項4に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記帯電される粒子は、溶媒可溶性ポリマーでコーティングされる、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記流体は、共通電極と、複数のピクセル電極との間に挟まれ、前記共通電極は、誘電コーティングを有する、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記帯電される粒子の密度は、前記粒子が分散される溶媒の密度の少なくとも2倍高い、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記流体は、室温において、0.5〜50cpsの範囲内の低剪断粘度を有する、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記帯電される粒子のサイズは、1ミクロンよりも大きい、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記流体は、ディスプレイセル内に充填される、請求項1に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記ディスプレイセルは、カップ状マイクロセルである、請求項15に記載のディスプレイ。
- 前記ディスプレイセルは、マイクロカプセルである、請求項15に記載のディスプレイ。
