c)上記共通電極を接地状態に維持し、上記画素電極に異なる電圧を印加して複数の画素をそれらの所望の色状態に駆動するステップと
を含む。
上記ディスプレイ装置は、(i)電気泳動流体及び(ii)複数の画素を備える。
上記電気泳動流体は、第1のタイプの粒子、第2のタイプの粒子、第3のタイプの粒子、及び第4のタイプの粒子を含み、これらのすべては1つの溶媒又は溶媒の混合物に分散され、
上記第1及び第2のタイプの粒子は逆極性に帯電し、上記第3及び第4のタイプの粒子は逆極性に帯電し、

b)上記画素電極に電圧を印加せず、上記第3のタイプの粒子の電荷極性の逆極性を有する低電圧であって、すべての画素を上記第3のタイプの粒子の色状態に駆動する低電圧を上記共通電極に印加するステップと、
c)上記共通電極を接地状態に維持し、上記画素電極に異なる電圧を印加して複数の画素をそれらの所望の色状態に駆動するステップと
を含む。
上記複数の画素のそれぞれは共通電極及び画素電極の間に挟まれる。
上記方法は、
a)上記共通電極のみを変調することですべての画素を所定の色状態に駆動することと、
b)上記共通電極を接地状態に維持し、上記画素電極に異なる電圧を印加することで、すべての画素をそれらの所望の色状態に駆動することと
を含む。
上記流体は、第1のタイプの粒子、第2のタイプの粒子、及び第3のタイプの粒子を備え、これらのすべては1つの溶媒又は溶媒の混合物に分散され、
上記第1のタイプの粒子はある電荷極性を有し、上記第2及び第3のタイプの粒子は逆の電荷極性を有し、
上記バックプレーンシステムは、3レベルの電圧、すなわち、0V、高い正の電圧、及び高い負の電圧のみを有する。
上記流体は、第1のタイプの粒子、第2のタイプの粒子、第3のタイプの粒子、及び第4のタイプの粒子を備え、これらのすべては1つの溶媒又は溶媒の混合物に分散され、

Claims (12)
- (i)電気泳動流体及び(ii)複数の画素を備えたディスプレイ装置の駆動方法であって、
上記電気泳動流体は、第1のタイプの粒子、第2のタイプの粒子、及び第3のタイプの粒子を含み、これらのすべては1つの溶媒又は溶媒の混合物に分散され、
上記第1のタイプの粒子はある電荷極性を有し、上記第2及び第3のタイプの粒子は上記第1のタイプの粒子のものとは逆の電荷極性を有し、
各画素は共通電極及び画素電極の間に挟まれ、
上記方法は、
a)上記画素電極を接地状態に維持し、上記第1のタイプの粒子の電荷極性の逆極性を有する高電圧であって、すべての画素を上記第1のタイプの粒子の色状態に駆動する高電圧を上記共通電極に印加するステップと、
b)上記画素電極を接地状態に維持し、上記第3のタイプの粒子の電荷極性の逆極性を有する低電圧であって、すべての画素を上記第3のタイプの粒子の色状態に駆動する低電圧を上記共通電極に印加するステップと、
c)ステップ(b)の後において、上記共通電極を接地状態に維持し、複数の上記画素電極に互いに異なる複数の電圧を印加して複数の画素をそれらの所望の色状態に駆動するステップと
を順に実行することを含む駆動方法。 - ステップ(c)において、複数の上記画素電極を接地して、上記複数の画素を上記第3のタイプの粒子の色状態に維持する請求項1記載の駆動方法。
- ステップ(c)において、上記第2のタイプの粒子と同じ極性を有する高電圧であって、上記複数の画素を上記第2のタイプの粒子の色状態に駆動する高電圧を複数の上記画素電極に印加する請求項1記載の駆動方法。
- ステップ(c)において、上記第1のタイプの粒子と同じ極性を有する高電圧であって、上記複数の画素を上記第1のタイプの粒子の色状態に駆動する高電圧を複数の上記画素電極に印加する請求項1記載の駆動方法。
- 上記第3のタイプの粒子の電荷強度は上記第2のタイプの粒子の電荷強度よりも弱い請求項1記載の駆動方法。
- 上記第1のタイプの粒子は負に帯電し、上記第2及び第3のタイプの粒子は正に帯電している請求項1記載の駆動方法。
- (i)電気泳動流体及び(ii)複数の画素を備えたディスプレイ装置の駆動方法であって、
上記電気泳動流体は、第1のタイプの粒子、第2のタイプの粒子、第3のタイプの粒子、及び第4のタイプの粒子を含み、これらのすべては1つの溶媒又は溶媒の混合物に分散され、
上記第1のタイプの粒子は強い正の粒子であり、上記第2のタイプの粒子は強い負の粒子であり、上記第3のタイプの粒子は弱い正の粒子であり、上記第4のタイプの粒子は弱い負の粒子であり、
各画素は共通電極及び画素電極の間に挟まれ、
上記方法は、
a)上記画素電極を接地状態に維持し、すべての画素を上記第1又は第2のタイプの粒子の色状態に駆動する高電圧を上記共通電極に印加するステップと、
b)上記画素電極を接地状態に維持し、すべての画素を、上記第1のタイプの粒子の色状態から上記第4のタイプの粒子の色状態に、又は、上記第2のタイプの粒子の色状態から上記第3のタイプの粒子の色状態に駆動する低電圧を上記共通電極に印加するステップと、
c)ステップ(b)の後において、上記共通電極を接地状態に維持し、複数の上記画素電極に互いに異なる複数の電圧を印加して複数の画素をそれらの所望の色状態に駆動するステップと
を順に実行することを含む駆動方法。 - ステップ(c)において、複数の上記画素電極を接地して、上記複数の画素を上記第3又は第4のタイプの粒子の色状態に維持する請求項7記載の駆動方法。
- ステップ(c)において、上記第1のタイプの粒子と同じ極性を有する高電圧であって、上記複数の画素を上記第1のタイプの粒子の色状態に駆動する高電圧を複数の上記画素電極に印加する請求項7記載の駆動方法。
- ステップ(c)において、上記第2のタイプの粒子と同じ極性を有する高電圧であって、上記複数の画素を上記第2のタイプの粒子の色状態に駆動する高電圧を複数の上記画素電極に印加する請求項7記載の駆動方法。
- 請求項1の駆動方法のためのバックプレーンシステムであって、3レベルの電圧、すなわち、0V、高い正の電圧、及び高い負の電圧のみを有するバックプレーンシステム。
- 請求項7の駆動方法のためのバックプレーンシステムであって、4レベルの電圧、すなわち、0V、高い正の電圧、高い負の電圧、及び低い正の電圧もしくは低い負の電圧のみを有するバックプレーンシステム。
