Abstract
Description
本発明の一実施形態の目封止ハニカム構造体1は、図1及び図2に示すように、一方の端面2aから他方の端面2bまで延びる複数のセル3を区画形成する隔壁4を有するハニカム構造部5と、一方の端面2aのセル3に対して所定の配設基準に従って目封止し、他方の端面2bの残余のセル3に対して所定の配設基準に従って目封止した複数の目封止部6とを備えるものである。
本実施形態の目封止ハニカム構造体1の製造方法は、周知の目封止ハニカム構造体の製造方法と略同一の製造方法が用いられるため、例えば、成形原料の調整、乾燥、焼成等の各工程については詳細な説明を省略する。なお、本実施形態の目封止ハニカム構造体1の製造方法において、特徴的な事項は、目封止ハニカム構造体1のハニカム構造部5の形状に一致するように形成された成形用口金(図示しない)を用いるものである。これにより、成形原料を押出成形し、流通孔部8に相当する部位を有するハニカム成形体を得ることができ、これを乾燥及び焼成することで、ハニカム構造部5(ハニカム構造体)が得られる。
直径144mm、長さ152mm、隔壁厚さ0.3mm、セル密度46個/cm2、気孔率41%、平均細孔径11μmの多孔質セラミックス材料から形成されるハニカム構造体(ハニカム構造部)をベースに、入口側の端面の一部の隔壁交点部に対し、入口−入口セルの一対のセルの間を接続し、流体の流通を可能とする複数の流通孔部を設け、更に所定の配設基準にしたがって目封止部を設けた目封止ハニカム構造体を作成した(図1参照)。なお、隔壁交点部の全数に対する、流通孔部を設けた隔壁交点部(形成隔壁交点部)の比率は、本実施例において36%であった。なお、気孔率及び平均細孔径は、マイクロメリティクス製オートポア9405型、または、これと同等の装置を用いて測定した値である。
上記(1)の条件を一定とした目封止ハニカム構造体に対し、流通孔部の孔幅Wを設計因子とし、初期状態における圧力損失(以下、「圧力損失(初期)(測定条件:入口ガス温度25℃,入口ガス流量10Nm3/min、入口ガス圧力1atm、煤なし)」と称す。)、及び排気ガス処理後の煤が付着した状態の圧力損失(以下、「圧力損失(煤)(測定条件:入口ガス温度200℃,入口ガス流量2.7Nm3/min,入口ガス圧力1atm、4g/Lの煤付き)」と称す。)への影響を検討した。なお、圧力損失の測定は、周知のため詳細な説明は省略する。
Claims (8)
- 一方の端面から他方の端面まで延びる複数のセルを区画形成する隔壁を有するハニカム構造部と、
前記一方の端面の前記セルに対して所定の配設基準に従って目封止し、前記他方の端面の残余の前記セルに対して前記配設基準に従って目封止した複数の目封止部と
を備える目封止ハニカム構造体であって、
前記ハニカム構造部は、
前記一方の端面または前記他方の端面のいずれか一方における前記隔壁が交差する隔壁交点部の少なくとも一部に形成され、前記隔壁交点部に相当する位置に互いに対向する、前記一方の端面側または前記他方の端面側に開口する一対の前記セルの間を連通し、流体の流通を可能とする流通孔部を更に備え、
前記流通孔部の最小孔幅の位置で内接する第一仮想内接円の直径を、互いに対向する前記目封止部の間の最小目封止幅の位置で内接する第二仮想内接円の直径で除した値が、0.05〜0.74の範囲である目封止ハニカム構造体。 - 前記流通孔部の孔壁から前記目封止部の交点部までの間の交点部隔壁厚さの最小距離が、前記隔壁の隔壁厚さの1/2以上である請求項1に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。
- 前記流通孔部の形成された前記隔壁交点部は、
前記一方の端面または前記他方の端面における前記隔壁交点部の全数に対して、10%以上、50%以下の範囲である請求項1または2に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。 - 前記セルは、
最大で三つの前記流通孔部と接続し、それぞれ互いに対向する前記セルの間を連通する請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。 - 前記セルは、
一つの前記流通孔部と接続し、互いに対向する前記セルの間を連通する請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。 - 前記ハニカム構造部は、
コージェライト成分または炭化珪素成分を含んで形成される請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。 - 前記セルは、
正四角形状または正六角形状のいずれか一方を呈する請求項1〜6のいずれか一項に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。 - 前記ハニカム構造部は、気孔率が30%〜80%の範囲、平均細孔径が5μm〜30μmの多孔質セラミックス材料である請求項1〜7のいずれか一項に記載の目封止ハニカム構造体。
