Abstract
Description
[0008]本発明は、カルボン酸及びその塩を含む、カルボキシル基を有する化学物質を生成する方法及びシステムに関する。この方法は、電気化学電池の反応を利用して、原料となる二酸化炭素から一酸化炭素(CO)またはギ酸ナトリウムを生成することができる。アルカリ金属水酸化物との熱反応を用いて、例えば2つのギ酸ナトリウム分子を結合させてシュウ酸ナトリウムにすることができる。次いで、このシュウ酸ナトリウムを膜電気化学酸転換法によりシュウ酸に転換することができる。この方法では、アノードで生成されたプロトン(H+イオン)を用いてナトリウムイオンを置換し、このナトリウムイオンをカソードで水酸化ナトリウムとして捕捉し、リサイクルさせて分子間縮合法の単位操作で用いるアルカリ金属水酸化物として用いることができる。
ギ酸塩CO2還元反応の化学

[0045]本システムの電気化学電池の動作、カソード液への重炭酸塩の添加、及び酸性アノード液の使用について観察したところ、時間が経過するにつれてカソード液のpHが低下し、2種類の気泡、すなわち大きい気泡と、カソード液領域から出力された流れに含まれる低濃度の極微細な気泡がカソード液出力流れに見られた。大きい気泡は、重炭酸塩のプロトンすなわち水素イオン分解で生じたCO2と水のうちのCO2からなり、極微細な気泡はその副生物の水素であると思われる。上記膜を通過する水素イオンすなわちプロトンは、電極材料内と、おそらくは電極表面に非常に近いところで重炭酸塩の一部がCO2と水に分解される。これによりCO2分圧がより高い環境とすることができる。その結果、周囲動作圧力を有する溶液に溶解したCO2の動作分圧が低くてもより高い電流効果が得られると思われる。
アノード反応

カソードを備える前記電気化学電池のカソード液領域で二酸化炭素とアルカリ金属水酸化物を含むカソード液供給を受けることと、
前記アノードと前記カソードの間に十分な電位を印加して前記二酸化炭素を少なくとも1種の還元生成物に還元することと、
熱反応器により前記少なくとも1種の還元生成物と前記アルカリ金属水酸化物をアルカリ金属のシュウ酸塩に転換することと、
電気化学酸転換電解槽で前記アルカリ金属のシュウ酸塩を受け取ることと、

前記電気化学電池の前記アノード液領域に動作可能に接続されたアノード液供給入力と、
前記電気化学電池の前記カソード液領域に動作可能に接続され、カソード液供給が二酸化炭素とアルカリ金属水酸化物と含むカソード液供給入力と、
前記電気化学電池の前記カソード液領域での還元反応により生成された還元生成物と前記アルカリ金属水酸化物を受け取る熱反応器と、
前記熱反応器で生成されたアルカリ金属のシュウ酸塩生成物を受け取ってシュウ酸を生成する電気化学酸転換電解槽と、
前記電気化学電池及び前記電気化学酸転換電解槽に動作可能に接続された電位源とを備える、シュウ酸を生成するシステム。 - 前記アノード液供給は水と硫酸を含む、請求項11に記載のシステム。
- 前記アノード液供給は水とハロゲン化水素を含む、請求項11に記載のシステム。
- 前記ハロゲン化水素は臭化水素を含む、請求項13に記載のシステム。
- 前記アルカリ金属水酸化物は水酸化カリウムを含む、請求項11に記載のシステム。
- 前記少なくとも1種の還元生成物は一酸化炭素を含む、請求項11に記載のシステム。
- 前記少なくとも1種の還元生成物はギ酸カリウムを含む、請求項11に記載のシステム。
- 前記電気化学電池の前記カソード液領域で還元反応により生成された還元生成物と前記アルカリ金属水酸化物を受け取る前記熱反応器は、
一酸化炭素還元生成物と前記アルカリ金属水酸化物を受け取って、アルカリ金属ギ酸塩生成物を生成する第1の熱反応器と、
前記アルカリ金属ギ酸塩生成物とアルカリ金属水酸化物を受け取って、アルカリ金属シュウ酸塩生成物を生成する第2の熱反応器とを含む、請求項11に記載のシステム。 - 前記アルカリ金属ギ酸塩生成物はギ酸カリウムを含む、請求項18に記載のシステム。
- アルカリ金属のシュウ酸塩生成物を受け取る前記電気化学酸転換電解槽は、1つ以上の陽イオン交換膜で少なくとも部分的に仕切られた前記電気化学酸転換電解槽のイオン交換領域でアルカリ金属のシュウ酸塩生成物を受け取る電気化学酸転換電解槽を含む、請求項11に記載のシステム。
- アノードを備える電気化学電池のアノード液領域でアノード液供給を受けることと、
カソードを含む前記電気化学電池のカソード液領域で二酸化炭素と水酸化カリウムを含むカソード液供給を受けることと、
前記アノードと前記カソードの間に十分な電位を印加して前記二酸化炭素を一酸化炭素に還元することと、
第1の熱反応器により前記一酸化炭素と前記水酸化カリウムをギ酸カリウムに転換することと、
第2の熱反応器により前記ギ酸カリウムをシュウ酸カリウムに転換することと、
電気化学酸転換電解槽で前記シュウ酸カリウムを受け取ることと、
前記電気化学酸転換電解槽で前記シュウ酸カリウムをシュウ酸に転換することとを含む、シュウ酸を生成する方法。 - 前記アノード液供給は水と硫酸を含む、請求項21に記載の方法。
- 前記第2の熱反応器で水酸化カリウムの供給を受けることを更に含む、請求項21に記載の方法。
- 前記電気化学酸転換電解槽で前記シュウ酸カリウムをシュウ酸に転換することは、1つ以上の陽イオン交換膜で仕切られた前記電気化学酸転換電解槽のイオン交換領域に前記シュウ酸カリウムを通すことを含む、請求項21に記載の方法。
